Motion Sickness Help....

So my BIL has quite the problem with motion sickness. It's really strange though, he doesn't have a problem with spinning or watching something. For example Teacups and Star Tours are fine. However his motion sickness manifests itself through drops such as the drop on POTC....I know, I know that's crazy but, it's true. The problem is he really loves thrill rides and wants to do them but, just doesn't want to get sick. For example last year he couldn't take it anymore and rode RNRC for the first time, he absolutely loved it and did alright for a while, it wasn't until the bus ride back to the resort that he got wozzy. Anyway, my question is....has anyone out there had any experience with taking any kind of medication to help with their motion sickness. He is going to the Dr. to check on it before we go back in Nov. but, I just wanted to see if anyone here had any experience. Thanks for the help. :wave2:

When we were there in Febuary we saw a lot of people with these little stickers that look like round band-aids behind thier ears. I overheard someone explaining them that they are for motion sickness, you put them on a day before you leave and change them every so often. I get very motion sick, I can handle the teacups and POTC, but any of the circle vision movies or Star tours ( Im not even going to try Mission Space) I am a mess. I tried the "Sea Bands" those baclets that people use on cruise ships but it just made my wrist hurt. Im intreged by the thing behind your ear, but being here in Canada I dont know where to get them or if I need a RX.

Hope this helps

I too have problems with motion sickness. I can't do spinning rides and circle vision shows makes me sick. I can do most of the rollercoasters though. Like your BIL I sometimes get a delayed reaction - I happened to me after BTTF at Universal and the teacups at MK.

I also am prone to MS when flying, and have been using ginger ale/ginger tablets for the problem. I actually rode RRC last year after taking ginger with no side effects.

I know I have a middle ear problem that makes me prone to MS, It was my doctor that recommended I used ginger, when I complained that the meds made me drowsy. I don't know if it would work for your BIL though, I'm no specialist and can only speak from personal experience.

The seabands though did not work for me at all

When I went on a cruise a couple of years back I used the transdermscop patch......... It really knocked me for a loop..... it made my eyes dilate and i felt like i was really drugged up fuzzy you know................
I really never had much motion sickness but would'nt take that patch again...

I'm sure it has different effects on different people but this trip i would actually like to remember the fun i had and not be so sleepy........

My doctor says Bonine is a good option but i spent the money for this gadget.

Good luck! :bounce:

Another vote for Bonine. Actually, I used a generic (got it from Sam's $ 5 or $ 6 for 100 (you have to ask the pharmicist for it), they were half the strength of Bonine so I took two. I took it every day a good while before going on rides.

It worked like a charm, I never got motion sickness which I have experienced before on RNR and Thunder Mountain. I even threw caution to the wind and rode MS, did not get sick, just anxious. I am done with that one. I have no interest in rideing teacups, star tours or body wars so I did not attempt these.

This med does not sedate me but apparently some people do have that problem. Best to test it out before your vacation, Just my opinion.

Hope it works for you too.

Thanks for all the great advice everybody! Sounds like I'll tell him to give Bonine a try as it seems to get the best results for everyone! Thanks again! :wave2:
