Hey all my dad and my brothers suffer from motion sickness. (they completely die after star tours, EE, ToT, etc..) Does anyone else here suffer from this as well? And is there medicine to help? Ive been reading a lot of different kinds on the web, but your suggestions would be better!

I get horrible motion sickness, and can't even ride in the back of a car. Sea-bands and ginger work for some people, but they do not work for me. The only thing that works for me is Bonine or Dramamine. I have to take them an hour before I start riding the rides (take it w/breakfast). Once I take Dramamine, I can ride anything, including Everest, and even the Hulk at Universal. Note-Even with the Dramamine or Bonine, I get sick on the Simpsons ride at Universal or if I try and ride Everest twice in a row. The rest of the rides I am good to go on, w/the medicine. Bonine and Dramamine come in a non-drowsy formula.:goodvibes Enjoy your trip.

Meclazine works pretty well for most people. It is sold over-the-counter in boxes with labels that read "Bonine" and "Dramamine" and many other names. Flip the boxes over to see which are meclazine. Make sure you don't have some condition with which you shouldn't take it and then get the cheapest meclazine you can find.

BUT, it makes almost everyone who takes it very sleepy.

Your choice - be sick or be asleep. :) Most people choose sleep.

Doctors prescribe meclazine and other meds. If it's really bad, see a doc.

I took some meclazine once because my Godson REALLY wanted to ride Mission Space and not ride it alone. Prayed it would help and figured I could fight through the tiredness. Fell asleep on Ellen's Energy Adventure...:headache:...and those seats weren't built for comfort.

I get a prescription for Scopace from my doctor. It works great for me. I can ride anything without getting motion sickness.

Nothing works for me except the medicated patches that go behind the ear. I've tried it all and this is the only thing that works at all. I get pretty bad cotton mouth using it, but it's worth it.

thanks for the replies guys! whats the thing that you put behind your ear? does it work better?

i get HORRIBLE motion sickness (when i got off mission: space a few years ago, the girls in the gift shop wanted to call the paramedics, i looked and felt so bad) and meclizine works wonders for me. meclizine is generic bonine, and bonine is much more expensive. you can get a bottle of 100 meclizine pills at a pharmacy counter (it's behind the counter, but no prescription is necessary, just ask for it) for about $5.00.

We take Bonine or Dramamine - non-drowsy. And it works great. Star Tours always makes me sick because it is so long. All of the other rides, I'm OK ... with some Bonine on board. :thumbsup2

I sometimes use a medication that leaves me with dry mouth such as the patch does. I use a spray called Oasis to help alleviate it. It's very small and portable. There's also a mouthwash.

For those of you who have tried the scopolamine patch, does it make you drowsy as does the meclizine?

Anyone try MotionEaze?

I have and I honestly can't say I see a marked difference in preventing motion sickness, but it does smell good and has a calming effect on me.

I will use any and all natural remedies available to me in conjunction with Bonine. There's no harm in taking ginger pills, using a wrist band, applying the MotionEaze AND taking Bonine. There's no dangerous interaction.

I have a cruise coming up in February and I am determined NOT to get sick!

I wish I could take Dramamine but even the non-drowsy makes me incredibly tired. On our trip, both dh and I did the sea-bands and the ginger gum. They seemed to help us but we did not do EE or RNRC or anything that involved spinning. I didn't want to take the chance. But I did fine on Splash, BTMR, the Carousal (don't laugh but that can give motion sickness), Dumbo.... But I wouldn't go run and ride the teacups anytime soon. I really would like to try EE, Soarin' and Mission Space but I'm scared I'll get sick.

I'm susceptible to motion sickness; though in the past, I’ve never had a major problem at WDW until last year. We rode Mission Space 3 times in one day and I had motion sickness for 2 weeks after the trip. I can handle the ups and downs, but the around in circles gets me. This year I plan to take Dramamine each morning before going to the parks. There’s an over the counter medicine that cost about $40 that works really well for motion sickness, though I can’t think of the name of it.

When my kids would get motion sickness, the pediatrician recommended Benadryl. Worked like a charm.:thumbsup2

I use meclizine but I take it at night before the activity that will make me sick (cruise, rides, etc.) so the drowsiness doesn't bother me and the medicine works all day the next day. The key is to take it BEFORE you get sick otherwise it takes much longer to treat yourself to get over the sickness rather than prevent it in the first place.

Ditto benadryl!!! I plan to take it when we go to the Studios for the Last Tour To Endor party -- every since getting pregnant with my dd and having horrid all-day-sickness until the day I delivered her, the Star Tours type rides always make me deathly ill (no idea why, its wierd), but I HAVE to ride it at least once more before it goes away :)

i get pretty baaaad motion sickness too. i've had to leave some 2d movie screens due to it.....

With that said, I have tried the following for motion sickess.

Meclizine (bonnine), drammamine, scopatch (scopolamine)

The drammamine and meclizine are the first line of defense. i take a meclizine before amusement park trips or even nothing at all. i'm okay as long as there are no inversions or backwards sections such as on EE. I of course, will never try mission space to say the least.

I reserve the scopatch as my 'big guns' for cruises and long flights. AND, at that, I only use it if i start to feel queasy. I can do a full cruise on meclizine and drammamine no problem as long as it's not a tiny cruise ship. The problem with the scopatch is that you have to wait for it to work (applying it a couple of hours prior) and the side effects, for me, are terrible. Dry mouth is fierce and it dilates your pupils so you get blurry vision.

I'm fine with taking meclizine (i'm not drowsy with it) and limiting what I ride. Sometimes, it doesn't matter what meds you have on board, you're still gonna puke......

I get motion sick on a porch swing - I've always been that way. I discovered dramamine non-drowsy when I took my first plane ride (to disney!:)) at 22 and have never looked back. I can ride anything on dramamine and also have taken two cruises. I have done ginger pills with a lot of success, too. I take two of the big horse pills in the morning, and two at night. This time, I'll probably couple that up with the dramamine so that I feel comfortable. Sometimes, very smooth coasters still make me woozy. I did dueling dragons once at Universal and felt a little bit icky so stopped. Then I did the Hulk :scared1: and was out of commission for about an hour with a slight, just under the radar naseua and dizziness. It was nothing compared to not taking it and I was able to 'talk myself down' from letting it get worse by taking an hour break from all rides (while my crazy boyfriend rode it 7 more times!!!) and having a nice frozen yogurt.
The only thing that I cannot do, regardless of how medicated I am, is anything that spins. I am pretty convinced that most motion sick people just can not do those rides, even with meds. Although dramamine made me sleepy (yes, even nondrowsy) it is a 24 hour pill and I got great advice to just take it right before bed every day of my trip, then ginger in the morning and night. That way I'm sleeping for the drowsiest part of the pill, anyway. Hope they have fun - you really can enjoy a theme park as a motion sickness sufferer if you have the right medication that works for you!

I am also prone to motion sickness. Even riding in the back seat of a car can do it to me. But, I love rollercoasters, go figure!:confused3
The ups and downs don't bother me, just the spinning. I bought the generic "motion sickness" medicine from Wal-Mart (equate brand, 100 tablets, 50mg of Dimenhydrinate) and while I can't remember how much the bottle cost exactly, I'm pretty certain it was less than $10.
I take these in the morning with breakfast (very important to eat!), and not have a problem the rest of the day. It did make me a little drowsy, but nothing bad.
I also find that I'm more prone to get sick if I haven't eaten recently or if I don't drink enough water.

What are these "Seabands" you speak of? Where can I get them, how much do they cost? Have they worked for you?
