How effective are motion sickness pills on rides such as Rock N Roller Coaster, Star Tours and Tower of Terror? We will be going in October of this year and I would like to ride these (as well as Mission Space) but my tendency to get "motion sickness" on these types of rides makes me a little anxious.

Does anyone have any experiences? Is there a kind of pill that works better than others?

Thanks for the help! :p

I take dramamine one hour before going on RR and ToT. I've never had a problem. I have seen postings on this board regarding another motion-sickness pill...something that can work instantly and [possibly] retroactively. Maybe someone can jump in and help me with the name. Have a great time...RR and ToT are not to be missed!

we take the LESS DROWSY DRAMIMINE, works wonders.take it when you first get up and you will be fine, make sure you get the LESS DROWSY and not the regular, the regular knocks me out.

The best pill I know of is called Bonine. It is over the counter, won't make you sleepy and works great!!! We take one first thing in the morning before the park and it works all day.
We usually get very queasy on rides but this pill is amazing!

Bonine and Dramamine II (less drowsy formula) are the same thing--the generic name is Meclizine HCL (25mg). Bonine is a chewable (great tasting) form that is really good for kids and adults. But it can be hard to find sometimes. Dramamine II is easier to find. You may be able to ask your pharmacy if they can order you the generic form (you don't need a prescription) and can get a large quantity fairly cheap--I think I paid less than $10 for 100 pills several years ago. I have severe motion sickness and SWEAR by these. I can't even watch my kids on the swing without getting sick. Regular Dramamine knocks me out really bad so the non drowsy ones have changed my life! I don't get motion sick on roller coasters anymore, just terrified! Actually, I have the worst problems with things that just spin--no amount of motion sickness medicine can get me on a Merry-Go-Round (and you can just forget the Teacups!)

Also, they will work "retroactivly" but not as well as if you took them before. It may take a little while but it will settle your stomach and relieve dizzyness. I believe the prescription formula is/was used for people with Vertigo.

Good luck

I got very sick the first time I rode Star tours (and BTTF and hanna barberra at US). Since then I have ridden all 3 using Bonine and it really make a difference

Motion sickness pills may help but are no guarantee.

I get sick on coasters but can stomach Star Tours/Body Wars.

I tried Bonin when we spent a day at Islands of Adventure. I took the pill 45 minutes before we got to the park. Our first ride was the Incredible Hulk ( a wild coaster). I had to sit for at least 30 minutes after I got off because I felt sick. Fortunately everybody else went right back on and waited for front row seats so I had plenty of time to recover.

The same happened to me at Disney's California Adventure when I went on the coaster there.

The pills may have helped me get less sick but I still felt pretty sick after both coasters.

Im glad to hear Im not the only one who gets sick on the tea cup ride. My kids tease me so bad. Roller Coasters dont bother me. Its the rides that go around in circles. I have never tried using dramamine for the rides but it works well on the plane flight for my daughter. Ginger is very good for the quesy stomach. I am a genealogist and the repititious movements of the microfilm machine (while I search old records on microfilm) makes me sick. so before I do any research at the family history center I have dinner at the chinese restaurant and eat some fresh chinese ginger that they keep near the sushi. It works wonders for me. I dont know where it can be bought, but you might try a health food store or something like a GNC. Also I have heard that ginger snap cookies and ginger tea are good for the upset stomach but I have never tried those.

PS..If you are able to find fresh chinese ginger, eat it in small amounts, it is very stong.

Also test the Bonine ( mechlazine) before you go. I have used it a couple times and though it is the less drownsy formula it still hit me pretty hard and I had to go back to the hotel to take a nap. It is not fun going to the parks when you feel like that. It was recommended to me to begin taking them a couple days before the trip so I got used to it but I was still sleepy everyday. It did allow me to ride somethings that I would normally get sick on but the big coasters were still to powerful for the pill! You may not have the problem so give it a test.

My wife can get sickonas little as a 3 minute ride to the store. On our honeymoon in 90 the lady sitting next to her on the plane was putting on these unusual bands on her wrists. Ofcourse my DW asked what they were for. They were for motion sickness. They are sold under a few different names but the most common name is Sea bands. As prone to motion sickness as my DW is \, she has never gotten sick while wearing them. That includes riding or flying. They are usually for sale in most Drug stores or Walmarts. The best thing is that they can be used by a person regardless of age. My 2 DD 7 and 5 wear them also. And they do not make you drowsy. They relly do work I use them on the really rough six flags type rides. Cost is aroud 10 bucks but they can be reused till the bands strech out to much:bounce: :bounce:

talk to your pharmacist. I talked to mine about my daughters motion sickness for when she is on the plane. I have to watch what I give my daughter because of other medication she is taking. I asked him about the motion sickness patch and the bracelets. He mentioned that the bracelet has something to do with the pulse points on your wrist. He didnt really recommend it for my daughter. I hear the patch works well but I dont know if it will make you drowsy or not. You need a prescription to get it. I didnt realize that the motion sickness bracelets were sold over the counter, I havent seen them but I havent looked for them either.

The ptaches make me very sleepy and almost drunk feeling. I've seen the sea bands in the stores before, but of course not when I wanted to buy one.
He mentioned that the bracelet has something to do with the pulse points on your wrist
It works with pressure points, not pulse points. I wonder why he reccomended against using one for your DD. I would think that would be the best option since she is on meds that could interact with the other treatments.

I take a bonine everyday while I'm at WDW.:o I have been able to ride most everything. I do not, however, ride the tea cups. DD loves them and if I as much as watch her on those I feel queasy!:o
I wore the wrist bands quite a bit when pregnant for that nauseus feeling.

The wrist bands did not work for me, and neither did the meclizine, it only makes me sleepy! The patch worked the best of anything I've tried, but I kept bumping into doorways and tripping over my feet! I recommend you try things before you go to know how they affect you!
Someone mentioned ginger - dried ginger was given to my DD for seasickness. She was told to chew on it for a little while, then throw it away. It really helped her tummy!
Good Luck!
