I was wondering if any folks would like to compare their experiences with both Smugglers Run & Rise of the Resistance?

More specifically, as the Title asks, is one more likely to trigger motion sickness in those of us who struggle?

As I understand the two [2] attractions, the motion-experience for:
a.) Smugglers Run is 'best compared' to Star Tours (i.e., folks who have 'problems' with Star Tours have similar complaints for Smugglers).
b.) Rise of the Resistance is.....????

For the record:
- I am unable to enjoy Star Tours, Mission: Space, find the new Soarin' to be <meh>, will do Tower of Terror (but avoid b/c my child dislikes it).
- I do enjoy Dinosaur, Flights of Passage, and the classic coasters; I laugh at all the 3-D movies.

Thank you for your comments about the rides & comparative motion sickness.

I sometimes feel a little icky after Star Tours, but I didn’t feel that way after Smugglers Run, maybe because you have to concentrate on pushing your buttons at the right time. Also, there are no 3D glasses on Smugglers, so that may make a difference. Rise of the Resistance did not make me feel sick at all - there is just too much going on! If I’m sufficiently distracted, I don’t get nauseated.

My wife struggles with motion sickness a lot, can’t ride Star Tours. She did both of these attractions with no problems. Based on the nature of the ride, Smugglers Run seems to be more likely to cause issues than Rise of the Resistance, but don’t believe it would be at the same level of Star Tours, and no where near Mission Space.

Most definitely Smuggler's Run has more motion sickness capability, especially if you are pilot. If you are gunner or engineer then you can pretty much busy yourself pushing buttons as your job requires. As pilot you are forced to look forward. In my opinion there is no such motion sickness involved with Rise of the Resistance. I'm actually ok with both rides but cannot ride Mission Space. I'm actually ok with the other rides you listed.

I second all of this, Star Tours can affect me, zero effect from either Smugglers Run or Rise of the Resistance. I would say the motion part in ROTR is much shorter than a whole run of SR, so I think it would not affect many people.

Oh and since someone else mentioned it Mission Space is Right Out for me, I've only ridden it once and very much regretted it.

So we did the ride twice beginning of December. I get motion sickness, but not as bad as DH. So he figured he’d drive, thinking it would be best (although I mentioned your suggestions to sit in the back.) He felt very dizzy after the ride. 2nd time, he was an engineer, and said he was much better. I was both a shooter and pilot, and although pilot was more fun, I did feel less dizzy in back.

I have ridden twice, engineer both times, so maybe that helped me. Since the panel is off to the side, you’re not looking at the screen the whole time.

Right. That’s why I told him to sit in the back. I honestly think it was just hard for him to sit in the back while I drove!!! 😂 😂

I have terrible motion sickness and have to use the prescription patch to ride just about everything at Disney. Both the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge rides are 100% fine for me. Star Tours would be impossible for me without the patch.

The only ride I cannot do even with the patch is FoP.

I should also note, DH rode it the first time using Dramamine (took a little over a half hour before the ride) and he still felt very dizzy as a pilot.

My husband gets motion sick—fine with coasters but cannot do teacups or any spinning things. He can do Soarin and was fine with Smugglers as the pilot. He felt terrible after FOP

I cannot do Star Tours or Misson Space - not a huge fan of Soarin, but as long as I focus my eyes on a fixed object I am ok, better if I just avoid. For FOP I had to close my eyes or stare down at the banshee quite a few times. Not sure if I will do FOP again this year. Looking forward to both ROTR and MFSR - I will be in the back on MFSR. ROTR from all reports will be fine, but I expect to feel some tummy issues after MFSR.

I have found that a lot of the motion sickness problems on Smugglers Run depends on the pilots. If you have young kids (or others) in those seats that don't know up from down and right from left (so to speak) then you move around a lot more. If you have adults / video gamers, etc. then the ride is smoother and you move in sync with the "logical" movements on the screen.

As always, thank you all!!

The remarks have been generally consistent from folks with seemingly similar motion experiences.

Seems that for my needs - Rise of the Resistance is going to be OK for me, and I should consider Smuggles Run as likely being a one-and-done attraction.

See y'all at the Parks.

My daughter and I both suffer from motion sickness and rode Smugglers Run. We chose to be in the back and just hit the buttons. We had someone's kids as pilots, I didn't realize it would be smoother with adult pilots but that makes sense. We were both fine after riding, but like others mentioned I focused a lot on pushing the buttons and not so much on the ride.

I had no problem my first few times riding Smuggler's Run. But the last time we had 2 pilots that had no clue what they were doing and we crashed a lot. I was very dizzy getting off the ride that time.

I never go on rides that even mention motion sickness. Could I just close my eyes during the iffy parts of the ride ROTR and SR and still survive?

I’m not sure what you would consider an iffy part. There is a lot going on in this attraction.

I have trouble with visual ups and downs. I close my eyes during Soarin when we appear to be going through that type of motion. I could never attempt FOP.

In that case, mfsr is all simulator, up and down, left and right, made better or worse by the osnos you have, i wouldn't waste time on iye I'd you have ti closer your eyes the entire time
RotR, has one portion that might trigger it, it's only about a minute long . So that would be your best bet to ride
