Dh can do all log flume/coaster type rides, but gets motion sick on spinny rides (teacups) back and forth motion (like the swinging pirate ships you see at fairs) and simulator rides (think star tours). We are going to Universal/IOA this trip and would like to know what he should avoid so not to ruin his/our day.:thumbsup2

Stay away from The Simpsons, Cat in the Hat, MIB, Storm Force Accelatron and possibly Spiderman...if he doesn't like rides that spin or simulator rides. He should be OK for everything else.

What a bummer for him. I would avoid Cat in hat(spins to story), MIB(spins but fun), Simpsons(simulator spinning sorta), Jimmy Neutron(simulator no spinning), and Storm Force(teacups). Might want to avoid Spiderman too it does spin and is in 3D but not a constant spinning ride so idk.

I forgot about Jimmy Neutron but there are stationary seats if he wanted to ride it.

OP, has your DH considered dramamine or bonine for his roller coaster/spinning rides??

I take one dramamine and I can even do Rock N'Roller coaster!!! :thumbsup2 I have horrible motion sickness issues but I find I can do allot with the dramamine....I hate being that way and it is always so disappointing for me that I always feel I cannot do that particular ride. Just did the Matterhorn at DL as well as Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin!! No problems at all.

He can do Roller coasters no problem at all:confused3 From EE to RnR, but simulators and spinning get him all :scared: :crazy2: ....no amount of Dramamine can help him with tea cup like rides but maybe for the simulators? He literally was GREEN after riding the swaying dragon ride at a local amusement part. He had to sit in the mist tank drinking ginger ale for 20 min. I had heard the saying of people turning green, but never really saw it until then....I don't mean a slight hint I mean
He took dramamine on a whale watch last summer and made it about 3 hours into it before he was chumming over the edge:rolleyes2

Thanks for all the advice, I have a book that describes the rides and have bookmarked the pages for the ones mentioned so he can decide.

Oh..ok..sorry about your DH, it really is so upsetting. Well you know what I actually do....I go to YOUTUBE and type in the ride, be it DL, WDW, Universal and then watch it myself. There are soooo many people that go on all these rides and videotape them and then put them on YOUTUBE.

I also "time" the ride to see if I think I can handle a 3 minute roller coaster ride etc etc.

I can do things like SplashMountain because it literally is seconds going down that last steep chute. Space Mountain NO WAY. I just watched BTMRR at DL on YouTube and I think I am going to do that Sunday when we go.

I have been to Universal/IOA many times and did not even know there were that many rides that SPIN because I avoid them UNLESS totally pressured by my family!

I swear by dramamine. I can ride multiple coasters with it. One without it.

Has he tried those natural magnetic remedies?

Ummm yeah on the above post about the whale watch and chumming, :rotfl: he had not only taken dramamine but also had the magnetic bracelets on...

We do complement each other though, he can walk around on any height, and it doesn't phase him, and I can't go more then 3 rungs up a ladder before I get rubber legs. :scared: Though rides that are in constant fast motion and high up I do ok with...but things slow like dumbo not happening:sad2:

Love all the thoughts and advice....if anyone has anymore thoughts please let me know....he will want to do these against better judgement, so if something might work......

This may or may not be related, but I use SeaBands. You can get those at any Walgreens/CVS. I don't need them for plane trips or any of the rides at Universal or Disney. But when it comes to boats on the ocean or carnie (fair) rides, they're a MUST.

I highly recommend the Bonine as well. I used it at Disney last year after reading about it on the boards and it worked great. I, too, get sick on spinny and simulator rides and I had no problems at all!!

According to the Universal Rider's Guide, these rides should be avoided by guest's suffering from Motion Sickness:

Islands of Adventure:
The Cat in the Hat (spins you around)
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish (the fish go up and down depending on how you manuever it)
High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride
Jurassic Park River Adventure (water ride in a large boat)
Pteranodon Flyers (two-seater that flies you above Jurassic Park, turns are jerky)
Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls (flume ride, he might be able to ride it)
Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges (water ride in a raft that can spin around)
Storm Force Accelatron (tea cup ride, sort of)
Doctor Doom’s Fearfall (sort of a outside version of tower of terror)
The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man (3D ride that spins you)

Universal Studios:
Shrek 4-D (this ride has stationary seating)
Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast (this ride has stationary seating)
Disaster (subway train that gets bounced around a lot)
JAWS (water ride on boat)
FEAR FACTOR LIVE (not quite sure why though, this is a show)
MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack (spins you around a lot)
E.T. Adventure (mostly jerks you around, you're on a bike, sort of sharp turns)
TERMINATOR 2: 3-D

I left out the roller coasters because I read on your posts that he can handle roller coasters. Hope this helps.

Lol. Those are all the rides that move.:rotfl:

I know, it really stinks if you suffer from motion sickness. She did say her DH can handle roller coasters though. IMO, those are the best rides anyway. I really only ride Hulk, Dragons, and Mummy. Sometimes MIB, just depends on the wait and if Single Rider's is open. Mummy's single riders queue is almost always open.

This year, we got smart and brought along the Dramamine. My DH is the exact same way. Teacups, spinny cups, disney's Mission space, any spinny ride leaves him miserable.

We were able to ride Jimmy Neutron 1st thing in the am with Dramamine and still go on to ride all day after that.

Normally that ride w/o dramamine has him sweating and refusing to ride for the rest of the day.

It's always open. If it appear closed, just ask the PA out front. They'll gladly let you in.

Single riders @ ROTM + slow season = good chance of riding ALONE on a railcar = very trippy experience.

A warning about the Jimmy Neutron fixed seats- these are in the first row so you're sitting in front of this huge screen which can be disorienting. My kids/DH looooove this ride. I usually do one ride and then would sit in the fixed seats. I think now I'll just head into the 'waiting area'.
