which is just the name of the active ingredient in Bonine or Dramamine II! Bonine or Meclizine or Dramamine II are all antihistimines. Dramamine (not 2) is dimenhydrinate which is a little different than Meclizine. We prefer the Meclizine for lots of reasons...
1) You can usually get 250 tablets or so for about 6 dollars where as Bonine, Dramamine those kinds of pills you might get 12 for 5 dollars. When looking for Meclizine by name you will need to ask the pharmacist behind the counter for it. Sometimes they need to order it in and other times they have it!
2) It doesnt seem to make us as tired as Dramamine. We take one starting 3 days before our trip to get it into our system and then take it every morning and evening before bed. I am the sea sickness queen so I make dang sure I take it when my foot hits the floor in the morning and when my foot hits the bed every night.
If it were me...I would try out ANY medicine BEFORE you leave to make sure of the side effects with YOUR body. I used the patch awhile ago and it made me SO sick! I wish I would have just had sea sickness instead of the blurred vision, dialated pupils, headache and nausea created by all of it. Also if you dont want alot of drugs I have heard that Ginger Tablets you can buy at a local health food store work well. Also you can buy sea band wrist bands which put pressure on your wrist pressure point but they dont seem to work for me I must have a deep pressure point!
If you would like to read about the differences go to
www.rxlist.com and then type in Meclizine or Dramamine or Bonine and look at the side effects and what that has to say!
Hope this helps!
