There are 3 new babies in our family (not mine!) this year, so some of my brothers and sisters couldn't go to Mom's for Thanksgiving. The other 2 live far away. My mom has always cooked. When I realized it would just be her and dad and our family, I said I'd cook.

I will do this every year!! No more waiting til 8 pm to eat, because my brother is running late, etc. Our younger dd is 5 and mildly autistic. Waiting for my brother to show up, or being in a big crowd of cousins is hard on her. She loves them, but in smaller doses.

This year, I wasn't holding my breath waiting for her to meltdown. In our house, when she's had enough stimulus, she can just retreat to her room. As far as cooking goes, I just did a turkey breast, and the usual sides. It was so unstressful!!:goodvibes

I hope you all had a great holiday too! Or enough wine to offset it!!

I'm glad you had a great day! I'm getting ready to start trying to offset mine...

You know, this is exactly why we didn't travel down to my mom's this year. Well, actually, we don't travel much with Christian at all anymore. It's just too hard. He's severely mentally handicapped and autistic. He doesn't have meltdowns too much, but he's so big now he's getting hard to handle. Especially when we're in a new environment. And it doesn't matter how many times we go to Granny's, it's always a "new environment." New bed, new sofa, new tub, new potty. Just getting him to sit on the "strange toilet" is an effort--he doesn't generalize from one thing to another, so he has to experience each toilet as an unknown entity. Lets just say, we go through a LOT of wet pants and Depends when we travel.

This year was so nice. Christian played outside inhis own child-proofed yard. DD17 put up the tree and the outside lights. Fortunately I cooked the majority of our dinner yesterday, because I slipped a disc last night and I've been in pain all day. Being at home, I've been able to rest some. I couldn't have done that at my mom's house--I have to be up and supervising Christian constantly when I'm there. While I was lying on my heating pad I was able to get all my Christmas cards addressed. Even got my annual Christmas letter written

I vote that we all stay home again next year, too! :thumbsup2 Glad you had a good holiday.
