Mother/son dance son for wedding????

I was at a wedding and the groom danced with his mom to the song by the Backstreet Boys called the Greatest Fan. It had everyone crying. I wish I could post the words, but it is beautiful tribute to a mother.

A Song For My Son - By Mikki Viereck

I don't know where
The time has gone
Since those little boy days
Doesn't seem that long
Yet here you are
It's your wedding day
And there's one thing darling
I'd like to say...

CHORUS:
Be kind, be sweet
Be a gentle man
Care and share
And always be fair
And remember though you now
Have taken a wife
You will always be my son
My Loving son

You filled my life
With so much joy
As I watched you grow
From that little boy
Now I'll try not to cry
As you walk away
And just once more darling
I'd like to say...

REPEAT CHORUS

Be kind, be sweet
Be a gentle man
Care and share
And always be fair
And remember though you now
Have taken a wife
You will always be my son
My Loving son

I think this song is PERFECT. It is the one I would have chosen( if I had done the picking) for DS's wedding dance... He chose the song though ;)

11 years ago my mom and I danced to Louie Armstrong "What a Wonderful World"

I like this one.:thumbsup2To be honest I can't even remember what song we used at our wedding. I think it was "My Funny Valentine" or "Someone to watch over me" as I am a huge Chet Baker fan.:confused3 Since I was one of those brides that had alcohol at my wedding the details are a little fuzzy.:rotfl2:

Buddy of mine danced to Guns & Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine" with his mom. It brought the house down...

We used You'll Be in My Heart from Lion King

Some others we had on the list were

Some Where Out There by Linda Ronstat

Can You Feel the Love Tonight by Elton John

and my personal favorite, Back Where You Belong by 38 special (He was back from Iraq to stay which is why I wanted that one)

Oh my goodness... I am all sniffly and teary here too, and I don't even have a little boy. I hope I do someday. These are all beautiful choices.

My son wanted to surprise me with the song choice for our mother/son dance at his wedding. My tears flowed when I heard the opening notes to "Baby Mine" (dumbo). That was the lullaby I used to sing to him when he was a baby. He chose the Bette Midler version. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

I danced with my DS to You Raised Me Up by Josh Groban. If you do a search you will find songs written just for this occasion. The one I really wanted from this web site made me cry everytime I read it, I think it was called The Man You've Become. I didn't want to cry at DS's wedding so I picked the one I did. You can read the words and listen to the songs on this web site. Unfortunately, I don't remember the web site address. Good Luck and pass the tissues, please.

My older DS chose "You Are the Sunshine of my Life" which is DH's & my "our song"!
As if I weren't crying enough!

Rod Stewart's "Forever Young" came out in 1988, the year my second son was born. I used to sing that to him when he was little, and he grew up to be a Rod Stewart fan (in fact, he and I saw Rod in concert a couple years ago). Rod has recorded several versions of "Forever Young," the first one that is pretty fast in tempo, and then a live recording where it's much slower. Anyway, I'm pretty sure this is what my son and I will be dancing to in the event that he someday marries. :goodvibes

But I really am enjoying all the suggestions on here. I have an older son and have no idea what I'll choose for him as his "song" when he was little is "La Bamba." LOL!

Oh, forget it!! I'm full on crying now!! That is so precious that he chose a lullaby that you used to sing to him. I sang that to my daughters, too. Love the scene in that movie. :lovestruc

I danced with my Dad to "Because you loved me"- Celine Dion.

I think the words are perfect for a parent and child.
I also like the song Mama from Boyz to Men.

Of course "You Raise Me Up" is also a great song. I cry when I hear it because it reminds me of my kids.

I like "O Sole Mio" because it is basically "you are my sunshine" and I sang that song to my children constantly. Nothing cuter that your 2 year old singing O Sole Mio with you!:lovestruc

The last wedding we went to, the groom and his mother, danced to a special remix of her favorites from the 50's and 60's. She owns a dance studio and he has been dancing all this life. They had a blast out there.

I will add, that the remix started out with one of tear jerker songs, but it only lasted a couple of 8 counts before it broke into the good stuff. The brides side of the wedding were suprised at how good she can still move for a 61 year old. And he kept it totally a secret from her. She had no clue, what he had up his sleeve.

Full on crying mess. I actually had to get up and walk away from my PC because I needed to calm myself. that is the sweetest thing I have ever heard!!!!!! You did a fine job with your boy.

I have 2 boys and I dance with them a lot to whatever is on the radio. And I cry because I know someday I am going to be dancing with them at their wedding.

I have a song I sing to each kid that is "their song". I sing it to them each night before bed and also when they are sick or just need a snuggle. The come to me and say "mom, sing to me".

Older son is "You are my Sunshine" and younger son is "Somewhere over the rainbow". Although, younger son has decided he likes "Rock a bye baby" better and when I start singing the Rainbow song...he will say "NO SING ME BABY!!!"

My dad passed away 10 months before my wedding, and DH's mom was wheel chair bound (terminal cancer) at our wedding...so neither of us got to have that "traditional parent dance"...so it means even more to me that I do it at my son's weddings..

My dad and I danced to "Because you Loved me" by Celine dion.

At her show in Las Vegas she sang a remix of the song "If I could" and it's a perfect Mother/Son dance song...very mushy and touching.
