Motel 6 Maingate

Thoughts on the remodeled Motel 6 on Disney Way. The pics looked nice and we didn't want to spend a lot. We stayed here Sunday and Monday night. The rooms are nicely remodeled, clean, quiet and the beds were comfy. The laminate type flooring should be in ALL hotel rooms. Just saying. The walk is doable but long at the end of the day, but Garden Walk restaurants are a hop, skip and a jump away. Everything else left something to be desired. We aren't picky, but we found that overall this Motel 6 was below our standards. Not because of the rooms (although a bathroom door would have been nice), but because of the staff and type of guests. For every good or decent point there was one or two bigger negatives. On the reservation I had requested a fridge. Upon arrival the desk clerk gave up our choice of floors, we chose the 1st since it was close to the pool thinking the kids would enjoy it. No fridge in the room...DH went to request one and was ignored by the front desk staff. The pool is basic, which is fine, but the two women turning tricks at the corner table was a different matter! That set the general feeling of lack of safety. Usually we have no problem leaving the kids to go grab dinner to bring back to the room, but that wasn't going to happen this time around. Day two we came back to the room at 2pm and maid service had not yet arrived. We had ran out of towels (they only leave four tiny little towels and none in the pool area) because of swimming and showers. Those had not been replenished, garbage wasn't dumped, beds not made. DH went to request more towels and maid service, mentioned the fridge request. He is much more diplomatic than I. Luke warm responses to each concern. "Maids are still out", fridges are in "different" rooms, and "we'll see if we can get you some more towels". Which is expected at that level of motel rating...But we will return to Anaheim Plaza when we want a cheap place to stay. Little things definitely make the difference, like plentiful towels, fridges, smiles from the staff, and a hair drier... and I have never felt unsafe there. Not once. Just thought you guys might want to know for future reference.

Our stay earlier this month was similar ~ I'd stay there again maybe - we didn't see anything like you saw in fellow guests! We didn't use the pool at all. The walk was difficult on the day we took a mid day break ~ luckily DD had a stroller but I did the walk to and from the parks 3 times! It'd have to be a trip when the park hours are 10am-8pm for me to consider staying there again *so cooler weather as well, however the 4th of July weekend was quite chilly *mornings and evenings. Our rate was great for 7/4 & 7/5.

Dear OP,

I am sorry that your hotel/motel experience was not the best and you were really unimpressed. I hope that in the future you will try the HOJO across the street from Disneyland—they have a great pool area, the bed always made and trash are always dumped, and the service is exceptional!

I don't know which is more ...the "working girls on the job" by the pool, or...NO BATHROOM DOOR! I saw some pics of the remodeled rooms & thought they were cute, and that maybe I'd try the Motel 6 if I were doing a "super-budget-no-frills" trip, but I think I'll pass...thanks for the heads up!

I am sorry that your hotel/motel experience was not the best and you were really unimpressed. I hope that in the future you will try the HOJO across the street from Disneyland—they have a great pool area, the bed always made and trash are always dumped, and the service is exceptional!

I love HoJo too ~ but I'm spoiled by the ent rate ~ I won't stay there without it!

I don't know which is more ...the "working girls on the job" by the pool, or...NO BATHROOM DOOR! I saw some pics of the remodeled rooms & thought they were cute, and that maybe I'd try the Motel 6 if I were doing a "super-budget-no-frills" trip, but I think I'll pass...thanks for the heads up!

thats the one thing i love about the hojo, that it's safe and near by disneyland ..can't beat a 8 min walk! lol besides they don't have the working girls at the pool!

Even worse is a certain hotel nearby, that resembles a landmark in the Park (not going to name names here; I'm sure people can figure it out...). Not only did I get to witness working girls there, I got to see one have a run-in with her "boss" right outside my window. At around 2 or 3 in the morning. And this was on top of finding bodily fluids on the bedsheets & a used "family planning device" in the room. Needless to say, I never stayed there again!

But, yeah, Hojo's is great, if one can get the Entertainment rate.

Unfortunately (but fortunately for the hotel) this was waaaaaaay before I knew about Tripadvisor!

I stayed at the motel 6 for about 10 days last October. It was great, the staff was nice and on top of that i had my dog stay with me and didnt complain once about her being left alone in the room a few hrs like other hotels. The remodel was decent and location was not bad, we had a car anyways. The only thing was it could be noisy outside due to kids running around, but thats what you get with a motel. I would stay here again if i were bringing my dog with me again.

And that's the "censored" version of my not so happy hotel experience!(because this is an all ages board & because, really, no one needs to know where or how I discovered the...item that should've been flushed...they'd never take their shoes off in a hotel room again!)

The Hojo is great, but it's not the only good moderately priced hotel in the area...the Anaheim Plaza Hotel is my "go-to" hotel for when the Entertainment rate isn't available, and Stovall's is actually my hotel of choice (love the remodeled rooms, topiary garden & free breakfast!).

There are, however, a few hotels that really stand out as being , both from (unfortunate) experience or reading reviews on Tripadvisor. (Which I know should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt, but when several people write reviews of the hotels and have issues with the same things, it's best to heed their advice and pay a little bit more a night for a hotel that isn't horrifying!)

We just stayed at the Motel 6 Maingate this past Friday. It was clean and the staff was friendly. It was a slightly far walk at the end of a long 12 hours at the parks, but it was doable.

In our room there was a door to the bathroom. It was actually 2 pull doors, they didn't close right, but the toilet was not in direct view of the doors, so it really wasn't a big deal (and I shared the room with 3 boys).

We needed extra towels and I just went down to the front desk and asked for some. They had clean towels in the front, so it was quick and easy. The girl at the front desk asked how many I needed and folded them and gave them to me. I found when staying at "motels", they really do not bring you towels to your room, they make you come get them, so I didn't even call I just went down myself.

With fridges, I found out if there's not fridges in each room, to call a week or so before check in and request one. That way you're on the list before you get there.

I love Hojo, but like others, I am spoiled by the Ent Rate. My favorite offsite is still CCI, but I rarely justify the extra expense. I haven't had a bad stay there yet! Anaheim Plaza is our go to for budget trips. Which is almost all of them since we go so often!
