Most over-hyped things on dis...

The Pools....I just don't get why people go swimming when they are in WDW. I can go swimming anywhere! When I"m at WDW I'm gonna enjoy the stuff I don't get to see and do normally.

OHHHHHHHHHHH you just cant swim! :lmao:

Well as I type this I am wearing my crocs (they are also a major part of my TR):rotfl2: ...and I too think they are overhyped!:guilty: as charged!
But damn these are comfortable!

Other Over hyped stuff

Chef Mickeys in particular! So overhyped I thought people were NUTS for liking this place. I can honestly say it was the worst restraunt I EVER been in the world (this includes Taco Bell during the Salmonela scare)

All the ADR talk! aghhhhhhhhhhhhhh:headache:

WDW menu talk. I always thought WDW resturaunts were more "ambience' driven than "food" driven! They are good...but not the BEST.
Honest to God my favorite eating place is in the POP Century. They have the BEST Chicken Alfredo I EVER EATEN in my life. I really crave for that all year long.

Pool Hopping....There is more talk & flaming over that subject...and I dont think it is even done very often. I'll never know how Disers can see half naked people in the pool and KNOW WITH CERTAINTY that they are pool hoppers. Just never made any sense to me.:confused3

swimming in WDW is UNDERrated, especially when you live in the UK. how often do you think we get to swim in an outdoor pool??? i don't think there's many round that are public and boy are you rich if you have your own

We swim in outside pools in Belgium... I think after all those years , we are used to the cold ;)

- Crocs. I love my Crocs, they are really comfy, and I would never have known about them without these boards. However, I don't understand why about half of the threads have to be about Crocs. Or any other particular shoe. We all have different feet and different feet need different shoes. If that wasn't the cae, they would only sell one type of shoe. Try on some shoes and see what's the most comfy for you. Do you really think someone who has never seen your feet will know what shoe yo need to wear?

- WDW restaurants. Why on earth would you ask someone else what you should eat. I don't like Moroccon food, does this mean you won't like it? I don't think so. Thereare good sites out there with the menus, go read them, and decide for yourself what you want to eat. If you're ol denough to go to Disney, you're old enough to decide what you like to eat and what not.

-DDP: yes, you can get food that's worth more money that you paid. But IMO, it's the easiest way to get fat. (sorry)

- The whole "princess"thing. I don't get why one would pay huge amounts of money to eat in a fake castle or to have their daughters be changed into some working girl with princess-clothes on. Maybe because I'm from a country with real princesses and with dozens of real castles that host restaurants that I don't understand it, but still...

- What some people will do to stay at a Deluxe. I remember some trip report regarding a Disney wedding. The bride/ groom shared a room with the groom's mom and a friend at the GF, concierge level of course. Excuse me??? I'd rather stay at Pop and have my own room when it's my wedding/ honeymoon instead of sharing it with other people. (Note 1: I am not bashing this particular couple, it's their right to stay wherever they want. But I still don't get it) (Note 2: Ignore my ignorance if Disney makes you stay at a deluxe if you want a disney-wedding. But even then, go for a wedding where you can afford a seperate room)

DCL: "what can you tell me about cabin nr XXXX". Wel, I guess it's the same cabin as all the others of that category, and I'm sure you'll have a nice view of the water.

- Illuminations. I really don't get what people like about it. I was more impressed by the Fantasmic-fireworks in the back than by what was going on in Epcot.

- The whole WDW-thing. Yes, it's a nice place, and one can have a lot of fun and I like everything Disney, so also WDW. But puh-lease, there are other places in the real world, that also offer a lot of fun. Some people are so narrow-minded, it isn't even funny anymore. Ever thought about visiting one of those Epcot-countries in real???

OK, that's it for now :)

ETA: something that is very underrated: which sun tan lotion to use. I don't think I have ever read a thread about which SPF to use. In my case, the highest I can get, thank you very much. ;)

]-DDP: yes, you can get food that's worth more money that you paid. But IMO, it's the easiest way to get fat. (sorry)

SOOOO true! :rotfl2:

- ... Ever thought about visiting one of those Epcot-countries in real???
Yes, we have, but not until the kids are a bit older. And I am looking forward to doing so in the future. I've never been to Europe () and I want to, darn it!

So, in the meantime... Epcot is the closest thing.

P.S. I use nothing under 30 SPF for the kids. Clinique 30 spf Spray or me and Coppertone Sport 50 for the kids. DH uses whatever we use. Neither smells or feels like suntan lotion - thank goodness - and both work well.

Well...this won't be a popular answer I'm sure...but this whole 'tag' thing is, methinks, a big over-hyped. Anyone can have a tag...so what if it's colored?

Or do I just not get it cause I don't got it?
:confused3

And I tried on crocs...meh. Don't get that either; not only are they NOT the most comfy ever, but fugly, too.

My list of overhyped stuff:

Staying ONsite- I can swim in my own PRIVATE pool at midnight at my rental vacation house when I get back from the parks...Can you? ;)

ADR's- Might as well have a clip board and a whistle and call yourself Clark Griswold.

Dolewhips- Highly disapointed...OOOOOhh! it's a pineapple sorbet..ooooh! :rotfl:

DDP--Or whatever the heck accronym is for for this line bottlenecking attrosity.... I'm sorry... I would rather get stuck on SM and have to walk the rails to get out then to get stuck behind someone with that Disney Dining whatever trying to figure out how many 'points' will cover a order of fries at Cosmic Rays.. :headache:
News flash for ya !!! Disney dosen't offer 'free' anything like that out of the goodness of their sweet hearts... The cost for this " free" dining is absorbed by the OVERinflated ticket prices and room packages... ok...rant over...

