Motion Sickness question

I get motion sickness on stimulator rides so it seems a lot of rides are out of the question for me at both parks. I’m a little uncertain about Escape from Gringotts and the Mummy ride. Are both of these stimulator? The description and videos I’ve watched aren’t really clear on exactly how the ride is. I’ve read to avoid Forbidden Journey and Simpsons especially if you’re prone to motion sickness.

How about Hagrid’s? I’m usually ok on roller coasters but honestly couldn’t handle riding the Hulk the older I’m getting...is Hagrid’s really intense?

The mummy is a rollercoaster so you should be fine with that.

Escape from gringotts moves on a track but yes it's a 3d screen as you're moving around. I have horrible motion sickness and can manage this ride but forbidden journey, the Simpsons and Jimmy Fallon is a huge no go for me.

The other "simulator" track rides I can think of are Spiderman and transformers.
Dispicable me and shrek are simulators that don't move, you're just in a theatre but it's absolutely down to how severe you have it.
Oh I also forgot, Kong and fast & furious are also simulator track rides.

There are a heck of a lot of these sort of simulator style rides at Universal!

Unfortunately I've yet to ride hagrids so can't comment on that x

Haven’t been on Hagrid’s, but I also get motion sickness on most screen-based rides (and Universal has a LOT of them)! I was totally fine on Mummy & Gringott’s.. and Forbidden Journey. They were actually three of my favorites there. The ones That did make me queasy were the Kong one & the Simpsons ride.

My boyfriend NEVER gets motion sickness and he felt sick on Forbidden Journey. 🤷🏼‍♀️ So idk

On most of the "simulator" rides, I have found that the ride vehicle is mostly stopped while you're watching the screen. There's brief and fast movements on some rides during screen parts, but the whipping around and fast moving tends to happen most often while the ride vehicle is in between screens. Some are worse than others for this. On the Simpsons, you watch one screen the entire ride so I would say that's worst for motion sickness. I also have trouble on Men In Black - not a simulator ride, but the ride vehicle itself spins quickly at multiple points.

Simpsons and Minions bothered me and I’m not prone to motion sickness at amusement parks (boats of all sizes do me in!). Don’t skip FJ. Mummy and Gringotts are fine! Maybe experiment with Bonine or non drowsy motion sickness meds prior to going just to see what the side effects are like for you. Then just use those.

I’m going to rank them from “not bad” to “pure hell.” I do ok on everything right up until Jimmy Fallon. Simpson’s is my personal hell. I go on it every time (my husband enjoys the ride) but I spend the whole time avoiding looking at the screen..and I still feel sick.

The Mummy
Minions / FJ / Gringotts
Kong / Fast & Furious
Jimmy Fallon
SpiderMan / Transformers
The Simpsons Ride

As a previous poster recommended, you should look into some motion sickness aids. I bought Bonine, MotionEaze topical, and motion sickness patches.

I get pretty bad motion sickness and Gringotts does not bother me. Forbidden Journey does.

Hagrid’s made me a little queasy.. felt it for a few minutes after getting off the ride. We were in the front row and I’ve heard front row vs back row are very different experiences. But honestly it was so fun that it was worth it and I’d do it again! I take Bonine to help.

I’m way too chicken for Hulk!

No issues at all on Kong.

I just close my eyes on most simulator rides. I've ridden Spiderman several times but close my eyes through a lot of it. I took Bonine every morning, this time I plan to start that a few days before we leave. I have tummy drops (with ginger) in my bag at all times. Nothing works great for me except closing my eyes when I start to feel sick.

Hagrid's is fast, but it doesn't fling you around the way Hulk or Rip Ride Rocket do. There are no inversions and only a couple of small drop elements. You do go backwards for a short section, but it's just around a single curve and it's more to get you to a new story element, it's not trying to whip you around or anything. It almost reminds me more of Test Track at Epcot than any other coaster in Orlando, although it has some similarities with Cheetah Run at Busch Gardens in Tampa. It's a very smooth ride, with speed as the main thrill factor.

Forbidden Journey is a no for me - the screens have actually gotten better with recently updated films that are a lot clearer, but the motion is still very jerky and doesn't always line up with what you're seeing or expecting, which makes it a worse motion-sickness-wise for me. Add in that I have to keep my eyes closed through the whole spider section and it's just not a good match for me. That said, be sure you still go through the line queue if you're a Harry Potter fan - it's absolutely gorgeous and has a zillion wonderful references built in. Absolutely worth the tour even if you're not riding.

Gringotts is really its own sort of thing. You're usually not moving when there are simulator screens going on, so it's really different from person to person. It's a lot of fun and I've never had motion sickness issues, but it also uses the 3D glasses, which I know make the videos worse for some people.

I haven't been on Simpsons (I just have no interest in the show), so I don't know about that, but Jimmy Fallon made me incredibly sick and I barely made it to the restroom in time afterwards. I didn't feel like the video was aligned well with the movement and it was just really rough for me. But I also don't really follow his show, so I didn't have much of a connection to the story and I didn't know what to expect, so mileage may vary on that one.

It's been a while since I went on Mummy, just because the line's usually pretty long when I'm there, but it definitely doesn't have screens. It does go backwards for a while and I haven't had any motion sickness issues on that one, but I can't really comment on details there.

I'm usually fine on Spiderman and it's one of my favorites, although one time when I rode, there was a glitch with the timing off, so the car would move around at unexpected moments that didn't match with the screen, but that wasn't supposed to happen and I've never had issues other than that one time.

Hagrid's was horrible for me. Took a couple hours for me to feel ok again. I didn't attempt Gingotts after that. Simpson's was also really bad.
