My DH and I are going to WDW for our anniversary and he said that I could stay whereever I want. I thought for sure that I wanted to stay at the Grand Floridian. My question, is the Grand Floridian worth the extra $500 over other deluxes in the area? We recently stayed at the Boardwalk and even though it was nice, it definitely wasn't luxurious. Help me out here because the Grand Floridian would need to be pretty over the top for me to spend the extra money.

personally I think the Garden Suites at the BWI, look very romantic, private entrances, a second floor with a really nice oversized tub!! I think this looks very romantic, you have your own private garden and fenced in yard!and you can walk the boardwalk all lite up!

my choice!!

What do you consider romantic? Seclusion from the rest of the world? I'd recommend the Polynesian, WL (It's like wilderness resort so you would get the "feel" of seculsion, or AKL (It's farther out from the parks). Do you like being in the center or things? Boardwalk or Beach Club. I'd say steer away from the CR, it just seems very non-romantic in every sense of the word to me.

As far at the GF goes I had an extremely bad experience there with my family when I was a bit younger, and it's sort of turned me off from that resort. (We had things stolen from our room like clothes and stuffed animals and they told us that they could not help us, and that it was our fault since we had not locked our wardrobe up! LOL) In my opinion, most people love the GF, and chances are you would love it as well, however, I personally don't think it's worth the extra money. I'd say the Poly is a good choice b/c its right in the center or thigns while seeming secluded with its winding walkways right outside the beach and the Seven Seas Lagoon. It's like a tropical paradise but just at Disney.

Best of luck!

I agree with the poly..if you want super luxury go for poly concierge!!!!
Gf is nice but a little stuffy, at poly you can grab a pina colada (the best by the way) grab a hammock on the beach and watch the fire works  and since it is on the monorail you can head to GF for a romantic dinner( try Victoria and Alberts if $$$$ is not an option, narcoossees is soposed to also be romantic!) and use the spa!!!! Have fun :sunny:

In looking at the pictures it appears that the Polynesian is very dark. Is that true? It is so hard to decide when you haven't been there. My husband loves the Boardwalk but I wanted to try something on the monorail because I will be there in March with my children and want to see the ease of the monorail before I commit to 4 days over there and then moving to 4 days at a Villa (probably the Boardwalk) when my husband joins us.

I again personally find the Poly very dark and non romantic...I stayed poly conc...check my link bottom right of this. The outside is fine, but I think....tacky

Hands down the most romantic - if you ask me. However, it depends how much money you have. After staying there three time with a view of the castle from our bed, I gladly give it up for three trips a year at POFQ compared to the cost of one trip at the GF. But you have to do it one - and an anniversary is the right time to do it.

But you must get a castle view to see fireworks and the castle shine all night long. I don't think it is worth the cost to be in the GF and not have the best view. If you're gonna do it - do it - that includes Concierge!

How do I request a castle view? That would be awesome. We are stuck on Disney now and I don't really care what it costs as long as we have a great time. My husband was very very skeptical about Disney but this was his idea!

Meandthree, to me, any hotel/resort is romantic, especially when I don't have to make anyone's bed every day, ~sigh.~ That said, I have stayed in 18 of the WDW resorts so far. A few of my all-time favorites immediately come to mind: GF, AKL, and PO-FQ. I wouldn't hesitate to stay in any of those three resorts (or any of the other WDW resorts -- I'm too easy ;)).

I have photos posted of many of the WDW resorts that I have stayed in (not all of them but definitely a whole heck of a lot of 'em). Click here for my main on-line photo album (they're in alphabetical order). Since you're interested in the GF, you'll find quite a few GF room photos (including a deluxe main building room and a two-bedroom suite in Conch Key).

My favorite thing to do at the GF is just hang out at the swimming pool with my husband and/or kids. I also love relaxing in the lobby, especially when the pianist or band is playing in the evening. It's terribly romantic.

If you're bored and want to read about some of my recent GF stays, I have a few trip reports posted: click here, click here, and click here. In those trip reports, I tried to give a little bit of a feel of each of the resorts that I stayed in (I prefer to resort-hop and thus a lot of my vacations include multiple Disney resorts).

No matter what resort you choose, the magic is what you make of it. If you leave your heart open to it, it will creep in when you least expect it. Have a wonderful time.

Just remember, what's romantic to a woman might not be romantic to a man. I think GF looks romantic, but my DH thinks it's too girly -- he said it reminded him of his little sister's tea parties when he was a kid. :rotfl2: He prefers AKL (which I too think is romantic, but in a different way).

Honestly, the most romantic hotel I've seen in Orlando is the Portofino Bay at Universal. We really felt like we were in Italy. Okay, back to WDW. If you're set on a monorail hotel, I vote GF -- but show pictures of it to your DH first.

Poly hands down. Walking on the torch lit paths, hand in hand with the one you love is the best. Listening to the sounds of the luau or the island music in the background. The castle changing color in the background and the fireworks...If that action doesn't put some romance in your life, you may be ready to hang it up.

:cloud9: Well, the Grand Floridian (of course...check out my sig :p ) It is sublime there and I definitely think the extra cost is worth it. I like the Poly but I stay in hawaii about as often as I stay in WDW so I like a different theme than hawaii. The theming at GF is wonderful and it is above else, convenient. It has the best location, IMHO, but we love MK, being on the monorail, and love all the access to the other MK resorts...so many great restaurants and lobbies to explore and the monorail is such a fun way to get to them all! I've written about the GF many times on these boards, so I don't want to exhaust my same descriptions over and over, but the white sand beach, electric parade and great theming/ lobby/ restaurants/ rooms (not to mention exceedingly comfortable beds that you don't ever want to get out of!) make the GF a dream. :lovestruc

I am thinking that the Grand Floridian is probably what we will do. I love to stay in luxury hotels and it looks as if this is going to be the most luxurious. I need special ideas for dinners, etc. I am a Disney freak now. Just came back, going again in September and then again for Spring Break next year. I really find it to be the best place to vacation with children!

Here are my 2 most romantic resorts!!!

1. The Poly.....nothing is better than a beach, fireworks and a hammock!

2. The POR....We just love that Tom Sawyer feel of the Alligator Bayou AND they have the most romantic pathways for long strolls.... :goodvibes

Yes, GF offers the most luxurious experience in my opinion (I've stayed in GF, AKL, BC, BWI, YC, WL, the Swan, PO Riverside and FQ). There isn't one I wouldn't return to, but the GF is the one I would return to always if I only had to choose one.

I also think you can spend an evening on a hammock at the Poly even if you are staying at GF, at least, I have done that myself by taking a motor launch over in the evening and watching the fireworks on a hammock while my son played in the sand in front of me. Very nice. :love2:

For restaurants, Narcoosee's is nice--expensive and probably not worth it to try and catch the sunset or fireworks from (it is more crowded then and it's actually prettier on both occasions to be outdoors). I love the sunset while in the waterfall pool, and watching the fireworks from the dock or my balcony.

California Grill at the Contemporary is another good one, as is Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge (I'm considering the occasion of your anniversary). I've never tried Victoria and Albert's but I have no doubt it would be good princess: Citrico's is another that I haven't tried but I've heard good things about. I think you'll love the Grand Floridian

The Grand Floridian is the absolute best! I highly recommend staying there.

To me, the Polynesian reminds me of the Brady Bunch Hawaii Episode. When I walked around I could have sworn I kept hearing "the brady bunch, the brady bunch and that's the way that we became the brady bunch" :rotfl:
