Most annoying vocabulary blunders

Spoken grammar problems often bug me but I don't really care about written spelling and grammar errors on a message board. A typo's a typo and should be no big deal.

I've never "corrected" anybody (other than my kids) but some spoken malaprops that bug me are:

the confusion of "less" and "fewer"
Using "seen" when they should have used "saw"
Using "ideal" when they should have used "idea"
Using any of the "cute" slang phrases of the day - "my bad", "get my mind around it", "it's all good", etc.

AHHHH! This is definately my pet peeve.....I have to laugh though, my DH use to use this word all the time, now I can see him stop mid sentence and smile using "regardless".


One more:

My DH's side of the family use of the word, "for" , like this:

" I am going to the store for I can pick up milk and bread". It drives me insane! The adults use it and now their children use it that way, except my children DH doesn't do that either, but everyone else does on that side.

When people say "infamous" the wrong way. -- like "I'll bring my infamous chocolate cake dessert!"

I HATE THAT! I thought it was only regional. I don't seem to hear it when we travel but every single day by educated people I hear this, "Let me axe you something...". I know they can spell the word correctly but they pronounce it axe instead of ask.

Trust me, it isn't regional. When people say that, I want to ask them, "Do you have any idea how ignorant you sound when you say that?"

I agree that "prolly" does sound trailer trashy.
