Most Expensive / Moist Exhausting Continued - Final thoughts and wrap-up

I thought I recognized that #28 from somewhere.;)

Not too original, am I?

I'm just teasing about James' hair:goodvibes. But I can totally commiserate on the last minute packing and rushing. Our Feb. trip was like that too, lots of last minute stuff to do which is not how I usually roll!

It really was a wonder that we made it out the door on time.

I agree with Rosie's idea about Judy coloring her hair purple! I can't imagine her objecting to something so reasonable, right?

It's a good idea, but I have a feeling that she'd find some reason to shoot it down.

I'm in agreement about Judy's hair being purple for the next trip. ::yes:: That would just make our game so much easier! Come on Judy, it's for the DIS!

The support is building here on the DIS, but somehow I still think I'll have trouble convincing her.

Well Glenn, 2 days later I have read your TR and I have to say that was the best I have read so far.

Wow! Judging by the time of your post, you did the 2 days straight! Thank you so much for reading, and posting Markie Mouse! And a hearty :welcome: to you!

I felt like I was there with you guys. You detailed almost every detail that immersed the reader. You have me and my wife thinking about moving our WDW trip from summer 2013 to next summer and just skipping the CarsLand opening Summer. It was awesome! :worship:

Aw, shucks. Thanks.

Hey, why not do 'em both?....2012 and 2013. :)

So when are you going again so I can read the TR and get my WDW fix to hold me over till summer 2012?

Oh...some bad news for you there. The next trip is planned for early summer of 2012, so not in time to hold you over.

It seemed like a good number to me! :thumbsup2

That's actually what I was thinking of, but couldn't remember that name of either of those boozes- and was too lazy to go hunting for them. If I had to choose, I'd go with the Khalua though. Coffee+Choco= Pure Bliss! I'm sure God has a bathtub of that already mixed up for me and waiting.

I don't think I've ever heard God's bathtub described like that, but you just might be right!

Day 8 - Part 8

When we left Pioneer Hall we discovered that it had absolutely poured :umbrella: while we were in the show, so that was very fortunate timing on our part, to have missed it. As we left, it was still kind of drizzling, which isn’t fun, but when you realize that you missed a downpour, it’s not so bad. We walked to the boat dock to catch our transportation back to the Magic Kingdom, and standing there getting a little bit wetter every minute, the boat couldn’t arrive soon enough. Although we only had to wait a few minutes, as we saw our boat approach we all kind of fidgeted in anticipation of getting under cover. It was hard to repress that “c’mon, c’mon” hand motion, (where you move your hand in a circular motion in front of you as if you're fanning your tummy), while we watched them dock and unload their passengers. But soon we were inside, out of the light rain and heading back across the lake to the Magic Kingdom. :boat: (<-- except our boat had a roof on it. ;) )

We didn’t really have any plans, but it was our last night in the parks, and we thought we’d like to see the fireworks and maybe get one more ride on Space Mountain. Because it was rainy, there weren’t a lot of people on Main Street staking-out viewing spots, so we decided it was safe to stay inside as well, until it got closer to 10 o’clock, when the fireworks were scheduled. We went into the Emporium, on the left side of the street as you walk up Main Street. Okay, can I confess that in my several trips to Disney...I had never been in the shops on this side of the street? :scared: I’m not sure why that is, or was, but this was a first. And I thought that they were smaller than they turned out to be, perhaps just façade’s even, so I was a bit amazed at how big the Emporium was. Yet, it didn’t take long before that wore off and I was tired of following Judy around (you ladies sure can shop) and just started leaning on a rack of shirts instead. Then I said that I was going to go check on the fireworks-viewing situation outside. After a little while James joined me, followed shortly thereafter by Marlene and Lauren. I was surprised that Judy was still shopping, and I’ll admit, that maybe I was even a little miffed that she didn’t join us on Main Street until right at 10 o’clock.

I shouldn’t have been irritated because as it turned out, she was just in time to hear this announcement:

:mic:
“Tonight’s showing of Wishes…is temporarily………delayed.”

We were all very disappointed at this turn of events. We looked at each other and said, “Well, what should we do now?”

We decided to go see how long the wait was for Space Mountain, and hoped that the whole rest of the park didn’t have the same idea.

