Do they do anything special on mothers day in the parks? We're going 5/12-5/14 as I will be in FL for a conference 5/16-5/20 and I just realized it will be mothers day on 5/14 the last day we're there. Its a Mother/Daughter trip which works out. Just curious if there's anything special we could be doing.

They have been known to hand out a flower to mothers.

Nothing major changes in park activities.

We were at POFQ and they had cute arts & crafts at the resort dining hall for the kids to make. :)

I have been there for Mother's Day many times. Sometimes they give moms a flower at the entrance. The CMs wish moms a Happy Mother's Day left and right all day long.

They have been known to hand out flowers to all women who look like they are of a child bearing age. And sadly, there are many flowers on the ground just inside the park gates.

That is sad :( . Are they corsage type flowers with a stick pin to put them on or just a flower they hand you? Not sure I want to be carrying around a flower while trying to ride, but I wouldn't just throw it away either.

We were suppose to be heading to the airport super early on that Sunday, but DH and DS realized that it was Mother's Day and so we added another night to our trip. Spending Mother's Day with my most favorite people in my most favorite place :cloud9:.

OP, I've been reading that various places may offer special Mother's Day brunches, maybe that is something you would be interested in. You have to watch for details, I think they are released just shortly before.

It seems inherent human nature to put no value on anything that is "free."

If WDW had decided to SELL these same flowers for $4.50 each, under a sign that said, "Mothers Only, Please."

We would be reading reports of guests being deeply "deprived" due to not getting a flower just because they had not had a child.
The flowers would become a MUST-HAVE premium trophy!

I have only been to WDW on Mother's day once and they handed out a single stem flower to each woman that looked to be over a certain age. So, my sister and I just handed ours to our mom. It probably would have been better if they had handed them out as we left as by the end of the day, they were pretty beat even with us trying to be careful with them. We put them in some water back at the resort, but they only lasted a couple days.

I was trying to find a Mother's Day brunch for that day, but in 2010, there were no special brunches, just your normal breakfast/lunch meals. I booked HDDR for dinner instead and I think she quite enjoyed that.

One of my best park days ever was on Mother's day. The weather was perfect and the parks were empty. I was handed a single red carnation with the greeting "Happy Mother's Day". There was no pin or anything so the only option was to carry it around or throw it away. I don't remember how long I carried it but I did not throw it on the ground, I am sure of that. I can't remember what year it was but I know it was before I had any children and my oldest is now 14 so it has been a while.

We were there a couple of years ago on Mother's Day (my son, DIL and me) and stayed at AKV for a couple of nights. We arrived on Mother's Day so didn't go to the parks but I got a crown at the front desk. My son and DIL surprised me with a gift waiting in the room which included a wand so I was all set up. Still have both.

I wished they would have these brunches available at the 6 month mark when we are to make ADR's as my ADR's are already made... Of course I didnt even realize it would be mothers day until yesterday. If I didn't take DD I would be in a lot of trouble.... Luckily she talked me into taking her to WDW for a couple of days before my conference starts.

I agree, but like you it may not have done me much good to know ahead of time because we just added on that extra day when we realized it was Mother's day. At least this way if interested in booking we have the same chance as everyone else at booking :)

I was given a flower on the way into Epcot on Mothers' Day in 2015. :) I want to say it was a carnation. We had a PPO ADR at Akershus and they were already handing out the flowers at 8:00, which was nice.

They used to have photo ops at Epcot years ago pre photopass they used to mail them to you or give you a pass to get them printed at World showplace they haven't done that in a couple years and due to RL stuff we will be celebrating the week before anyhow

We were in the Magic Kingdom on Mother's Day several years ago. Seems like they gave us a pink carnation as we entered. The best present was how empty the park was that morning!

It doesn't have a pin to it because, well, people could use the pin for danger. So, it's a flower they hand to you and then you move on. Many people are like you (and me) and don't want to have the flower while riding so some just drop it on the ground because they don't want to think about it. I carried mine around all day and had it in my bag when riding. It wasn't in the best of shape after leaving the park but the petals dried up nicely a few days later and I had a momento of the day.

If they give me a flower I'll figure it out then, maybe bring my own pin, or even use a trading pin some way. Putting it in my bag might work, but I guess would be pretty squished. I will either do that or just not take the flower-I think it's too nice of a gesture to just throw it on the ground for someone to then have to come behind and clean up.
