Hello everyone! Next month I am going to Universal for 3 days (including Volcano Bay) then 3 days going between Discovery Cove, SeaWorld and Aquatica. This is everyone in my family's first trip to all these parks!! I'm nervous about motion sickness on the rollercoasters and 3D rides. Since this is a family trip and I'm the mommy taking care of everyone so I can't be feeling sick or getting a headache. Based on so many of your recommendations, I asked for the motion sickness patch (Transderm Scopolamine). The doctor gave me two of them. The pharmacist said to put one on 4 hours beforehand and keep it on for 3 days (it lasts for 3 days). I was planning to go to water parks on days 2, 4, and 6 of my trip.

My question is does the motion sickness patch fall off at water parks or in pools? If it gets wet does it no longer work?
Can I take it off and put it back on the next day, or does the patch dry up? Or will the on and off of the patch from my skin make me feel dizzy??

Since so many of you use the patch, I was hoping you might be able to answer this for me. Thanks in advance!!! :flower:

Firstly, everyone has different experiences with the patch and I am sure you will hear about many of them as people reply to your post.

Are you the only adult on the trip? I have motion sickness problems and I avoided a trip to Universal with my kids until this past March because I wasn't sure any remedy would work for my motion sickness and prior to our March trip I was the sole adult so we only did Disney until DH joined us on March trip. For the March trip I figured even if the patch and various other backup remedies didn't work and I started to feel sick I could just go back to hotel and DH could be with the kids.

I used the patch for our three days at Universal. You definitely need to put it on hours before hand so it works ~as you were instructed.

I did not take the patch off for those three consecutive days at Universal. It stayed on with no problem when I showered each day. The patch worked wonders for me allowing me to go on those 3d rides and coasters. Some people had a very different experience using the patch.

Notably, "long term" use of the patch may cause blurry vision. How long you would need to wear the patch before this happens I do not know and it may be different for different people.

I hope it works for you!

Thank you for your response! I'm not the only adult on the trip, my husband is going too, but I did sooooo much research on this trip and have such a game plan on where to go, what to ride in what order, what to eat, etc, he would have no clue what to do without me and gets overwhelmed easy Lol!

I'm so glad to hear it worked for you!!! I'm probably overthinking it!

OMG I totally understand what you are saying.

DH has not come with us prior to this trip because he does not like amusement parks anymore.

In fact, the only reason he was on this trip was because our son was playing with his high school team at ESPN and he wanted to watch his games.

I too am the planner and it was our first trip to Universal, SW and DC as well and I was worried how things would work if I was out of commission.

I so wanted to be able to ride the Harry Potter rides. That really was my only goal in getting the patch.

So, I was beyond elated when I was able to ride everything even the Hulk coaster, albeit with my eyes closed, with not one little problem.

Indeed, my motion sickness is so bad that I can't even turn around in the car for two seconds to see my kids in the back seat!

I wish you the same luck I had with the patch!

Where can I get one of these patches? I didn't know they exist and I am very motion sensitive.

Yep, I'm sure I've seen a few posters mention they have to get them on prescription only........

My DH is a scuba diver, uses them on his live-aboard trips, and gets them very wet all the time! He just leaves them on so I can't answer that question. He said some people cut them in half and only use half, but he does not do that.

I had to call my doctor's office and ask for it specifically by the drug name. Because I was there for an annual visit already this year, they just called in a Rx for me to the pharmacy. Although the nurse asked me a bunch of questions, then asked if it was necessary they called in a Rx for only 1 patch! I called to call again to ask for another one! I don't know why they seem to be so reluctant, I'm not on any other medication and am in good health.

Thank you! I don't currently have a doctor (avoid them as much as possible) so I guess I need to either find one or look for an alternative!

I have worn the Scop patch on multiple occasions including a cruise where we were in the water a lot - including some diving into Blue Hole in Jamaica. Never had a problem with the patch falling off. I suppose it's possible that a high-speed water slide could pull it off, though. Haven't tried that.

The only side effects I have had is some blurred vision for a few hours after putting the first one on and very minor dizziness when I stopped using it.

I got a 3 pack from my doctor for my universal trip. Do they do well if you get sunscreen on them? I'm not plannng on smearing sunscreen on them but I usually try and get my neck and ears.

I did ask the pharmacist about it and he wasn't an expert on the patch, but he did think it could take a good amount of water without the effectiveness being reduced but being in a water for most of the day in a water park, he couldn't say for sure.
