Motion sickness on Spiderman?

I know Spiderman is a simulation ride and my husband does not tend to do well with simulations. For those of you who have rdden it, did you get motion sickness? I hear it is a not-to-be-missed ride, but I do not want anyone to get sick either. Just trying to decide if he will have to pass on this one or not. If it helps, he rode Mission: Space and it wiped him out for about 4 hours- it was awful! Thanks!

I would consider Spiderman similar to Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom. It can be a bit sensational (especially the tail end of the attraction, as you do simulate that you are flying through New York), but it's certainly not as intense as Mission: Space.

For the special effects alone, this is a MUST. One of the most unique attractions you'll ever experience. If it's too intense, just close the eyes.

I have issues with motion sickness on rides (inner ear/balance issues). I can do Spiderman but have to close my eyes on the "down" part. As long as I do that I'm fine.

Lol this is funny, because me and my sister bb was talking about this the other day the strange thing is she gets sick on rollercoasters and ride that spin fast, but the spiderman doesn't do a thing to her. As for me(tipp) I have a very strong stomach and can stand anything except spiderman it kinda makes me sick. It's not too bad of a ride, but motion sickness can occur. I think it is a ride not to be missed you should definitely try it!

I love this ride & can't wait to ride it again on our next trip. However, DH gets motion sickness & this ride did make him ill:sick:. He also got sick on the Back to the Future ride that used to be at UO & said he felt the 2 rides were similar. Guess it's one of those things where it depends on which types of movements &/or visual inputs cause your motion sickness.

I would think Spiderman would give people who suffer motion sickness some problems. Not only is there the "falling" aspect in it, but it has some spinning as well.

Has your husband tried taking Dramamine or Bonine? I tend to get motion sickness as well, however if I take either of those before I hit the parks then I'm completely fine. The "down" part Darcy mentions would definitely make me feel ill.

The first time I ever went to IOA, I got on The Hulk first thing in the morning. I forgot to take Bonine and felt awful after I got off the ride. I sat down on a bench and decided I was wasting valuable park time and could at least do the kiddie rides over in Seuss while waiting to feel better. Soooo, off to Cat in the Hat I went. I didn't know about the spinning. :crazy2: I felt worse coming off of Cat than I did Hulk. Embarrassing.

If you can do it, look towards the ceiling to stabilize yourself since it does not move. If you can glance back and forth it might help. :cool2:

Ditto for my DH. 1st time we were ever at Universal he hit Jimmy Neutron 1st and then wouldn't ride simulators after that. So, the last time we went I bought the bulk size of Dramamine and no problems whatsoever.:thumbsup2

These are the two parts that get me everytime....they don't get me bad, but enough to give my head a little spinning and nausea.

Hiya,

I get sick standing on a pier looking at the ocean, and once- spectacularly - at the exit to the arctic sim at Seaworld.... ooooppps, but spiderman didn't make me feel sick at all, it did jerk around a lot though, so there is not enough time for anything to affect the contents of your stomach! The kids were petrified though and would not go on it a second time...

DH gets sick on Spiderman with or without dramamine/bonine. Also Cat in the Hat because of the spinning. He people watches while we all go on!

I also suffer from motion sickness but I am fine on Spiderman. But as a pp said I also close my eyes on the falling down part!!! It is a great ride and a lot of fun! I also went on Mission Space-- the less intense green side-- and I did not like it very much. Too intense for me and I had to close my eyes a couple of times and I did not like being confined in that simulater!:scared: Hope you don't mind if I throw out another question for those of us who suffer from motion sickness. How is the Simpsons Ride? If I like Spiderman will I like the Simpsons? I usually make my family go on the ride first and they tell me if they think I can handle it. They have been right every time except with Space Mountain-- UGH-- never doing that again!!!

Same experience here! It was at the exit to that Seaworld arctic adventure attraction that I had my first experience with bad motion sickness too(managed to keep it together but I had to sit down for a long, long time). Since then I've had problems on Star Tours at Disney and Jimmy Neutron too. I've realized that I shouldn't ride any simulator that remains in one location for the duration of the ride. I have zero problems with Spidey, Cat in the Hat and Rollercoasters because the vehicles are on the move and no one motion lasts very long. Thank goodness cause I love Spiderman!

In my opinion Simpsons has far greater potential to cause motion sickness (of course it depends on what kind of motion is bad in your case). As I said before I have big problems with non-travelling simulators and although this one does not stay in a fixed location exactly, it doesn't have a wide range of direction to it for the majority of the ride. I was fine but I did close and/or avert my eyes periodically for good measure. Also, I'd recommend the front seat (if you can get it) since it is much more "open" and much less confining. Spiderman was no problem for me either, love it!

Yep! The Simpsons is much worse than Spiderman. I can see that one messing up someone's day for a bit. I used to ride everything I could at parks around the country with no problems at all....and then I must have went and got older or something. ;) I take Dramamine NON DROWSY when I visit the parks now and it works wonders.

My DH is very sensitive to motion sickness. He can ride Spiderman no problem. But he tried Simpson's last fall, with Bonine, and it still was a big no no. He was done for the rest of the day.

I rode it and honestly thought I was going to throw up. Had to close my eyes for the rest of the ride. Never rode it again.

Of course, the Cat in the Hat makes me a little nauseous, so I definitely am the worst.

Nobody has talked me into Mission Space yet.
