We will be WDW during my mother's birthday - staying onsite.

Can anyone give me any suggestions to make it special??

BTW - We will have 2 children age (9-11) with us so it must be able to include them.

Thank you!

Welcome to the Dis!!!

If you are looking for a fun time, you could try the Hoop Dee Doo Revue at Ft Wilderness. If you arent familiar with it, it is a dinner show. You are served all you can eat fried chicken, ribs, and the fixins, and all you can drink beer, sangria, and soda. There are 6 actors who put on a show filled with corny jokes. They will make mention of birthdays, anniversaries & honeymoons.
Weve done it as a family with people ranging in age from 8 months-60 years and we all had a blast, and really enjoyed the food too.

What are looking for, nice restaurant, dinner show? What type of food do you like?

Hoop Dee Do Revenue is a good suggestions, thats always a good time.

I really want this to be more for my mother than for the rest of the group (though I don't want to go anywhere that my children won't be welcomed).

Since we already have a character meal scheduled for the children I don't think a show is necessary but something special for my mother is what I am looking for.

As for food choices: nothing exotic

I would highly recomend the Afternoon Tea. We really enjoy it and it is different, but special. Your children are old enough to take as well.
We took my mom for her birthday and couldn't have enjoyed it more.

We had a mixed family trip last November ( me and DH, my brother and SIL, nephew, and SIL's awesome mom Shirl).

For Shirl's 60-something birthday, we had dinner at the Castle. My brother called ahead, and our table was decorated with ribbons and confetti. They brought her a special little birthday cake and a certificate signed by Tinkerbell. We all had a great time, including my nephew (3) who just had to meet the beautiful Cinderella.

Dinner at the Castle is wonderful for all ages. Altho it is not a character meal, Cindy and friends are usually on hand in the waiting area to greet guests. Also, if you time it right, you can experience Wishes from inside the Castle (way cool, because you hear and "feel" the fireworks launching from the building), PLUS you can leave MK after closing. Awesome!

I hope your Mom has a magical birthday!

This sounds perfect. How did your brother set this up?? What did he ask for and if I may ask - what did it cost??

Thank you!

All he did was call WDW Dining, mention that we had a special Mom/Grandmom with us who was celebrating a birthday, and ask for a birthday dessert added to our PS#. The decorations and certificate just appeared. It is best to discreetly remind your server of any arrangements as soon as you are seated, because things can easily be overlooked when they are busy.

DH and I picked up the tab, and there was no additional charge for the "extras."

You must be sure to stop at City Hall in the Magic Kingdom, to get your mom a "It's My Birthday" Pin. She'll feel so special as CM's tell her happy birthday all day long!

I don't know where in the other parks to pick up this pin.. maybe someone else will post and let you know.

A birthday at the world! how special!!
