I'm sure this has been asked before, but since I can't seem to get the search function to work on DISboards, here goes: My last trip to Disney, I got sick on the roller coasters! This has never, ever happened to me before. I felt really queasy after each ride, and had to really take it easy. Once I had to lie down on a bench outside the ride. Sometimes the queasiness lasted all day. Gosh, I felt like such a loser. Anyway, does this happen to anyone else, and have you tried anything like dramamine? Does it work? Do you take it each day? I'm going in June and have a teenager that REALLY wants to ride all the wildest rides, and her little sister and dad won't go on those rides. I have never had a problem with those rides until that last trip. What's your advice?

Stay cool and hydrated. That should help with the motion sickness.

One purpose of the pre-shows like at RnR Coaster and Mission Space are to get you into the AC to cool down so that your body is better prepared to handle the thrills.

If you hadn't had a problem before it may have been a unique situation. Did you have any head congestion? Sometimes that affects the ears which affects our sense of balance making us feel sick with the whole movement/non movement conflict.

Otherwise try low doses of gravol (try the children's dose), stay hydrated and space those rides out a bit.

My sister gets queasy on rides too (and planes, and boats, and anything that moves). She takes non-drowsy Dramamine every Disney morning and she's absolutely fine. If she forgets to take it, her day is ruined. Give it a try, hopefully it will work for you too.

I took Dramamine each morning of our trip and I was mostly okay. ;)

If I felt myself getting queasy (like on Soarin' or the O'Canada show) I just looked at my feet.

Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Everest and BTMRR didn't bother me at all ~ well, Space Mountain did, but it didn't have anything to do with motion sickness! :rotfl:

I take a Bonamine pill every morning before the parks and again after lunch. I have never had a problem and they don't make me drowsy at all! The one ride that always makes me sick is the teacups...I don't even dare try them with the meds. But as for other spinny stuff (mission space!) and the buses themselves I have been A-OK! :goodvibes

On our first trip I gave me, dh, dd, and bil the generic form of dramamine which was supposed to be non drowsy. We were all in a daze all day, I felt like I needed toothpicks to hold my eyes open. We took the boat to beaches and cream for lunch that day and we all fell asleep on the boat. Even after the boat nap we were still exhausted. It seems others have taken the real dramamine non drowsy no problem so maybe it's just the generic brand but never again will I use that stuff.

I took a non drowsy dramamine everyday before I left for the parks. I also made sure to have a little something in my stomach (granola bar, yogurt etc) and I rode all the coasters with no problems. I am usually prone to motion sickness, and this helped me.

I used Bonamine last trip with good results too..and after riding Space Mountain, ThunderRailroad, Splash Mountain, Dinosaur, Primevel Whirl, TOT (my favorite) and EE, the only one I had trouble with was EE. Last trip I felt queasy after Aerosmith RR so I didn't chance it this time and I doubt I would ever do Mission Space-even the non spinning side. I rode Soarin at DL and was fine on that.

My middle son used to get 'green' just talking about riding the rollercoasters. He wanted to go on so bad so we tried Bonnine and it worked very well for him, no drowsyness at all and he only had to take it once in the morning. Now he rides every ride in the park and his favorite is space mountian- he once rode it 15 times in one evening!

Bonine Bonine Bonine! I very RARELY endorse anything... but BONINE is the BEST!! I've taken Dramamine since I was a kid (motion sickness seems to run in my family). It would always knock me out and make me CRANKY :headache: . I tried Bonine for the first time before 2 Disney trips ago, and SERIOUSLY it works GREAT. I took one little pill every morning of my trip and was good for the day! I could go on Space Mountain, and then go eat a burger afterwards! I was even able to go on EE-- which if I hadn't taken Bonine, I would have been a dizzy mess :sad2:. I've heard of the Seabands and the Ginger tablets- none of those work for my mom so I won't even test it. I swear by BONINE!! :thumbsup2 I got it at my local Giant Eagle, but I'm sure you can find them anywhere. They're small chewable raspberry flavored (ok, kinda gross really) tablets in a small blue box. I would chew one with my breakfast in the morning, and then I could do ANY ride. Except for RnRc... I'm too scared to do that one :upsidedow

I had this same question last year as I am prone to motion sickness as well. First of all, I have tried everything. Dramamine, even the non drowsy, made me drowsy and cranky. Bonine worked, but I always felt a little "off" throughout the day. I can't explain it.

