I have developed motion sickness when I drive in the car now and I am not sure what to do about it. We took a 9 hour drive up to Maine and back and the whole time up and the whole time back I felt like I was going to throw up! It was an awful feeling.

Anyway, I remember reading that there was some sort of bracelet that you can wear to help with motion sickness. Has anyone had luck with one of the bracelets?

Or can someone please recommend some sort of medicinal aid? I just don't want to go through this again when we go to Florida.

Thanks,
Melissa

I believe if you speak to your pharmacist they will be able to direct you to the bacelets or have some good suggestions.(My Dad is a Pharmacist) We have used ginger capsules with our kids and they work very well and are natural and do not make you sleepy. Pepermint is also suppose to settle the stomach but I don't think it is strong enough for motion sickness. If youare really having a lot of trouble you may have vertigo and need to seeyour DR. Good luck!!

Bonine also works very well for me; I also tried Dramamine but that made me very, very drowsy and it did not sit well with my stomach; I tried those bracelets before (borrowed from my mother so not sure where she got them) but they didn't work as well as I had hoped - good luck!!!

I got a prescription from my GP for the Transcope Derm Patch. This is a circular patch that you place behind your ear (most people won't even see it), and 1 patch lasts for 3 days.

Bonine doesn't usually do much for me, and Dramamine knocks me out.

Dh and I returned from our first cruise in June (Hawaii - wow). I am extremely prone to motion sickness. Cars, thrill rides, boats bother me lots (ok in planes unless it is really rough). I was prepared with everything. pressure bands, battery wrist bands that shock you, dramamine, bonine and transderm scope patches. The patches worked great. If the seas were extremely rough (and they were a couple of days) I would supplement with the bonine. Also at the end of the 3 days that the patch is good for it would not work as well and I would supplement. I would have been one sick puppy without those patches. They were great and I had NO side effects. Bonine was very helpful too and DH even took a few of those on the really rough days. He is never motion sick (until those rough days).

An inexpensive and effective alternative to name brand Bonine and Dramamine to is to ask the pharmacist for generic meclizine (it's the active ingredient in Bonine and non-drowsy formula Dramamine). It used to be a prescription drug but is now OTC. I use it all the time and it works very well for me. Bonine runs around $4 for eight tabs where I live; the last time I bought generic from Walmart Pharmacy I paid $10 for 100.

My mom wears Sea Bands (the wristbands) when she travels, and also takes Bonine if she needs it. Ginger ale helps, and also ginger snaps, and you can usually get ginger ale on flights.

Hope that helps!

Thank you very much for all of the suggestions. I think that I will probably head for the Bonine or derevitive thereof.

I am really awful-use seabands, bonine and if I still feel yucky I chew ginger candies. Always try drugs before you go ie. a week ahead as a trial run. I usually take bonine an hour -1-1/2 hours before boarding and it lasts the whole flight!

Also sit in the front seat. It's the smoothest part of the car.
