Day Three - August 8th
Continued.............
After dancing toes Maddie had twirled around with Mickey and Minnie though every song known to the little mice off we finally went to Cookies. Thank goodness because I was STARVING! Did I mention my throat and head were killing me?
I started at the fruit line and didn't stop until I had enough ribs on my pate to horrify a vegetarian! Maddie on the other hand...started complaining about all food, not some ALL. No to hamburgers (only 6 year old that will not eat them ever), nope, don't want hotdogs, nope, don't want fruit, nope nope nope. Did I mention my throat and head hurt? EAT CHILD OR GO HOME! Guess what? That actually worked. How she thought she would go home is beyond me but the mere mention of it sent her appetite up very nicely. I'll have to remember that next time as well.
We ate lunch, then ice cream, then cookies and more fruit. I think aside from breakfast this is one of my favorite meals. We talked about Serenity Bay. I am very fortunate that I have a very caring little girl who is always overly concerned that I am well occupied when she is off elsewhere. She was very excited for me about the "grown up beach." So when I was laughing and telling her how much I hated it she got very upset that I didn't get to do "my thing" and have fun like she did. Hummmmm idea!!!
"
I would LOVE to simply go back to the family beach get on the raft with you and relax in the water. No ropes, no other kids, not swimming, just hanging out with you in the water on the raft floating. What do ya think?"
"
I think that sounds good Mommy. We can do that. Let's go."
It was then that I think I heard angels singing.
Off to the family beach we went to grab the raft before anyone changed their minds. THIS - not a deserted pond with missing cabana boys and hammocks used for holding devices is MY idea of HEAVEN!!! I laid down on the raft on my back and Maddie got down at the bottom of it facing me. We just let the tide take us wherever it would and we stayed on it for likely an hour. It was so beautiful. I remembered doing this while she was napping on our last cruise but with her being older and us just being out there talking and laughing together without one single care in the world was one of the best parts of the day for me. I could have stayed there all day long had they let us. We watching fish swim around us. We watched other kids play and then the water took us to the very edge of the swimming point and I swear to you it was silent - you heard nothing and it seemed as though you were there completely alone instead of with 2,000 people. She never once complained or ask to do anything else. If I had not remembered that she wanted her hair braided we may very well still be there now.
She had been begging to have her hair braided. I had warned her it would probably hurt some and that it wouldn't last forever either. All it took really was seeing that her friend Katie had hers done and the deal was sealed - we were going to do it. So off we went.
Thankfully there was no wait we just walked right up she choose the style and beads...which thank God the lady was able to change her mind because originally Maddie chose 13 colors for the beads - 13!. The woman was able to narrow her down to only two.
It was only a few minutes under the umbrella in the nice shade where I was totally relaxed when we saw it. A huge nasty black cloud. Maddie just kept saying over and over, "
It's gonna rain. It's gonna rain." Ok - so she was right. The clouds opened, the rain came down and I did a mad sprint back to the family beach to grab our things. HELLO KELLY!!! You would think living at the beach I would recognize a SHOWER when I see one. I was running as if a monsoon was coming and when I got to our things it was totally dry again. Oh well. Nice exercise right.
Back to Maddie I went. When I got there the woman had about two braids in (told ya - I RAN!). Maddie stuck her arm out and began to squeeze the blood out of my hand. Hummmm.....I think it hurts. I tried so hard not to laugh. It was then that I reminded her how funny she thinks it is when I tweeze my eyebrows and cry. NOT too funny now being beautiful is it Princess of Pain!

Poor thing. I really did feel sorry for her and told her over and over we could just stop - no big deal. Nope - she was in for the long haul. A quitter she is not. When she was finished she looked so pretty and grown up with her hair pulled back. Yup - cried again. Here is when I really cried. I had told her I may not be able to get her hair done depending on how much $$ it was. Well, it ended up being $40 and she - my 6 year old daughter insisted on paying for it, "
because you did a lot too mommy." (Insert fainting and crying smilie here) Don't tell her - but I only let her pay for half of it.
After the braids were complete she was walking so high she was actually strutting. If you looked at the pictures, THAT would be when she began posing under the palm tree at CC. Oh yea - she's so shy! In the middle of snapping away a woman near by I guess had been watching us and came up to tell us we looked like we were having so much fun and wanted to know if I would like her to take our picture together under the tree, which she did. Then, I cried. I am just not used to people being so friendly kind and going out of their way so much I suppose. That doesn't really speak too highly of Myrtle Beach now does it?
After the picture taking session we were going to swim a bit more but......that cloud came back and brought friends with it! You know, before we left we were worried about TS Chris and the weather, but once we were there, even on CC, we couldn't have cared less how much it rained or when. We just packed up and got excited about going back to the ship and doing whatever we wanted. Which is exactly what we did. We even had a ball standing in line in the rain with another family who was so pissed off because people on the previous tram wouldn't put their kids on their laps so they could sit down. We had so much fun talking to them and laughing - we were already wet - who cares?
Back at the ship the line was HUGE! Picture the entire boat trying to embark at ONCE. They opened the other entrance at the back of the ship and Maddie and I hauled it up there. It seems she wanted to be FIRST NOW so when people started passing us running and got there first she screams, "RUDE RUDE RUDE."