I don’t remember how long the wait-time was, but apparently it wasn’t too outrageous since we decided to go ahead. One nice thing about this particular visit to Space Mountain is that we didn’t have to convince James to ride, or attempt reverse-psychology or anything like that, since he had finally summoned the courage to ride it (and loved it) a couple of days before.

Again, we had fun playing the videogames while in line and we actually got through the line pretty quickly. Soon, our ride pictures were being taken.

The kids.

Judy and I.

Don’t you think it would be better if they put the cameras at a more exciting point of the ride? The ride hasn’t even really begun at the point where the picture is taken now.

The way these pictures look, they could name it “Spaced Mountain”.

And of course I tried to take some pictures of ourselves appearing on the monitors as we exited the ride. Here, I’m trying to look over that glare from the lights.

Yes, Marlene is still rocking that beret!

IMG_4151.jpg

Oh yeah! I kind of like this one.

IMG_4153.jpg

Even though I look a little hunched over. (But you know what that means -- I get to use my favorite smiley!)

smiliehunchback.gif

We came out of Space Mountain and wondered what to do next. It was still kind of rainy and the “Wishes is temporarily delayed” message was still being trumpeted over the loudspeakers every few minutes. We looked around and noticed that there was no line for the People Mover.

Okay, confession time again…I’m pretty sure that this was my first-ever ride on the People Mover, or Tomorrowland Transit Authority, or whatever name it’s going by today. If I was ever on it before, it must have been looong ago, and I don’t remember it.

Anyway, while riding, I was thinking what a great “first-ride-in-Tomorrowland” this would be, since it takes you through and past all of the other rides and describes them to you.
(I can literally hear all of you out there, smacking your foreheads.
Dumb.gif
Sorry! I didn’t know!)

But I’ve always been more interested in actually getting on those other rides, and didn’t want to spend time on a ride that just takes me past them and shows them to me. I thought that the best part of the ride was when we went through Space Mountain. :thumbsup2

When we finished our ride on the People Mover, we decided to make our way toward the exit. The park closed at 11, and it was nearing that time.

As we got to the hub, I took one last (fuzzy) shot of the castle.

IMG_4156.jpg

When we walked down Main Street it was already a couple of minutes after 11.

IMG_4157.jpg

Lauren asked if we could wait a little longer to see the fireworks, but I explained that they’ve been playing this “Delayed” message for over an hour and they’re just not going to have the fireworks after closing. “If they haven’t happened by now, they aren’t happening tonight.”

A little dejected, we slowly walked out of the park. At the exit, the cast members waving goodbye to us with those big, oversized, Mickey-glove-hands helped lift our spirits a little. How can you not smile at that?

We got to the Animal Kingdom Lodge bus stop and almost immediately a bus pulled up for us. Well, now we’re talkin’. At least we still had our bus mojo!

But wait, this is my luck we’re talking about here.

I kid you not, as soon as the driver opened the bus door, and my kids were about to step up onto the bus, we heard a "boom" and saw a flash of light from fireworks in the park. (No, wait, light travels faster than sound…let me try that again.) We 1) saw a flash of light and 2) heard a "boom" from fireworks in the park. (That’s better. Or, at least more accurate.)

My kids and wife looked at me and asked, “What should we do?” I thought for a second and said, “We could walk back, but it’s now after 11, so we can’t get back into the park. And watching from outside, I doubt that we could really see anything over the train station.” “And who knows how long it'll be until another Animal Kingdom Lodge bus arrives?”

“As much as I hate to, I think we should just go.”

So, for us, “The next showing of Wishes is temporarily delayed…” until…

our next trip. :sad1:

And of course, just to rub salt in the wound, we could see those fireworks through our bus windows as we departed. The tinting on the windows made them hard to see, as did the occasional tree or building that we passed. But we could see them going off through the windows on one side of the bus and then the other, as we made various turns.

And they slowly got smaller and fainter as we drove further away from the most Magical of Kingdoms.

For those of you keeping score, this marks two years in a row when I should have listened to my kids regarding the fireworks. (The year before, James had advised that we’d be better off watching the 4th of July fireworks (on the 3rd of July actually) from the beach at the Polynesian. I knew better , and instead we encountered a mob scene at the Magic Kingdom and had a terrible time finding a spot from which to watch.)

