Hi!! I have my plan more less put together. But I want to check to see what your child thought was boring/not interesting or scary. I have a 5yrs old. She's pretty brave and fun as long as I'm there and she can watch all of Harry Potter movies without closing her eyes.

I just learned about the Stitch show being scary and boring so we're skipping it. Anything else I need to be aware of? Are rides like Winnie-the-Pooh too kiddy-ish? We only have two days at MK so I need to pick and choose.

I've booked her for many things, even E&A and the new Seven Dwarf ride. I watched the video of the ride and it looks really slow. This will be her first coaster kind of ride. I also booked Kali Rapid. I think that should be fine too. She goes around the Alice in Wonderland Teacup kind of ride just fine (I on the other hand get really dizzy but I just suck it up :D).

I have read the descriptions of the different rides as much as I could but being a noob, your experience would help me greatly I believe in polishing up our plans.

Thank you!!

I don't know what height is for Dinosaur at AK, but that is my least favorite ride anywhere. I don't like the darkness or the jouncing around. I am also a wimp about dark and don't do scary either. I close my eyes in Great Movie Ride for Alien every time, even if I got used to other parts. YMMV

I have never been brave enough to ride Stitch after being in that building for Alien Encounter! No way, no how.

Pooh, Peter Pan, etc. are rides that are CLASSICS! They are by no means thrill rides and basically you are moving through a visual story. I can't imagine a 5 year old girl not enjoying them.....I am a 39 year old girl and I love them! (As do my DD17 and DS10)

I'm not sure what the height restrictions are on any of the rides so sorry if I mention things she can't do because of height.

AK -
Dinosaur is loud and IMO a jerky ride. While both of my kids handled it fine, I know others have not.

Expedition Everest - while she should be able to do it, I wouldn't do it as her 1st more adventurous ride. While my son likes (some) coasters, this one proved a challenge for him. The backward feature freaked him out. He did however go back and go on 2-3 more times during that trip

Kali River Rapids - she will LOVE! But be prepared to get WET!

HS -
Rockin Rollercoaster - both kids liked and went on again but DD made us walk the walk of shame and go out the bail out door 2x before she would do it. Only ride that goes upside down!

Tower of Terror - really not as bad as it sounds. Both kids enjoyed!

Toy Story Mania - must do!

Epcot
Be sure to look into the kidcot stations - both of my kids enjoyed the craft aspect and collecting the shapes for their mardi gras type mask that they made. Mexico & Norway (I think those are the 2 countries) also have a smallish boat ride that she will enjoy. Soarin, Test Track, Spaceship Earth, The land, are all okay for her. Only ride I would question would be mission space - especially if the tea cups make YOU sick. We have never ridden on this ride as my kids were too young (IMO) at the time - thinking about it this upcoming trip though.

MK
Nothing in MK to me is something to avoid. My sons 1st roller coaster ever was Big Thunder Mountain.

As for boring at WDW in general, there was stuff we avoided just because the kids weren't at the appropriate age to really get anything out of it - American Idol Experience comes to mind, so you know your child. I would advise working up to the more "intense" rides. Go on Goofy's Barnstormer 1st, then try Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Coaster. Leave the BIG coasters like Expedition Everest & Rockin Rollercoaster for later in your trip. I would also advise giving your daughter a heads up as to what a 3-d show is all about. It's a Bugs life freaked my daughter out so bad she was afraid to go into dark theaters in WDW after that..... Telling her that during this show they might squirt her as water, "tickle" her, etc. will prepare her for the interactive part of the show. I LOVE Mickey's Philhamonic & It's a Bugs Life but they can be traumatic to an unsuspecting child. Shows like Hall of Presidents and such can be boring but they were great places to stop, take in some air conditioning, and rest without the constant stream of stimulation that the "more exciting" places and shows offered so I would work them in for when your daughter needs to "get away" but you really don't want to go back to your resort for a rest.

She's too short for Dinosaur so that's not in our agenda but while she loves dinosaurs, she always ask me to carry her through the T-Rex exhibit at the Natural History Museum in London :D She'll beg to go but right before the T-Rex she'd ask me to carry her while she peeks. It's kinda cute :)

Gotcha!! Thanks!

Thanks for this!! All the coaster rides except for Seven Dwarf and the log drop-ish Maelstrom are the only two "thrill" rides dd can do. She's too short for all the rest.

I'll keep the Bugs Life info in mind. Dd, since she was a baby, is terrified of bugs. I mean TERRIFIED! While she's ok watching Death Eaters sucking the life out of people, she can't have even a fly come near without screaming her head off. So I'm not sure, based on your description, if I should take her to Bugs Life :)

The only things that scared my kids at age 5 were It's Tough to be a Bug, The Great Movie Ride, and Stitch (ok well we didn't do that one but it would have scared them). They weren't thrilled with the beginning of Haunted Mansion, but they liked the second half of it. DD loved the ride part of ToT but wasn't too keen on the beginning "show" part. And honestly they were a little scared of Maelstrom, mostly because it's so dark. They love thrill rides, it's more the feeling of being in a scary scenario that frightens them.

It's cute, it's funny but because it's 3-D, I never thought to warn my two about it. There is scene where you get squirted with water - very brief and like someone shooting you with a water pistol, then another scene where the bugs run through the theater and you hear lots of footsteps and your seat kind of pokes you (no pain of course) like they are running through the theater where the audience is. Maybe do Mickey's philharmonic 1st so she gets the idea of what the 3-d is and emphasize the "it's pretend" factor before going into It's a bug. Maybe let her sit on your lap so as to not have her get the walking by sensation part of the 3-d. You can also try to get an end seat so if it's too much for her, you can make a quick exit.

don't forget Buzz Lightyear and Dumbo at MK!:thumbsup2 I think some of the que's for the rides are almost as fun as riding it. POTC is another one that seems like it might be a little scary at first, but if she has seen the movies she will most likely think it is really cool. I know one of my DS favorites at 5 (and still at 19) is the Monorail lol. Take a break and so the loop to Epcot and back. If AK doesn't have much for her to ride take in the FOTL show, it is soooo goood and a nice break from park touring.

If she loves dinosaurs but is too short for the ride, you may consider a meal at the dinosaur themed restaurant in DTD.

If your daughter does not like bugs, do not go see "It's tough to be a bug."

Trust me. We tried it with my daughter. I think we made it about 2 minutes before leaving.

My daughter, who turned five last October during our trip loved everything we went on - We rode Star Tours 3 times in a row and she adored the Haunted Mansion. She also really enjoyed the Great Movie Ride - thought the Alien part was funny for some reason :rotfl:

But she also loved Dumbo, tomorrowland speedway and other 'kiddie' rides.

We didn't get to do all the rides - character meetings took up a big chuck of time.

But the whole story, the whole movie, is about bugs. So that's not going to work for a bug-phobic person.