Are you kidding me?? NOW the mood comes back??!! She was still ticked off when we were being scanned back on board. So much so that one of the officers noticed and ask her to step aside with him. Oh boy! This is gonna be good. He pulls her though the medal detector and makes it beep then says, "Yes, exactly what I thought. I need you to come with me." He then pulls her to the side with him takes out the wand detector and beings to scan her body with it. When it gets to her head he made that thing beep as though she were smuggling a VW Bug under her braids! I was about to wet myself laughing. He then says, "
Young lady (Maddie looking terrified),
you know what that means, (Maddie shaking her head no)
that means that you have medal in your head - that is why it's hard!" It beeps again. Maddie is FROZEN in place. "
The only way to decrease the size of it is to listen to your mother. Now are you going to listen?" Maddie begins to nod like a bobble head poodle. "
Yes sir." Those were her ONLY words.
After the medal head incident she was golden! We (ok - I) decided that I needed a BBC (remember - sore throat - headache) so we went by the bar on deck 4 whatever that was and then walked around the deck. We walked the jogging trail, we looked around at the lifeboats (hence the weird photo of them) sat in the comfy chairs you name it. Then we went up to deck 9 and did a little rain swimming (like I said, we were already wet!) and then headed back to our room.
Tonight was our second dining at Parrot Cay and we didn't want to miss it since we skipped it the night before for the Captain's Reception. After relaxing on the verandah for a bit (I LOVE that thing) we hit the shower and got ready for dinner. This was also Pirate Night so Maddie was more than ready to put on her costume especially now that she had "great hair."
After much 6 year old primping we were ready for dinner. We tried to get in line for Capt Jack, but THANK GOD she doesn't care about him so we were able to skip the hall winding line. Instead we went down for Mickey in his costume. We made Mickey and then went straight to Parrot Cay - I wanted to arrive first to have a little talk with our server John (who by the way had the personality of toast) about our table mates.
YEA!!!!!!! WE ARE FIRST WE ARE FIRST!!!! Damn! It's a round table! John came over and I ask him if the table in Triton's tomorrow night would be a 6 top or round. He said it would indeed be a 6 top as it was the previous night. Well, earn you tip John Boy - here it comes. I informed him that I WOULD NOT be placed across a table again from my daughter and that if we arrived and the seating was such I would be moved to a table for two. He assured me that he would direct the other family to specific seats the remainder of the cruise and that Maddie and I would be seated together.
(Insert kiss my tail smilie here!)
We were sitting down, Maddie perfectly looking like a Pirate and me now with the bandana and in they walk - the Stuffy Sticks. They walk over sit down and guess what - they looked SO out of place. They were all dressed up - no in costumes but dressy dressy. HUH??? That was LAST NIGHT! Not even an eye patch on the little boy. You would have to know Maddie to understand her facial expressions. She looked at me like, "What the hell were they thinking anyway."
Now, if you remember Miss Stuffy Stick didn't speak - AT ALL! NOT ONE WORD OR GLANCE the first night. Well, all of the sudden her mouth opens she looks at us and says (quite snotty), so how was dinner last night, WE dined at Palo's? Well TOUCH YOU with a firggin' glove lady! You're kidding me right? So now, I'm just over it. I think I'll just have fun with it. I responded, "
Well, it was absolutely wonderful but I'm afraid we didn't dine in Parrot Cay either. When we arrived back from Nassau we had an invitation in our cabin to dine with Captain John in a private party." SO SHOVE THAT stick woman!
Yea, it was evil but so was she the first night and when she said PALO...she said it as though she had dined at the White House and left us with scraps at McDonald's. She quickly shut up again - for awhile. Apparently a "private dinner with the Captain" impressed her for some pathetic reason. She began asking questions left and right when she found out we had cruised before (which Maddie was the one to point out) and I had a ball acting as though we were on the ship weekly. Evil yes, but I was just way over it all at this point.
I kept thinking at some point they would loosen up but never really. I did try to be nice asking them if they had seen the shows. Show - what show? Are you kidding me?? Oh well. Let's tried the kids. I started asking her son (who is Maddie's age - this should be a good thing!) if he was having fun and if he was going to go to graduation tomorrow night. Another stunned look of HUH? I gave up. At this point the photographer came over and ask if we wanted our picture. I immediately stood up and walked away with Maddie asking if they could take ours over there for the scenery - ya know - I bought that picture! After that it was time for the Pirate parade in the restaurant which not even the son participated in. I guess we are total rednecks because off Maddie went and I stood straight up to take pictures. After that we ordered dessert and bolted up to see the Golden Mickey's - which I was nice enough to tell them I thought they would really enjoy especially the kids.
We LOVED LOVED the Golden Mickey's. Maddie was in complete awe. She remembered nothing about it so it was like the first time for her and I was able to just watch her expressions, her face light up and the excitement and wonder in her eyes....yup sat there and cried in the dark like a baby. The theater was some of my favorite times with her because we were able to just sit and be quiet and I was able to watch her excitement so closely I could see her jump! I was in Heaven again.
After the show we headed up to deck 9 for the Pirate Show. Maddie was exhausted but I knew there was no missing this at all - for either of us. Camera in hand we made it and guess where we were. Yep - front and center stage baby!!! YEA!!! Maddie won't miss one thing!
The show started and up behind her was Katie and her mother Anna. So now Maddie also had her friend to enjoy it with. Even better! A few minutes into the show the worst happened to me. MY CAMERA DIED!!! NOOOOOO!!!!! Oh well, can't fix that now we would loose front and center position. (I ask some friends from the Dis to send me some photos and Anna's mother said she would too so I'm find now.)

