Most ridiculous cell phone calls

I got a kick out of reading a thread a while ago on this, but never had experienced any one using a cellphone in a crazy place until last week when we were at MGM. We were on the Great Movie Ride and we were stopped in gangster town in the middle of the LOUD shootout and there was a woman sitting behind me SCREAMING into her cellphone with her head down between her legs!! It was the craziest thing I had ever seen, not to mention rude. We not only had the guns blasting we had her screaming over the guns!! I guess it must have been important!

Some people just don't get it. I attend many meetings and at the beginning people are told to please turn off their cell phone. Of course there are always one or two who don't but at least they get up and take the call outside. Even seen this happen at a funeral, but they turned off the phone. Taking a call during the Great Movie Ride is pretty bad though. I'd thought the building might block the cell signal.

Personally, I'm leaving my cell phone at the resort. My family hasn't had an emergency for the 4 years since I've owned it, I think I can live without it for a couple of hours (though I may have withdrawls) This is Family time...I don't want to get distracted (and distract other people) by well-meaning un-needed phone calls. I figure if there's an "emergency", I'll find out soon enough when I get back to the resort. I mean, really, what did we ever do without them all those years?!

P.S. I know, now I'll get a reply from someone that missed a cell phone call that their kidney match came in and they didn't get it because they didn't have it their phone with them.

I went to WDW once with the extended family. The adults and older kids wanted to go on Dinosaur, so I volunteered with my BIL to stay back and watch the little ones. As soon as everyone else walked away, my BIL got on his cell and conducted business for our whole wait. I was stuck keeping the little ones occupied and in line while we waited for everyone else.

Of course, I think he wrote off his trip as a business expense.......

I saw 2 odd cell phone moments...

1) in the pouring rain outside Honey I shrunk the Audience there was a guy wearing a yello mickey poncho with his cell under the roof cover of the Fast Pass distribution area. He was talking to someone saying he just needed their social security number and he would "see to it" and he was writing it on a EPCOT map with a pencil.. it was really weird as the rest of us were listening to him and he was talking like he was in his office

The other one was during the kilamanjaro safari ride - the guy behind us was talking to his office while the rest of us were ohhing and awwing the baby elephant.

random add on comment.....if you are on a list for a transplant and leave your info with the hospital or so, they will make an all park announcement if you are up for it.....

I took a phone call inside the Haunted Mansion on Friday... I know, but I'd forgotten to turn the phone off and it was a friend I was trying to track down.. I made her call me back in 5 minutes. She thought hearing the shrieking ghosts on the phone was hilarious, though.

It just seems funny to me how the cell phone has legitimized the act of rudeness! I see people all day with friends, family, driving cars, walking down the street all attached to cell phones. And that's not just a quick hello, I can't talk now, I'll call you back, it's a long sometimes never ending conversation. On top of that the user seems to find it necessary to yell into the phone.

It doesn't seem to matter where they are, who they are with, how many people are being ignored or annoyed. The almighty call must go through. It wasn't that many years ago that they just didn't exist and we all got along fine.

The process kind of depresses me because I don't think I know enough people to keep me on the phone that many hours of the day. It will, mark my word, lead to a new "me-generation" illness or injury caused by holding the phone to your ear. It is obvious that it has already caused some brain damage or they wouldn't choose to use the damn thing in the places they do.

Yes, I have one but I hardly ever use it. It's for emergencies only and only a couple of carefully chosen people have the number. No business calls or lengthy chats while I am doing something else more important, like visiting WDW. If I wanted to be found no matter where I am I would tell someone and they could come and find me. Thanks, I'm feeling much better now.
  :smooth:

We will be taking our cell phones with us. However, we won't be talking on them unless absolutely necessary. I will have mine on and my daughter will have the number on her in case, God Forbid, we get seperated. Also, we are traveling in a group and it will be easier to get back together. I would be too distracted to actually hold a conversation at Disneyworld.

I guess I am guilty of this..... I have called the kids D. for rashes or allergys 3-4 times one day at MGM..( the child is allergic to peanuts and I did not want to give her a eppi pen and go to the hospital unless we had to. We gave her allergy elixer and the Dr. called back 3 times to check on her.

I also called both my and DH parents when we found out we were pregnant at WDW on X-mass eve..... We were walking in Osborne lights.

