I seem to remember a discussion not too long ago about a non-prescription medication to help with motion sickness... does anyone remember the name? Its not Dramamine, btw... thank you.

Hi I suffer from motion sickness too! The Best I have found is a generic product called
MECLIZINE HYDROCHLORIDE 25 MG
CHEWABLE TABLETS

$9.00 fo 100 tablets at Walgreens for 24 hours of relief.

DR. SAID to take them the night before travel[airplane, car, boat, train and Disney/Universal rides],if there is any drowsyness you will have slept thru it!!

And be ready to ride even Star Tours,Rockin Roller Coaster,Tower of Terror and Space Mountain!!

The brand name is Bonine. But, the generic, as stated above, is MUCH cheaper and the ingredient is exactly the same.

And, I suffer from motion sickness too - I take two every day while at Disney, and I can ride ANYTHING ANYTIME and it's wonderful!!

i use "drugfree" wristbands--they have a button (ball of plastic) that pushes on the pressure point in your wrist

you can buy them at Walgreens, Dominicks (walmart doesn't carry anymore) they cost between $6-$10.

I always carry them in my purse so I always have them with me.
I use them on amusement park rides, airplanes, sometimes on long car trips. (byw, I heard they work good for morning sickness and chemotherapy patients also)

the only problem i have with them is after a while usually (4-5 hours) of continuous use--wrists get kind of sore

I can't handle the dramamine--puts me right to sleep! I have 4 kids--NOT good for mom to be asleep on the plane ! Ha Ha!

Good Luck

I would sugest that you try out whatever brand you choose before your trip. My DS has a terrible time with motion sickness and we have used dramamine II(less drowzy) with wonderful results. I bought the meclizine at Wal-mart for a July road trip and DS did not do well at all. They made him much sleepier than the name brand. He was grumpy and worst of all still felt sick. Made a stop for the dramamine II and he was fine. Don't know why, but it's worth trying them before a WDW trip.

Thank you all so much for your advice... I would love to try Startours without worrying about getting sick. We leave tomorrow... I will let you know how it worked out. Thanks again!

Just to let you know.... Meclizine is only to be used by children 12 and up. You can get a prescription from your Dr for it. Much cheaper than buying it at the store. Prscript name is Antivert. Be sure and take it at least 1 hr prior to travel or rides. If you take after the fact... it doesnt work.

Just to let you know - when we went on DCL 2 years ago, my younger son was 9. I was concerned about giving him dramamine, so I checked with his pediatrician about motion sickness pills - he recommended Bonine. (Btw - turns out my younger son had no trouble with motion sickness, but the Bonine worked well for my DH and my other DS).

Here's my Bonine testimony :D DH and DS get motion sickness and don't really enjoy amusement parks. We tried dramamine last year when we were in WDW with no luck. Last week we were in Virginia and went to King's Dominion. I bought Bonine and they both took it and rode on EVERY roller coaster available. This was the first time they were able to enjoy the whole day and not have to stop because they were sick. It was wonderful! After saying all that, I agree with Jordan's Mom that you try it out before your trip to see what works best for you. :D

My DD's Ped. Dr. said she could take 1/2 a tablet of Meclizine at 5yrs old. Dr. said there aren't any side affects.

And to take it at bedtime so you sleep off any drowseyness!!

I have a reaction to almost all motion sickness medication. This is because they are all antihistamines.
I finally found a medication that is NOT an antihistamine. It is called scopolomine. (or something close to that) It is a small patch that you put behind your ear that lasts for 3 days. It is not cheap, however. About $30 for four patches.

I believe this is correct, but I may be way off.

We just bought some Draumamine II (or now known as Draumamine Less Drowsy) and the active ingredient is MECLIZINE HYDROCHLORIDE. So, check that out if you are interested, though the Generic sounds like a MUCH better deal.
