I have a DS who is 8. Up until recently, he has always been Mama's Boy. He still IS a mama's boy, but now he is starting to want to be like his dad. We went on the Disney Cruise in 2003 and he was much like your daughter was on the first trip - had a great time but doesn't remember a whole lot. I'm so excited about taking him again and getting to enjoy the things that a Father and Son can do together - Play basketball on the deck, movies, shows, Pirates (what father/son combo WOULDN'T love that), arcade, and much more than I can list. You already recognize what I am just getting a clue about - if we don't enjoy the time now, at this point in their life, we will miss it, because soon they will be on to a different time in their life and it will be a whole new experience. As much as I am enjoying him wanting to be like dad, how do you think my DW feels knowing that the mama and her baby phase is ending. The next time we cruise together will be a whole different experience. The ones who are really missing out are the ones who haven't had these experiences with their children (and some haven't even tried).
Thanks for a beautiful post that shows that some parents still care about their children and how they are being raised!
