Motion sickness on Forbidden Journey?

If you're ok getting a prescription for it, I can't speak highly enough for Transderm Scop. It's a small patch you place behind your ear and, for myself and my wife, works wonders. Lasts for about 3 days before you need to replace it. First time I rode FJ without it, it was almost unbearable. Next time with it, and I was able to really enjoy the ride. May not work for everyone, but it does for us.

I've been thinking about Transderm Scop - it sounds like it really does the job without making you drowsy, which is my problem with all the medications I've tried so far. But I keep reading stories about the side effects, like blurred vision and nausea after you stop taking it. Have you had any problems with it?

Hi All,

We will be going to Universal in a couple of weeks time. My DBf is wondering whether he will be ok on the Forbidden Journey ride. He does sometimes suffer with motion sickness but some things don't affect him.

For example - he is perfectly fine on Soarin but Star Tours made him feel very ill about 10 seconds in and he felt ill all day after that.

Does anyone have any tips / advice?

Thanks.
I'm fine on Soarin (I love it. It's a favorite), but Star Tours bothers me. I also have problems on the Wild Artic at SeaWorld. Anyway at Universal I mostly just did tame things, but did try Gringotts and Forbidden Journey. I had to close my eyes on Forbidden Journey (I was starting to feel motion sickness for sure, so was glad when the ride was finally over), and next time would just do the castle tour or wait in the queue with others but skip the ride part. The good thing, though, for me at least is it didn't affect me for long. I felt perfectly normal after I was off the ride for 10 minutes. I've had experiences where I didn't feel that great for one to three hours afterwords on some things, so I'm not going to complain about 10 minutes before feeling normal. Gringotts was considerably tamer than Forbidden Journey on the motion sickness front. Still, though, I'd skip that one next time too, but in this case I am glad I tried it to experience it. I was fine on this one as soon as I got off, but still the ride wasn't exactly pleasant (way more pleasant than Forbidden Journey for me though). // I used to do coaster, motion simulators, dark rides, etc. without problems, but as I've gotten older things have really changed for me. Starting at age 45 I started giving up certain rides, and now at age 54 coasters have to be smooth and fast, drop rides are still fine, but motion simulators and things with a lot of twists and turns just aren't fun anymore. // My top things to do at Universal next time would be to explore the HP areas, dance with the Minions, do the Jurassic Park Discovery Center and water ride, hit some shows and even though it's not that great a drop ride do Dr. Doom, as I like all drop rides. And, of course, do the HP train. Food for theme park fare is quite good too. I especially liked the Leaky Cauldron. I did not like Butterbeer -- many love it, but I had tastes of all three times and all I can say is YUCK. Easy to skip those calories.

Note too, as I was just doing two things out of my comfort zone, I didn't bother with any seasick pills, etc. And many say that those really help. Last I was at Universal was 1989, and back then I was NOT impressed. What a change. I really and truly enjoyed my day here.

Forbidden Journey made me so sick. I went into it thinking it was like Soarin, which I LOVE! It wasn't at all. It was a very well done ride, but if you are prone to motion sickness at all, you will get sick on this ride. It took me at least an hour for the nausea to wear off. Gringotts didn't bother me at all. It is much tamer than FJ. Most other motion simulated rides had me feeling fine within 15 minutes. Next time, I will bring a scopolamine patch with me.

Sorry for the late response. I've used them probably on a dozen different occasions and haven't had any issues with it so far. DW has used them more than I, and she hasn't had any problems either. Can't say you won't, but between DW and I, we've never had any problems with using them.

That's good to hear! I'm definitely going to consider them.
