Most ridiculous cell phone calls

Odd that no one seems to have mentioned this, but if you need to exchange "meet me at X" information, would it not be better to do that via IM, so that you don't have to try to hear or be heard?

If it's idle chitchat, save it for later, but in all cases, keep your voice down.

I run a social service agency. Frequently while on vaction I take calls on my cell phone. I agree with others in that it is easy and quicker for me to handle a situation than to let others who do not have intimate knowledge make critical judgements.

I have a completely unlimited plan on my phone so therefore the numbor of minutes used is irrelevant.

I do not talk on rides or in shows, however any place in which I would carry on a public conversation, I believe is appropriate for cell phone usage. Does it really matter wether the person you are talking with is on the phone or standing next to you?????

The reason it matters is because invariably people speak much louder when talking on their cell phones than they would if they were speaking to a person standing next to them. I don't think we do that on purpose, but it is usually necessary for the other person to hear you well, especially if there is background noise, like in a theme park. That's what makes it more annoying to those around you. The other thing is when the content of the conversation is inappropriate for the location.

The other problem is that if you are speaking with a person who is with you, you can temporarily stop talking if you encounter a situation where the conversation is inappropriate or would disturb others. When you are talking on the phone, you can't do that as easily.

The answer is NO if you can talk in a normal voice which most people have trouble doing. It is usually because you can not hear as well in a crowd so you talk louder to compensate and really don't realize this is happening until one of crazies gives you a dirty look for invading our conversation space.
I love the people who have now gone with the full head sets so they can try to do two things at once. Most of them have no idea how stupid they look or how loud they are talking.

Y'all look for me in the parks in Dec. I will be the one without a phone talking to my wife as we enjoy the sites.

Well I personally keep my phone with me AT ALL TIMES and I will tell you why. My son went into the service on July 4th (we were in Disney) and there was NO WAY I was going to chance missing a call from him. He doesn't get many opportunities to call home and I'm certainly not going to miss that becuase some people get offended.!
But on the whole I do agree there is a time and place for it!

Just my 2 cent worth :)

Remember the good old days when payphones were in banks outside the restrooms, and if you wanted to make a call, you had to go there to do it?

My dad owned a thriving business back then, and would check in two or three times a day with his secretary from the payphones, usually while we ladies were in the restroom. We never felt it was an intrusion on our vacation or that it cost us attention from him as a Dad.

Why is it that people can't take their cell phone calls to a more quiet location? My dream would be to have 'designated cell phone' areas like the smoking areas where people can go, talk as much or as loud as they want, and not disturb others.

I understand there are emergencies and there are exceptions to every 'rule' of etiquette but it's gotten insane. You can't walk, move, or roll (in a wheelchair) without someone on a cell phone in your way in the parks absentmindedly walking and talking.

I hated being in line in the Peter Pan queue with a teenaged girl on her phone near us (on and on and not appropriate language, either! Believe me, no emergency there!)

It's all about respecting people, and the price they are paying for their vacation. Disney ain't cheap. And when I spend my money to go there, the last thing I want to do is have some guy closing his real estate deal at the next table in a fine restaurant (as has happened to me) or people beeping their kids every two seconds on their Nokia 2 way radio phones (GRRRRRRR!) Whatever happened to "We'll split up and meet at the castle at 3pm?" BEFORE splitting up?

Not... *beep*"Where are you?*beep* Well where are you?*beep* Is Dad having fun? *beep* Yeah, we're having fun too!"

Unfortunately, you just can't expect people to be polite anymore
:( But believe you me, if I'm eating a 30.00 steak at the California Grill that I waited all year for, and you're making a stock trade at the next table on your phone, I WILL complain to the waitstaff. Take it outside.