On these boards, someone said they had seen the "Myth Busters" show do an episode on motion sickness. So, I looked it up online and sure enough I found it. They found that GINGER was the most effective at preventing motion sickness.

So, this past December I took some crystalized ginger with us in the backpack. I took it before Test Track, Everest and BTMRR. I had no issues at all. Now, I would never ever get on the teacups or mission space no matter what I have taken. It is just not worth the risk for me.

Anyway, it tasted gross IMO but it was worth it! Good luck:goodvibes

I like ginger too because you can eat it even if you've already taken Dramamine or Bonamine. I use bonamine but there were some rides I'd also eat a little ginger afterwards..just to settle things. It didn't take much to quell an upset tummy.

You can get ginger in gel caplet form, even at Walmart in the herbal section of the pharmacy. You don't taste it going down, but sometimes when you burp, but not too strongly :goodvibes

Since I don't care to take any Meds if I don't have to--
I purchased a:

Relief Band Explorer for Motion Sickness/Nausea.

Used worldwide by pilots, fishermen and sailors.
The relief band can also be safely used to treat morning sickness and
nausea associated with chemotherapy.

I bought mine on Ebay.

The only Drug Free FDA cleared relief for motion sickness.
Relieves nausea and vomiting with an electronic pulse to the
underside of the wrist.

Does not cause drowsiness or drug-like side effects.

Can be used before or after symptoms begin.
Does not interfere with food or drink.

Provides fast relief.

Good Housekeeping seal approved product.

I love it so much that I purchased 3 (one for each of my family).
My Sister has also purchased one after using mine (travels alot for work
and even the Non-Drowsy Meds made her Sleepy)
She loves it also--No side effects.

I don't get queasy I get dizzy now. One kind person told me as we get older...older I am just 42!! that dizziness can occur.
Has anyone else had this problem? I love to ride the rides, but now I get off the coasters and may have a headache or just don't feel right. I have tried the Bonine and can't say it worked. I wonder if ginger would help?

It really bothers me to ride once and then say 'that's enough for me" I am not afraid..well except ToT I hate that ride

I'm like that. I'm 45 and I get more "discombobulated" than anything else. I suffer from migraines so I am very careful about going on rides that I think will give me a headache. The bonamine and ginger do help me...but I don't take anything for granted anymore and I try to keep myself as healthy as I can..especially when I'm on vacation. Hence, I make sure there is some protein in my breakfast and I don't overeat at meals. I can't drink alcohol even if my life depended on it (instant headache)! I get a good nights rest,
and try not to sleep in too late-though I'm not a morning person at all!! And, I take enough supplements to choke a horse! (Dr.'s orders)
Growing older has it's drawbacks!

PS-I love TOT, but won't ride EE or Aerosmith RNR again..ever!

Relief Band Explorer---Has also helped me with Bad Headaches.
It's the best thing--so glad I purchase one!!!
So worth it-a good investment.
It uses batteries-which can be replaced whenever they are dead.
I've been using mine for almost 1 year now--will never go back to
meds ever again.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw your post...that would be my first guess, since you've never had a problem before.

My recommendation too, and I've tried everything on the market, including the prescription TransdermScop (gives you dry-mouth) Dramamine (doesn't do a whole lot) ginger pills (Zero effect) wrist bands (also zero effect) and various prescriptions and OTC pills. Take some with you, but I'll bet that it was a one time experience. OP, did you have a head cold/bad allergies that trip?