I never talk just to talk and never on rides.....:D

Nothing - but nothing - interrupts my holiday! Cell phone stays at home in England. Immediate family have details of where I am staying, and on what days, and the phones in hotels have voicemail. In 10 trips I have NEVER had a call from home!

I can't believe how many people choose to spend precious WDW time on the telephone (usually talking about nothing in particular). My time with my family and the mouse is too precious to share!

Okay, I know it is a no-no to use cell phones on rides and attractions. I am anticipating changing our cell phone plan for nationwide long distance so I can use it on our next trip to WDW in June. Do you guys think it is rude to use the cell phone in the parks say walking down Main Street or sitting on a bench or even while waiting in lines? I want to be able to call DH who won't be on this trip to report.

I may be in the minority, but I think it o.k. As long as you aren't yelling in the phone, or bothering people around you. I say go for it. My husband is a Marine, so he misses out on things quite often. He has had a chance to "share" the experience with us through the phone a few times. I think most people would be understanding if they knew the circumstances.

My Mom was so jealous I was in WDW and she wasn't last March that she must have called me 4 times a day. Now, if I was in a ride or at a show I would tell her to call me back. She just wanted to hear the music that is always played everyone. Also, I don't yell into my cell phone. I don't understand people that do! Do you yell into a regular phone?

As long as the person you are calling can tell the difference between, "I want to share this experience" and "I'm in Disney World and you aren't" then I guess it's OK. My guess is that all you are sharing is a phone call. If the person you are calling loves WDW or whatever, than he or she isn't feeling included because you called, they would just feel further excluded in my way of thinking. If they don't like WDW then they really don't want to share anyway.

Sitting on a bench talking to someone is one thing. Walking down Main Street is another. Why exactly are you there? You could talk on the phone at home and not spend nearly as much money to do it. I suspect a lot (not all) are using the phone to impress others with just how important they are because the can't even go on vacation without maintaining contact with all those people that haven't got a clue and must contact them to be given instructions on how to swallow or some such activity.

I believe that are a great invention for emergencies, maintaining contact in the event of separation and the like but why anyone wants to be constantly attainable is a total puzzle to me. But it is your life! If it isn't interfering with mine or your not driving with one hand on the phone and the other on a cup of coffee or talking (loudly) during a show or ride than, what the heck, have fun.

I have a simple pay in advance type phone. When I use up the minutes I "recharge" it. I am at a loss to understand how, considering the amount of time spent on the cell phone, most can afford it. It isn't the cheapest thing on the planet.

i always call acouple of my disney nut friends and tell them "guess where i am?", the answer being "boardwalk and you're not" "main street and you're not" etc... they also reciprocate when they are in WDW... we all quite enjoy it...

well, nobody calls me in the first place, but just to put a little bit of a spin on things....

I take my cell phone with me to WDW all the time....I don't get too many calls, but since I go there like once a week mainly cuz me and my friends are bored, its not like its ruining my time or distract me from the magic when I sit waiting for the tarzan show talking on the phone.....

so it might not be total spoilage of the magic if somebody is talking on their phone.....

We were one of the rude ones on cellphones at Islands of Adventure this weekend.

Let me preface this by saying we seldom use our phones. We have 2 and usually the minutes we use are less than 15 minutes for the entire month. We essentially carry them for emergencies on the road not for communication.

But Sunday, at IOA my husband and I wanted to see the Sindbad show and my sons wanted to ride Spiderman again. We had fastpasses for Spiderman at the same time as the show so my 15 and 16 year old sons took theirs and our fastpasses to ride Spiderman twice while we were in the show. We planned a meeting place but gave them a phone just in case.

My husband and I went to the show and I had our phone turned off. After the show, we went to the prearranged meeting place. After waiting 45 minutes and still no sons, I called them.

My 16 year old answered the phone while on Spiderman. I felt badly about that and wouldn't have called if I had any idea they were on a ride. As soon as he told me he was on the ride, I hung up as quickly as possible. Next time, I will remind him to leave the phone off until he gets off the ride.

I was in a queue and the lady behind me was on her cel phone describing smoe relative's surgery in great detail ... it was making me ill.

Non-Disney, but this one made the local papers: At a Ft.
Worth production of "Jesus Christ Susperstar" someone's cell phone went off right at the climax of the crucifixion scene ... but to make it worse, the ring was "Jingle Bells."

Someone took a phone call during my wedding last year. Right in the middle of the ceremony!
