motion sickness and FJ?

We asked when we were there. I saw the sign and thought of my husband (who wasn't with me on this trip...it was just the girls!). My hubby is 6'4" and I thought he would have been less than impressed if he wouldn't have been able to ride because of his height...its normally the other way around.

do they have a sample chair at the entrance to the ride that you can sit in to see if you fit?

Forbidden Journey.. THE BEST RIDE IN ORLANDO.. or so I have heard!!! I suffer from motion sickness.. I cannot ride the Simpsons... and I get a bit queasy on Spidey.. but my wife has secured some medication for me.. for our upcoming trip to USF... and I WILL GIVE IT A SHOT AT LEAST ONCE NO MATTER WHAT!!!!

I just have to try it.. I've heard that it is simply too good a ride to miss... so wish me luck!!!

And Yes FJ is in the top 10 most motion sickness inducing rides ever.

Especially if you have positional vertigo. I am hoping to do the Epley Maneuver enough to temporarily cure myself long enough to actually enjoy the ride lol

I didn't like Spiderman at all! It didn't make me feel sick, it was just loud and confusing. Interesting to read different opinions...

To be honest, I don't remember about the chair, but I do remember the maximum height measuring stand.

wow - i've never seen that before for any ride...
they should also have that for dragon challenge, because clearly you can't be tall on that one either (DS and DH learned that little lesson the very hard way)...

Really.. you think so??? I like the Spidery ride.. it is awesome, but from what I've heard.. FJ is THE BEST...

Oh well.. in about three weeks (hopefully if we don't get flooded out), I'll be know for myself...

when it first opened, i read that there was a maximum height limit, but now i don't see any mention of that...
i say that because my husband and son, who can ride any thrill ride on the planet, both became ill when they rode dueling dragons (AKA dragon challenge) a few years ago...

FJ made him sick as a dog last Oct, but he loves Dueling Dragons, Simpsons, Mummy, etc. He also has done Body Wars, Star Tours, the orange side of Mission Space, Tower of Terror, Tea Cups, Storm Force Accelatron, and all the coasters at both WDW and Universal (except RRR which seems to always be broken down where we're over there). The only amusement park ride to ever give him any problem is FJ, which I think is funny since I've it ridden multiple times in a row using single rider line and never had a problem with it, whereas some of the rougher/faster coasters and dropping rides that he loves I won't do.

It seems like FJ is one of those rides you just have to try yourself since everybody's body reacts differently on it.

DS and DH can ride absolutely everything, including multiple rides on the throw up side of mission space...
they never get sick from any ride.....except for dueling dragons....
that one took them down hard...

i really don't understand why universal builds rides that have such height issues......we've never encountered that elsewhere....
so weird that it's designed to leave tall people out in the cold that way..

i wonder if they've added a warning to the dueling dragons coaster...
there was no warning when we were there a few years ago...
as i said, the moment DS and DH sat down on the ride, they wondered about it...
they immediately saw the head support was too low for them, but they figured it didn't matter....after all, there hadn't been any sort of warning sign so they figured it didn't matter...
and boy did they pay the price for that....
DH was very ill for the rest of the day.....DS was very ill for about an hour and then moderately ill for the rest of the day....

clearly they should have gotten off the ride the moment they saw that the head support was too low for them.....now they know how important that head support is and they'll (hopefully) never make the same mistake again...

That is kinda weird. Your family must be extremely tall. Dragon Challenge is a standard inverted B&M coaster with standard inverted B&M seats that are used around the world at tons of theme parks. You're the first person I've heard say that the headrests were too low. There are special rows for larger people if need be.

YES....I am 58 years old and have been a fan of amusement parks all my life and I got extreme motion sickness on Forbidden Journey and was MISERABLE. The next day I took Dramamine and it was a little better.

Personally, it was not my favorite experience at WWHP. I like the other rides better and the Castle tour.

I recall them having to change the Mission to Mars ride at WDW a few years back because it was too intense for some folks and the last time I went there was a less intense version. I suspect they may have to do the same with Forbidden Journey.

I seriously doubt it. The ride systems are completely different. MtM uses multiple spinning ride vehicles, for lack of a better term, which could be configured differently to result in the Green and Orange sides. FJ is one big dark ride. I suppose they could tone down the movement of some of the benches, but as I've pointed out before it generally isn't that portion that makes people sick. It's the relative lack of actual motion while only your eyes tell your brain you're chasing wizards on broomsticks doing crazy maneuvers in the simulated portions.

DW got sick the first time, but then she learned to keep her head against the headrest and only look where the vehicle directed you to look. She did much better after that and rode it many times. She gets sick very easily, including in freeway traffic.

What is meant when you say there is a lurch? I'm fine with the motion sims that I went on my last trip to WDW about 10 years ago such as Body Wars and Star Tours but I don't like roller coasters or any ride that has a hill or drop. I want to try this ride but I'm nervous.

There are no hills or drops.

I get very motion sick as well and debated as to ride or not. I finally chose to ride and just as Hermione uses the "floo powder" (the very beginning!) I closed my eyes, peeked just after the dementors where Ron and Harry are flying over the castle roof and swoop down. That was totally enough for me! I just kept them closed and felt fine after but really didnt experience the ride. I made the choice because I didnt want to feel miserable all day. Having said this, the actual motion was REALLY fun, especially the turning almost upside down and I think if I could handle the visuals it would be one I would ride again and again. Just throwing this out there to any of you who were wondering about the closing your eyes and if it helped.

Ohhh...this is scaring me. I want to do every ride once, but.....I do get motion sick
Can't do Star Tours, Spidey, Mission Space-Orange, Body Wars....haven't tried Simpson's (haven't been since 2007....should I skip it?)

YES... you sound just like me.. I would recommend you skip it, or prepare to close your eyes