Maddie is so tired there is no dancing to be done by her right now. The girls on stage are dancing away and one actually becomes ticked because Maddie is just standing there. This is the only time I almost socked a cast member. She actually bent down to Maddie and told her she HAD to getup and dance - she did not have a happy face either. Ummmm, NO. YOU HAVE to dance. She can sing Christmas Carols and go to sleep on the deck if she wants. Two minutes later it was all good because Maddie's boyfriend appeared on stage. There is one performer who had played with her all week. He is the one at the Sail Away Party who called her Dales Sister and teased her about her 4 missing teeth. Maddie was in love!

He played with her again - now she was up and dancing! See lady - it's the RIGHT motivation that works. Anyway then her night was made even better because she was wearing a load of bracelets (from Tink of course) that glow in the dark (thank you Dis). He stops dancing, bobs over to her and takes one off her arm and puts it on his. Then goes back to dancing and blows her a kiss. Oh my God the waterworks....I was stupid crying!!

And did I mention MY CAMERA WAS DEAD!!!!!!
The characters came out, Mickey flew, there were fireworks, you know the drill...but none of that was as much fun to Maddie and I as the boy on stage dancing with HER then taking her bracelet to wear and blowing her a kiss from stage. Ok - gonna cry again - I gotta stop.
After the show was over, cutie pie boy came down from the stage and over to Maddie (I'm NOT going to cry I'm NOT!). He bent down and just talked to her a bit...she was glowing and grinning from ear to ear....I loved it!!! DAMN YOU CAMERA!!! I then told him my camera had died but that I would like to try and get one picture with them together if he would just cross his fingers for me. He did. He held Maddie bedside of him and I said a little prayer - guess what - IT TOOK! It died again immediately - but THAT picture took!!!
Yep - cried. That was it. Maddie was done. He told her to promise to find him tomorrow night on the ship before leaving on Thursday and we walked off to the buffet. All the while my cake of the day kid screaming....I DO NOT WANT ANY FOOD I WANT TO GO TO BED NOW! Ummmm well guess what priss pot MOMMY WANTS CHOCOLATE and I'm getting it!!! We walked VERY quickly through the line and I took the plate back to my room to much out knowing she would want some as well. NOPE. WRONG! We got there she saw her Tink gifts, another towel animal smiled twice and literally passed out on top of the bed.
A GREAT DAY!!!! Rain, headaches, broken cameras....who cares!!!!! It was WONDERful!
~~~Kelly (I'll do the 4th day tomorrow evening)
You have NO idea how much your kind words about my reports have meant. The reports were SO helpful to me when I was planned so I had promised to write them when I returned. So many of the comments have brought tears to my eyes. I hope EVERYONE has just as much of a MAGICAL ADVENTURE as we did on our trip!!!!