I think this might be as good a time as any to list some of the major things that I wanted to do, but that we never got to, on this particular trip. I think the list is rather amazing:

  • Walk through Fantasyland to see the construction (I was curious to see it.)
  • Dole Whips (Missing these is a sin!)
  • Main St. Electrical Parade (Will it be there for our next trip? Doubtful.)
  • Magic Kingdom fireworks (You have to work pretty hard to miss these, don't you?)
There are probably others, but these are what quickly came to mind. How can you be there 8 days and miss these things? Well, you went along with me, people, through this trip report. Was there a point when I zigged that I should have zagged? I don’t think so…sometimes things just don’t work out. You can’t do everything in one trip, and that’s why we Disney freaks are always planning another trip.

But don’t let me leave you on a downer. Even though it didn’t end the way that I’d have liked, this was one of my best days at Disney…ever! This was a day filled with fun, such as:

  • My wonderful Spaceship Earth photo.
  • Quotes, like “Here James…smell beaver butt!”
  • A Grey Goose slushie.
  • The “more rockin’” phone call.
  • Pick a pearl.
  • Hoop de Doo Revue.
  • The most intriguing cowboy picture I’ve ever seen.
  • Yet another ride on Space Mountain.
  • And, my first ride on the People Mover.

Up next: Just relapsing by the pool

Four Judy's. I think...there's alot of reflective things going on here but I'm going to stand by my guess of four.

Oh man, you missed Wishes? That stinks! I sincerely hope you are able to catch it next trip, it's probably one of my favorite things in all of Disney. That and a dole whip float which you didn't get either. Oh Glenn, these two things alone are reason enough to book another trip asap! Trust me.:thumbsup2

I love the pictures from Space Mountain! Lauren and Marlene appear to have the same expression in theirs! So cute. And yay for James not having to be dragged, er I mean coerced, er well, talked into going on again.:rolleyes1 And I agree, the place they snap your picture on the ride is ridiculous. Nobody looks excited yet, the ride has barely begun! Here is exhibit A:
IMG_4147.jpg

I take that back, Judy looks like she's having a blast!

The People Mover is classic Disney, I love it. We ride everytime. So glad to hear you made it on.:thumbsup2

How disappointing to continually hear that Wishes was delayed. I'd have probably done the same though and left at closing assuming it wasn't going to happen. I can only imagine how annoyed I'd be if I was about to set foot on the bus right when I hear/see the first firework of the show.:headache:

Great update as usual. This seemed like such a sweet trip for you and your family. Making those special memories is what trips are all about. Well, apart from the Moroccan fountain one anyway:eek: (poor Marlene).

I almost got all teary eyed when I read the part where you tried to watch Wishes as the bus drove away. That's so sad that you missed it - again! You must make it a top priority for your next trip. Your first time on the People Mover? :rotfl2: Ok, ok. You HAD to expect that. I'm glad to hear you finally got to experience it. What, no thumbs up, energetic Space Mountain photos? You look like your ready to fall asleep!

Oh man, I'm all bummed out reading the ending of your Wishes quest. That SO stinks! I've never seen Wishes, actually, but I've never been that close to fireworks and foiled!

You've never been on the TTA before then??? I love that ride! A nice gentle breeze and a 9 minute rest on a cushiony seat? How can it get better? Oh yes, a little future humor "paging Mr. Tom Morrow..." (who, by the way, was a real person...how awesome is that?)

That is pretty hilarious where Space Mountain takes your picture. They may as well take it while you're waiting in line for the ride.

No one has said 5 yet- and I suspect there may be more than a couple reflective Judys. I'll stick with 5.

And YES, I DID read the update FIRST, but want to make more comments than I have time to right now; going to dinner to some friends right now. TTYL

That STINKS about the fireworks. It seems like not enough time was really spent in MK. Maybe you need to stay at BLT just once to have it close by and then you can cross everything on that list off. :thumbsup2

Wishes over the castle is nice but I still like it from the Poly beach. Less crowds and I can have a drink in my hand while I enjoy them. :drinking1

That is my "Must do" now. :cloud9:

I love the peoplemover. It is such a nice paced ride where you can just sit down, recompose yourself, and enjoy the sites.

Awww...thats sad that you missed wishes. We didn't see it on our last visit either.

