I am going to book for just my DH and I for a trip in January of 2009. Probably 1/8-1/13. It will be to celebrate my 40th birthday!!!! Anyway it will be out first time without kids, and I would love to stay in a romantic setting. I'd love some opinions!

tough choice..... Port orleans , french quarter. book a room either on the river OR on the quaint street. book a horse drawn carriage ride. take the boat to downtown disney.
OR Coronada Springs, but INSIST on Casitas, even it you don't get Casitatas, make SURE you walk THROUGH that section at night (NOT along the promenade, which is nice, too), but through the fountains, rotundas, gardens, enjoy the hot tub... set apart from the main pook a bit. the quiet pools are secluded. enjoy a nightcap at the new outdoor bar by the main section. make up a drink (or buy one) and walk along the many walkways.

I would have to say The Grand Floridian is the most romantic resort to me. Of course we went there on our honeymoon so I may just a little partial!

I would say Grand Floridian is (by far) the most romantic resort in Disney World, with the Polynesian in second. Both have amazing views of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Cinderella Castle, as well as gorgeous beaches and landscaping.

The Grand Floridian wins because of its elegant atmosphere and luxury. The lobby is very impressive, and the music is quite relaxing. Also, the GF is known for service that is above and beyond (during my last trip there in July, a cast member was walking through the lobby and giving roses to the women). There are many restaurants to try that are great for romantic meals (Narcoossees, Citricos, and Victoria & Alberts). The recently renovated rooms are beautiful. Overall, it only takes one stay at GF to realize how incredible it is, and the hotel is a perfect choice for romance.

Polynesian is a close second to me. What's not romantic about a Hawaiian escape? Also, the view of Cinderella Castle from the Polynesian's beach is my favorite in WDW. The castle is directly across the lagoon, so the view is more direct than at GF. If you end up choosing Poly, you can still walk to Grand Floridian (the walkway is right on the shores of the lagoon, so it's very romantic)!

*The Magic Kingdom view from the Contemporary is breathtaking, as you can see the entire park and Seven Seas Lagoon. I would recommend having a meal at California Grill and watching Wishes from the observation deck. However, I don't think the Contemporary has a very romantic atmosphere overall, so I wouldn't recommend staying there.

I don't know if you can narrow down one resort as the most romantic but CSR is a very romantic resort. Sandy beaches, hammocks, the way the lights shimmer of the lake at night, it's all good.

Out of the ones we stayed at, I found CBR to be the most romantic. Very relaxing and quiet. The lush tropical feel. Really enjoyed it.

CSR!! I love CSR for the atmosphere, great CM's and the deluxe-lite feel. CSR offers queen beds, a spa, salon, full menu room service and fitness center not to mention a terrific main pool area and the best transportation that is not shared with any other resort. It's like taking two vacations in one. CSR now has QUEEN beds too!! :thumbsup2

I would have to say the WL in the honeymoon suite. There are only 4 and on the top floor of the lodge. We spent our honeymoon there and it was fantastic.

The Yacht club wins for me. It is so romantic & beautiful especially at night. The entire area when you're walking back from Epcot, very low lighting, usually there is music piped in. Dh & I love it.

When I look back on my trips, (I know I may get some flames here) but I found the Swan to be one of the most romantic! I know it isn't Disney, but just something about the level of service there, the location, the views, the heavenly beds....I don't know, it was just more romantic. We were treated like royalty when we stayed there. And with my government employee rate, a great bargain!

Now for deluxe hotels we have stayed at The Poly, GF, WL, and AKL. IMO, GF had the worst customer service. Yes, the grounds are romantic, the location great, and depending on your room, the view can be great. But it just seemed to be lacking something. DH works for The Ritz and used to work for Four Seasons. Disney deluxe hotels certainly do not meet the standards of those hotels! But I guess they don't have to, because people are going to stay there at premium prices regardless.
I just think the Swan offered a bit more class. I really felt like I was staying at a World Class luxury resort. We felt really pampered staying there. And the Mandara Spa is unbelievable. And the restaurants at Swam/Dolphin are some of the best in Orlando.

That being said. We own DVC at AKV. There is definintely a romanic mystique about that place. Especially at night. And the grounds are so lush. You feel like you are really isolated. I found the Victoria Falls lounge area, which has little couches, to be a great little romanic nook. I love to just sit on the couch, have a cocktail and snuggle!