I think the Crocs issue is like a group mentality thing. I see so many people talk about it and think they're the greatest thing since sex and sliced bread were invented. It's like they have taken on a life of their own and you're not a true DIS'er or worthy of going to Disney unless you jump on the Crocs bandwagon.:rotfl:

I never understand why some adults get all jazzed up over character autographs. Maybe for kids it's cool, but I don't feel the need to get a autograph from a college kid earning minimum wage that's stuck in a hot costume. Getting a picture is pretty cool though and I can understand that, but waiting in line for 30 minutes or longer for a CM to scribble in book isn't my idea of a fun time on vacation. I've seen some adults really go nuts over this while waiting in line and God forbid if the meet and greet is cut short for some reason.:scared1:

Definitely some of the restaurants are over hyped. Chef Mickey's is cool to do once in a while, but the fun of it can wear off pretty quick. I've eaten there a least 4 times and I think I'm set for life. I feel the same about CRT and don't like going there since they changed it over to a mandatory charcter meet and greet. I liked it how it was a couple of years ago without the photo package, etc. It's a little too much for me now.

The Turkey legs were also a big let down for me as well. I do like the Dole Whips though.

Just to let you know. Many pools at the Deluxes are open 24 hours. Quite a few times when I couldn't sleep or wasn't ready for bed, I've been in the quiet pool at the Polynesian way past midnight. Quite a few people were in there as well, if I remember correctly. You can't have loud parties or anything like that, but that probably holds true for rental homes as well. You just have to be courteous of your neighbors.

Split Stays

Mailing freekin' stuff to yourself!!

Le Cellier - Can't figure this one out.

Crocs? My grandmothers orthoepedic shoes are more attractive.

Any type of bag except a backpack.

Towel animals

Line etiquette????? It's a darn line everyone, you've been doing it since 1st grade.

ADR's? If we had spent as much time studying in college as we spend on planning meals, we'd all be PHD's

Un-Birthdays???? How old are we again?

I don't get it either. Look up the menu and decide if it is something you would like to eat. I don't know you from a hole in the wall, so how am I supposed to tell you what restaurants you will like? The same goes for asking others if you should ride a ride. What happened to just trying things for yourself?

DCL: "what can you tell me about cabin nr XXXX". Wel, I guess it's the same cabin as all the others of that category, and I'm sure you'll have a nice view of the water.
This made me laugh. This past summer I went on a cruise with DBF and like his whole family as a sorta family reunion. We had 3 rooms right next to each other. What made me laugh is seeing all his little cousins get worked up visiting each room and asking what the view is like. :rotfl: Uh...it's water. It looks strangely familiar to the water you just saw from my room.

Even if things are over hyped, I'm going to go try them for myself. CRT maybe be overrated, but I am going to try it out in Oct. Ever since I was a little kid I have had this urge to eat in Cinderella Castle, even when it was King Stephan's. (As a 5 year old I questioned why King Stephan had a restaurant in Cinderella's Castle. ) I'm not expecting it to be some amazing adventure. It's just something I've always wanted to do.

Value resorts - they are ugly, garish and I am ashamed when I stay there. They are a pox on Disney property. Huge icons to "hide" stairwells - ugh.
(I will be at POP in June and I am not happy - but we are traveling with less blessed relatives). I know people rave about how much they love them, but I do not get it.

Dining Plan - good god, talk about over analyzing

Turkey legs
Glow cubes

... there is only one thing that I think is terribly overrated, and I am saying this with the fear of the wrath of many DISser's, and that thing is...

(drum roll, please) :scared:

Park Hopping.
:

Im with you. I think Park Hopping - especially when youre using Disney Transportation, is a ginourmous waste of time. HUGE! Ive been known to show up at EPCOT of MK closes early that day, and Ive still got energy - but thats about it.

I actually bought TGMike - I figured that had to be SOMETHING I didnt know! I couldnt bear the thoguht of someone knowing something I didnt! :scared1:

I ordered it.... I opened it, like a child on Christmas Morning expecting to find the Red Ryder BB gun.....

Alas - I got one of those little squirt guns you can fill up in a bathtub when you squeeze it.

I still dont get the TGM following. :confused3

for the record, i would never be caught dead in crocs. even in disney. even in a remote island where no one else lived.

haha YUP! but i do own the athens! they look like flip flops and feel like i'm walking on clouds, but the regular ones....no way!

I have to say the Baggalini, and TGM! waay over hyped!
Tonga Toast! it was the yuckiest thing i have ever tasted...in my life... :faint: Thank goodness DH ordered it otherwise i would have had to order something else!!

those awful looking Vera Bradley bags.

ooo i forgot these! ::yes::

And HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THE DINING PLAN

AND

KIDS MEALS!!! OMG get over it! is one little measly meal going to be the end all of your vacay?? and if so then buy your kid an adult meal!!!

Oh and i have to agree with the towel animal peeps! No biggie to us! i've actually taken them apart when we were in need of more washcloths to clean up the sink!!

Im not sure ive ever seen the TR you are talking about. Disney doesnt make you stay in a deluxe resort-- you are free to choose which you stay in. I couldnt imagine that they stayed with their parents the entire trip. Do you think maybe it was just pre-wedding?

Oh no!! :scared: I am coming to NYC in July and looking forward to comfortably wearing my crocs in the heat. Oh Well, no matter what I do I will look like a tourist.

...in the Village, on Spring somewhere around Varick maybe? I'm a non-crocker, but I passed the store the other day w/the "opening soon" sign up - can't remember exactly where, but Happy Shopping while you're there!
