Motion sickness on Mission Space

Just got back from 16 days at Disney World. We rode Mission Space 5 times (4 of them during the Annual Passholders weekend). My 11 year old son loved it! He said it is his new favorite ride at Disney. The centrifuge spinning really does not tend to bother children at all. However, everytime we got off the ride we saw a number or adults at the exit "sick". The only time my stomach felt a little unusual was when we rode it 2 times back-to-back. We talked to a number of people during the two weeks that we were there, many of the adults especially men got sick from the ride. I started thinking about it and sure enough all the people we had seen sick after the ride were men as well. I wonder if there is any reason why adult males would be affected more than women or children??? Any way the ride is really great.
YOu simply have to experience it. I am sure that everyone would feel a little different on any ride anyway.

my husband has a motion sickness problem so I wonder if dramamine would help...or maybe go during illuminations so we won't ruin the whole day with him feeling sick. do the vehicle seem at all clastrophobic? they definitely look like it on the web site. are they as big as say startours? or just a narrow little compartment like the old voyage to the bottom of the sea subs?

Funny you said that. Someone told me the other day they remember reading a fact that women can handle more G-force than a man. Unfortunately I do not know why.

We just got back from WDW last night and after much trepidation, we rode Mission Space. We debated in line as some of us, including myself, cannot do the tea cups due to spinning. I figured what the heck, go for it. It was awesome. A few felt a little queezy after the ride, and we did see a few people getting sick in a garage can outside the ride, but I was fine.

As long as you keep your head back, stare straight ahead-DO NOT LOOK AROUND OR SHUT YOUR EYES-they say you should be fine. One of the woman had to eat some pretzels after, she said it felt like morning sickness. It was cool. Don't know that I would do it again, would that be pushing my luck? But I am glad that I did it!

Oh, and I also don't like to do the Rocket ship, or Dumbo either. But Mission Space was fine. For the record, I just turned 50- Hate to admit it-but most people think I look about 35 so it's ok. LOL.

I will probably never ride it again.
Never got sick during the ride (neither did the 12, 10, 0r 9 year olds with me) but after I got off. I was dizzy and had a bad headache for about an hour. My DD age 9 and I sat on the floor of the shop and sipped sprite till we felt well enough to move.
The 12 and 10 year old boys went on again with extra fastpasses we had and it did not bother them at all.
One kid threw up coming out after us and his mom was buying him a new shirt.
they should have big couches to recover on:)
there were people sitting all over the floor of the air conditioned shop.

It was a truly incredible ride and I am glad I did it at least once!!

After reading the description of MS it makes sense to me why so many people feel sick afterwards. The constant spinning would totally screw up your inner ear (much like it does in space where you don't have gravity to keep the fluid where it should be in the ear - as an interesting side note, when astronauts return to earth, it takes their ears a while to get back to normal and until they do if you turn out the lights and leave them in the dark, an astronaut will fall over since they're using their sight to determine balance and which way is up). You'd feel sick until your inner ear settled down which for some may be a few minutes and others a few hours. Anyway, I think I'll skip it this trip since we're not there for very long and I don't want to spend part of it feeling awful.

we aren't going till Dec. so if people are actually that sick, maybe they'll tone it down alittle before than .

I just returned from WDW last week. I sadly decided NOT to ride Mission Space after watching people exit the ride. About every 8th person looked green. I never saw anyone barf but quite a few people looked like they would pass out. It just wasn't worth it for me. I didn't want to ruin my valuable vacation time potentially feeling dizzy or nauseous. I don't think I could handle it. The claustrophobia aspect of the ride freaks me out as well.

the motion sickness would get my husband, the claustrophobia me so for get us going too! never wanted to be an astronaut anyway....way to scarey!

I rode twice this week. The first time I had absolutely no ill effects. The second time I was a little ill the rest of the day (morning sickness is an apt description) and had a slight headache until I took some Tylenol.

DS10 had no problems and loved the ride--and he hates thrill rides. DD7 gets motion sickness in the car, loves thrill rides, and looked like she was fine after the first ride but confessed later that she was a little sick afterwards. DH had no ill effects, but could feel the g-forces in his chest while I couldn't.

It's still a fabulous ride! It would have been my new favorite if not for the second trip.

Oh--and the fast-pass for this ride is sooo quick. I was almost disappointed that we couldn't look more closely at some of the stuff in the queuing area.

Can somebody please describe this ride for me? I have no idea what it does or what kind of motion you experience. Is this one of the rides that says "don't ride if ....."? Tell me all about it, please.

We were at WDW three weeks ago and rode MS prior to the opening on Aug. 15. My son's friend is a CM and they were using CM to test the ride. He indicated they had to slow it down because too many people were getting sick. It is my understanding the ride moves at approximately 35 miles per hour. I am subject to motion sickness and coasters don't usully affect me.

However, after this ride I felt queezy and had to sit down for awhile. The ride is nothing like a coaster. It simulates the blastoff of the space shuttle and landing on Mars. You sit in a centifude that spins around. I loved the ride; however, the next time I ride I plan to take Bonnie or use the wrist bands to prevent any motion sickness. It was a nice experience because it gives you some idea of space travel. This ride is the closest I think I will ever get to riding in space. If you do experience motion sickness I think there is a good chance this may affect you. Enjoy your vacation!

has any one tried an anti motion sickness thing with this, if so did it work. also how clastophobic inducing is it for exmple, are you closed in or are the seats in a large "room"(like tours) I presume it's dark. now of the rides at the parks bother me but am clsutrophobic and wonder just how bad this appears!