I guess if you are looking for themeing, then you have to pick your preference. Do you want that "Somewhere in Time" feeling? Then GF is the place. If you want to feel like you are in Hawaii, then Poly! I can go on and on here. I also guess it depends on your budget too. Like others have stated, CSR is the deluxe of the moderates!
When it comes to romance though, I guess it depends on the couple. DH and I felt romantic at Pop Century! We think that there is something in the air that makes us feel romantic at Disney!

Second WL, it is close to MK yet feels so peaceful. Beautiful fireplaces with rocking chairs, a peaceful boat ride from MK.

Also consider OKW. Peaceful, large rooms, close to DTD.

POR.
1) The landscaping is lush and secluded on the AB side.
2) The boat ride to DTD can be romantic. You are boating along a small "river," forests all around you. My wife loved this ride.
3) The fishng hole is a fun little romantic thing to do. Get one pole, a cup full of worms and have fun. My wife nor I are fisher-people, we had a blast.
4) The horse drawn carriage rides between POR and POFQ at night are great.
5) The walking path between POR and POFQ is nice to walk along also...
Thats my take on it.

CSR is not romantic.
If you think the Red Roof Inn is romantic...then maybe.

As much as I love to GF, i have to agree on this....POR is so pretty and "old south". It is as romantic as you can get. The paths on Alligator Bayou are beautiful!

I also love the GF and the Poly for romance. esp at night, when you are your spouse are walking along the paths with barely lit lamps or tiki torches.

so i would say in this order
POR
GF
POLY

But for us we throw in location, price, theming, convenience and romance, it all comes down to the Wilderness Lodge. A deluxe resort thats one of the cheapest, boat ride to the MK, very secluded and seems remote but on Bay Lake which is heavenly, all under one roof, secluded nooks on every floor, some with couches and fireplaces and an atmosphere that makes you feel alone, and after a hectic day is a park, priceless.

The WL! It is a breathtaking resort, with gorgeous grounds, which are great for taking a romantic stroll! I loved the pool area, and the hot tubs were nice. I love the theming as well. It is also a very cozy and comforting resort!

CSR is not romantic.
If you think the Red Roof Inn is romantic...then maybe.

red roof inn?:confused3 maybe when you stayed at Coronado, you were in the Cabanas or the ranchos. we prefer the Casitas. but.. wherever you stay, you can walk through the whole resort. or a bike ride. but, as I stated earlier, you have to walk THROUGH the Casitas.... not jsut along the promenade. our first stay there, we stayed in Casitas, bldg. 5, and STILL MISSED a lot. it wasn't until the next stay (Cabanas) that hubby said "what's down THIS way?" and we discoverd all the hidden fountains, gardens, rotunda, etc WITHIN the Casitas (NOT along the promenade)
and never underestimate a cozy lie down in the hammocks!

I think all of the mods are very romantic. Probably CBR and CSR would get my vote as really romantic resorts! Laying in a hammock at CBR while watching the high up fireworks of Illuminations. The tropical landscaping, lake and beach are all so nice. Its very quiet and the quiet pools are so peaceful and generally not crowded. CSR at night, with the reflection of lights on the lake is a slice of heaven, all you have to do is look at Buzz's pictures to get a nice idea of its romantic feel.

And of course POR with the carriage rides and POFQ with its charm are both nice.

I also think that the Poly is very romantic, the lit torches, Wishes from the beach and the lovely landscaping all lead to some romance.

OKW and SSR both have some nice grounds to wander around in. Also nice views from their balconies. SSR has the nice spa, you could do a couples massage which would be really nice, and its walkable or boatable to DTD and all its dining and nightlife. SSR's Turf Club has a nice patio for a quiet, intimate dinner. And the one bedrooms at those two (and all other DVC resorts) have jacuzzi tubs, lots of space and nice balconies.

Given the immersive theming of WDW resorts, its easy to get lost in them and spend time just enjoying what they have to offer with the one you love!

I agree Amy! CSR is a gorgeous resort as are many WDW resorts! To compare it to a Red Roof is ridiculous. It's obvious what that poster is trying to do. :stir:
