I am leaving in just a couple of days and have never ridden Soarin'. Is it the type of ride you can get motion sickness on?

I would say no....I get motiom sickness and had no problem on Soarn'...try taking ginger pills before you start the day.....they work wonderfully and they are all natural!!!
Have a great trip!!! :thumbsup2

I love this attraction. I went on it twice last year. The first time I rode I had no problem. The second time I went on I did get quesy (sp). I normally don't get motion sickness. I can read in a car without getting sick, unlike many people I know. Even though I felt ill after riding it last year, I can't wait to do it again.

I tend to get very motion sick so before going on any rides I took Dramamine. I didn't have any problems on Soarin but if I had not taken the Dramamine I think I would have. The ride makes you think you're gliding through the air and I could feel the dips and swoops in my stomach throughout the ride. But the ride was AWESOME! We rode 3 times and it's on our must do list if we go back again.

The seats remain completely stationary for the majority of the ride. You are in a theater-type setting, The seats rise off the ground and then lock into place so that you can get a clear view of the "movie screen" You then sit and watch the movie of soaring over some very beautiful scenery. There are also a few added sensations such as smell and breeze to assist in the feeling of soaring. I know I have not done a very good description here but you can get the idea. If you do get queasy just close your eyes. As the seat is not moving it should help ease thefeeling.

I did get "sensitive" to the motion - and as long as I looked to the side and got acclimated "we are NOT moving" I did ok!! I felt great afterwards, and did the ride 3 or 4 times during our stay!!

I too get motion sick, I can't do Star Tours, Mission Space or spinning rides, but I loved Soaring, I didn't feel sick at all, I loved it, we did it last year when it first opened and I can't wait to do it again....only 2 more sleeps!! :thumbsup2

I get car sick very easily, but have never felt ill after a theme park ride... until Soarin.

I felt a little yucky for a few minutes afterward, but it wasn't too bad. I rode a few more times with no problems.

Either they have changed the ride since last summer when it opened, or we did not ride the same attraction. Once our seat was raised, it was never completely stationary. The movement was not dramatic but the seats do move.

For the OP, the actual movement of the ride is not what bothers people its the visual aspect. I have never had motion sickness, never been bothered by heights, never had a roller coaster affect me and this ride made me want to pass out and to get off the ride as soon as possible.

So it is really hard to advise if it will affect you.

I can only say that i Opted out on this ride becuase i get motion sickness very easily. I didn't want to spend the rest of the day feeling sick to my stomach. It was a decsion i had to make...the possibilty of feeling sick all day or not going on the ride.. My family FP it and i didn't have to wait that long for them to come out. I had fun people watching!

Speaking for myself, I never felt even the least bit queasy on this ride, and frankly wished there was a little bit more movement with the seats to complement the visual stimulation.

But then, I'm a private pilot, so I get into some stuff that might make others feel a little sick. :)

I guess it depends on how prone to motion sickness you are. While pregnant I went on Soarin' and felt nothing (although if you're also prone to vertigo, I would think the feeling of sitting up high is going to make the problem worse) but felt terrible on It's a Small World!! Honestly, who gets queasy on that?

Now, Mission Space is a whoooooooole other ball of wax. :crazy2:

I do get motion sickness on Star Wars & Rockin Rollercoaster. I had no problem on this ride. I liked the feeling of the breeze blowing in my face. We had done it in California Adventures several years ago & couldn't wait for it to arrive at WDW.

I really must beg to differ. I am the motion sickness "KING" Trust me. While the visual effect and the other sensory effects are quite vivid, the seats do not move. It only seems that way. As another poster said, you can look to the side @ the wall of the theater and see there is no movement and use that to reacclimate yourself. The only reason there are seatbelts is because the seats rise off the ground and the visual effects make you lean from side to side.

The seats do move along the horizontal axis of the ride carriage. Whether or not they yaw along the vertical axis, I do not know. But I do remember looking sideways toward the wall and seeing a slight tilt forward or backward along the horizontal axis at times. This can happen whether or not the seats are locked.

Editing to add: any sort of yaw about the vertical axis would be about impossible given the construction of the seat rows (joined together). Any yaw that might provide for a realistic turn for someone on the right, would look skewed to someone on the left. But slight movements along the horizontal axis do happen in the middle of the ride, in much the same way (but in much smaller increments) as the way the seats move up to their ride heights in the beginning.

The CM at the ride described it as just like a granny in a rocking chair. I think any IMAX can make you a bit queasy whether the ride is stationary or not, for example the China IMAX made me feel a little nauseous at times. That said, I did not get queasy with this ride, maybe because I was enjoying it so much that I ignored my stomach. If at all possible do not miss this ride! Nancy

Does it make any difference in which seat you sit in - 1st, 2nd or 3rd row? I know that the 1st row goes up the highest.

If you can get the front row it's the best. I hear that you may be able to se feet in the back rows. We were in front center. Nancy

I too get a little quesy on this ride - particularly near the end when it is night time, and you see lots of car lights.... I tell DD to tell me when we get to Disneyland, and then I am okay. I also have problems with Body Tours, Star Tours, Wild Arctic at SW and the IMAX type movies - even France with the wide screen I had trouble with in some parts on Friday....I have problems on the Tea Cups and Carousels too - but not cars, boats(for the most part) or planes!

At least with Soarin I know the place where I have problems and just close my eyes!

I love Soarin!

I occasionally get a little queasy on this ride. I will never ride Mission Space and I know I can't ride the teacups. When I get queasy I just close my eyes for a few seconds and it passes. I sometimes get this way on Star Tours but I do the same thing. Since you aren't spinning and it is just the visual cues that make me sick - closing my eyes does the trick. I just love this ride and wouldn't miss it for the world.