That's too bad about Wishes! But if it makes you feel any better, we managed not see any fireworks, anywhere on our last trip. Needless to say, that MUST be rectified in July. :lmao: But I think you're attitude is right on...you can't do everything, every time and that's the great part about knowing these trips aren't just a once in a lifetime kind of thing. Makes it a lot easier to roll with things as they come and enjoy each and every moment for what it is.

:welcome: jecskc!!! Thank you so much! I'm thinking that I probably have 3 more chapters of TR material, and then I might do some "best of" to wrap-up, like I did in my '09 trip report. Our next trip will be in 2012, but we haven't really started any planning yet. 42 days huh? How exciting! Where're you staying?

We are staying at Old Key West - 1 BR suite. Renting DVC points for the first time. AND doing the dining plan for the first time. I can't wait !!! Did I say that already ?? Well, I can't !! :) I'll do a trip report for sure !!

I gave up on the Judy contest so I'm not even offering a guess. (:

I didn't even know they took pictures on Space Mountain. When did they start this?

You've NEVER been on the People Mover? Have you been living in a cave? That is one of our things to do for a relaxing ride and rest our feet (and why so many people take the "feet" picture).

Too bad that you missed Wishes. I have to say that I would be totally upset if I missed Wishes...it is my favorite.

Four Judy's. I think...there's alot of reflective things going on here but I'm going to stand by my guess of four.

I know of 3, and think that's the answer. If you can point out a specific fourth, I'm willing to consider it....but I think it's 3.

Yep, missed it. We'll have to make it a bigger priority next time.

We had Dole Whip floats back in '09 and they were wonderful. The timing just didn't work out...the one time we were thinking about it, we were heading to a big lunch at Whispering Canyon.

:rotfl2: regarding your "exhibit A" quote.

I take that back, Judy looks like she's having a blast!

Yeah, she was all "woo hoo!" :woohoo:

The People Mover is classic Disney, I love it. We ride everytime. So glad to hear you made it on.:thumbsup2

Yes, finally!

How disappointing to continually hear that Wishes was delayed. I'd have probably done the same though and left at closing assuming it wasn't going to happen. I can only imagine how annoyed I'd be if I was about to set foot on the bus right when I hear/see the first firework of the show.:headache:

I reaaaally thought that they weren't going to happen. It wouldn't have been so bad if we'd have driven away and never knew that they finally went off.

Great update as usual. This seemed like such a sweet trip for you and your family. Making those special memories is what trips are all about. Well, apart from the Moroccan fountain one anyway:eek: (poor Marlene).

Thank you!

I think you'll remember the Moroccan fountain one almost as long as Marlene will.

I'm going to say 3 Judys.... now going back to read

I think you're our winner! I'm going to give Molly a little bit of time to demonstrate a fourth Judy, but I think "3" is right.

I almost got all teary eyed when I read the part where you tried to watch Wishes as the bus drove away. That's so sad that you missed it - again! You must make it a top priority for your next trip.

Aw, thanks. There are plenty of TRs around that pull on your heartstrings, way more than this one though.

Your first time on the People Mover? :rotfl2: Ok, ok. You HAD to expect that. I'm glad to hear you finally got to experience it.

Yes, I pretty much expected that. It's okay, I can take it.

What, no thumbs up, energetic Space Mountain photos? You look like your ready to fall asleep!

You know what? I completely forgot about the camera until the picture was taken, and then I thought, "Oh, I should have done something! Drat!" :headache:

Oh man, I'm all bummed out reading the ending of your Wishes quest. That SO stinks! I've never seen Wishes, actually, but I've never been that close to fireworks and foiled!

Thanks Stringbean. I know you've seen illuminations though. It was in your TR. ;)

You've never been on the TTA before then??? I love that ride! A nice gentle breeze and a 9 minute rest on a cushiony seat? How can it get better? Oh yes, a little future humor "paging Mr. Tom Morrow..." (who, by the way, was a real person...how awesome is that?)

Well, no. But now I have! Yes, we got a kick out of the audio portion.

That is pretty hilarious where Space Mountain takes your picture. They may as well take it while you're waiting in line for the ride.

You're exactly right! They might as well take it while you're in line! :lmao:

I am going with 3 Judys this time.

I believe you're right, but not the first with that answer. Which is pretty common for you, if I'm not mistaken.

No one has said 5 yet- and I suspect there may be more than a couple reflective Judys. I'll stick with 5.

