I tend to get motion sickness ... it's not super-serious, but it does cause me to feel headachey, queasy and grumpy. When I go on a cruise I usually start taking Bonine a couple of days in advance so it's in my system, and then once a day for the duration and I'm completely fine.

Should I take it prophylactially for Disney? I know there aren't that many nausea-inducing rides, but I'm curious what other motion-sufferers do. I love rides, but I hate feeling crummy afterward.

Hi Heidi!

Like you, I have times where I can get motion sickness. I nip it in the bud by taking a Walmart generic version of Dramimine. I took one everyday before going into the parks and I did just fine. I don't like feeling poopy on vacation, so I'd rather play it safe than sorry.

Have a fantastic trip and thanks for reminding me to pick up some for my Stone Mountain trip in a few weeks. Nothing really nausating there, but again...better safe than sorry.

Blessings,
Denise :goodvibes

I sometimes get motion sickness myself but found that I did pretty well at Disney on my recent trip. The only ride that bothered me a bit was mission space, I felt a bit queasy after riding it. It wasn't that great so if your not set on riding it, just avoid it. They say soarin could cause motion sickness but I had no problems and thought it was great. Either way I'd say you'd be find to take a few dramimine just in case. Have fun!

Hi Heidi,
If you get bothered at all on motion rides or simulators it probably wouldn't hurt to take a Bonine or Dramamaine each day before heading to the parks. There is at least one ride in each park that has the potential to make you grumpy! If you've taken them before than you do not have to worry about some of the side effects that people feel, and you are better safe than sorry.

I did this a few weeks ago and did not get sick on Mission Space or any other ride. Last year the tea cups were too much!

Have fun!

This is a great question. I tend to get bad headaches after the simulator rides. But have never taken anything b/c dramamine makes me sleepy. Is Bonine better? I would love to prevent the motion sickness without feeling tired all day.

I take bonine for motion sickness and love it, it lasts 24 hours so no remembering to take pills every 4 and it doesn't make me sleepy (which is very unusual because everything makes me sleepy) my only reccomendation is don't take it on an empty stomach and swallow it not chew it lol.

I have also used sea bands which are great too!

As long as the Bonine does not bother you or make you tired, I would say go for it. It doesn't always work for everyone but if you have no side effects, give it a shot. I personally tend to get sick more on spinning type rides and am perfectly fine on simulators and similar rides that only toss you around.

Roller coasters always make me sick and I have tried Bonine and other products but none help. Still get the headache, sweats, and queasy feeling - usually have to sit down for 30 minutes or so and then do not feel normal for a few hours. Same thing happened on Mission Space although I'm fine on Star Tours and Body Wars even if I do not take anything! Also, I was fine on the cruise and only took Bonine once when we hit some really rough seas. Many people got sick but I was fine.

Although most think of Mission Space as a simulator, it really is a spinning ride combined with a screen. Unlike Star Tours and Body Wars which just move you from side to side and up and down, Mission Space is a giant centrifuge that you spin in.

Why take drugs you may not need? We travel and cruise a lot and we swear by Relief Bands (http://www.reliefband.com/main.html) . My wife and daughter used to get motion sick all the time, especially on simulator type rides (and cruises) until we found these.

Note that these AREN'T those little elastic bands (called sea bands) with balls that you get at Walmart (we didn't have much success with those). Relief Bands are electronic "wristwatch-looking" things that are the ONLY FDA approved device for motion sickess and nausea.

The advantages over drugs are:

1. No side effects
2. Only use it if you need it
3. You can use it AFTER you get symptoms
4. It works incredibly fast (within a few minutes)
5. You can dial up just as much relief as you need.

These things are fantastic and well worth the price.

I LOVE ROLLER COASTERS but I must admit I have motion sickness. I made the mistake last year of not taking anything before we went to Epcot under the guise of 'It's EPCOT. How bad can it be?". Mission Space put me on my back...literally :rotfl2: . I will make SURE that I take my Dramamine in the morning after breakfast. I also want to try those relief bands. I wonder if you need a perscription for those...

Thanks so much for the suggestion! I had never heard of this and will definitely give it a try. This sounds great!!