Good strategy. I think there are only 3, but if you can point out 5, I'll run 'em by the Rules Committee.

And YES, I DID read the update FIRST, but want to make more comments than I have time to right now; going to dinner to some friends right now. TTYL

Thanks for reading :) and I hope you had a great dinner.

That STINKS about the fireworks. It seems like not enough time was really spent in MK. Maybe you need to stay at BLT just once to have it close by and then you can cross everything on that list off. :thumbsup2

This trip wasn't very MK-centric. I think because we had the PChef party at DHS one night, and a couple of days at Epcot with the "do over". But that's okay, I don't regret anything.

Wishes over the castle is nice but I still like it from the Poly beach. Less crowds and I can have a drink in my hand while I enjoy them. :drinking1

That is my "Must do" now. :cloud9:

I want to see them once from the park and once from the beach. Not sure if I can spare that many evenings though....there's lots of other stuff competing for time!

We always just said "we'll get to it next time."

And then made sure there was a next time :D

That's the spirit! Great advice Kelly!

I love the peoplemover. It is such a nice paced ride where you can just sit down, recompose yourself, and enjoy the sites.

It was nice, but we're always so "go go go" that we probably won't do it that often.

Awww...thats sad that you missed wishes. We didn't see it on our last visit either.

I guess it will have to be a priority for next time (for you and me both).

That's too bad about Wishes! But if it makes you feel any better, we managed not see any fireworks, anywhere on our last trip. Needless to say, that MUST be rectified in July. :lmao:

You reminded me that we did get to see fireworks at DHS that one night. So yeah, your situation was worse. :rotfl2: ;)

But I think you're attitude is right on...you can't do everything, every time and that's the great part about knowing these trips aren't just a once in a lifetime kind of thing. Makes it a lot easier to roll with things as they come and enjoy each and every moment for what it is.

Very well said Tina!

We are staying at Old Key West - 1 BR suite. Renting DVC points for the first time. AND doing the dining plan for the first time. I can't wait !!! Did I say that already ?? Well, I can't !! :) I'll do a trip report for sure !!

Hey, Marvin (Marvali on here) is staying at Old Key West also, I think around the same time.

Are you excited yet? Well, you better start! Are you walking everyday, to get your stamina built up?

Let us know when you start your trip report, so that we don't miss it. :thumbsup2

I gave up on the Judy contest so I'm not even offering a guess. (:

Somehow I think Judy appreciates that.

I didn't even know they took pictures on Space Mountain. When did they start this?

It was part of the refurb they did in 2009. They added the videogames in the standby line, the photograph as the ride starts, the monitors and things after you get off (I think), and supposedly changed the ride a little bit.

You've NEVER been on the People Mover? Have you been living in a cave? That is one of our things to do for a relaxing ride and rest our feet (and why so many people take the "feet" picture).

:rotfl2:

Yes, yes, yes. I've been living in a cave. Actually, I've seen so many feet pictures in TRs that I didn't feel like I had to ride it.

Too bad that you missed Wishes. I have to say that I would be totally upset if I missed Wishes...it is my favorite.

We had a lot of good evenings where we did other things, but we'll give it another shot next time!

I know of 3, and think that's the answer. If you can point out a specific fourth, I'm willing to consider it....but I think it's 3.

Upon closer inspection, I believe I made an error:sad2:. It looks like three to me now too. The image I was questioning was this one which I now see isn't Judy (her tank top is different:headache:)
IMG_4153.jpg

:rotfl2: regarding your "exhibit A" quote.

This picture ranks right up there with your Spaceship Earth and Marv meeting ones! You should seriously consider using one of them for your avatar!

Yeah, she was all "woo hoo!" :woohoo:

At least she was enthusiastic, unlike the man sitting behind her...:rolleyes1

I think you'll remember the Moroccan fountain one almost as long as Marlene will.

:rotfl: I think so!

I think you're our winner! I'm going to give Molly a little bit of time to demonstrate a fourth Judy, but I think "3" is right.

Sigh, there are only three. Jen, you're obviously more adept at this than I am so I bow to your worthy skills.:cheer2:

Yep, I think it paid off. But we have to see what Molly comes up with.

Double sigh. Just when I think it's in my grasp, I lose it. Again.:headache::laughing: I'm noticing a trend here now...
