Mosquitos?

We usually go to DLR at the end of July and I've never seen or felt a mosquito once. Can't say for this exact moment as I'm not there yet, but I've never had trouble with them.

My daughter is highly allergic to mosquitoes and I can say that both on both of our summer trips we never saw any of them. I am always on the lookout for them. So, you shouldnt have any problems with them.

I have never needed to use any kind of bug spray when at Disneyland and I don't recall ever seeing mosquitos. Now, WDW is another matter!

Not an issue at DLR or pretty much anywhere in SoCal for that matter - except maybe in the mountains near water.

So true- mosquitos are not an issue here. I'm a former east coaster that used to be a total mosquito magnet. It may be just about my favorite thing about southern california!

No mosquitos in socal, at least I have never seen one.

hehe, if you ever decide to visit our local mountains, especially during the summer, or the beaches during the evening, you will meet them.

At DLR, not really an issue though.

I have to correct you, HydroGuy - and Jack & the donut, too. I live and have always lived in SoCal - in the same basic area of SoCal my entire life - and mosquitoes have chomped on me more times than I can count. I live nowhere near the mountains or water. When they want to find you, they find you. Anyone who is really severely prone to mosquito bites knows that if you have sweet blood, they will find you if they are hungry. You might not have really sweet blood and that's why they didn't get you when you used to live here!:rotfl2: So it could be a very big problem for some people, but not for others.

I haven't had as much of a problem with mosquitoes in DLR as I have outside of DLR, however. DLR is pretty good at 'bug control.'

Ok, ok, ok. I lived in Ohio for five years and they have mosquitos. SoCal has little wannabe mosquitos.

Interestingly, I am in SoCal tonight and we were outside in my folks backyard playing some cards. And a mosquito landed on my arm. I was like "what is a mosquito doing here?" and I thought of this thread!

The little guy was a poor excuse for a mosquito and any good mid-westerner would have laughed at him. So I will amend my statement - there may be a few mosquitos around SoCal but it is nothing, nothing like the swarms of evil little buzzing critters you see in places like Ohio. In fact they are so few you would likely think there are none at all.

How did I do?

:laughing:I sent that mosquito over to you to prove a point that we have them in SoCal!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Well, if there are only a few in SoCal, then those few have found me repeatedly over the years!:rotfl2: I don't know about the size of mosquitoes in SoCal in comparison to the ones in Ohio...or Florida...or Louisiana...or wherever. All I know is that when my legs and arms have been bitten all over, from top to bottom, by these things, I'm not thinking, "Good thing these are not like other mosquitoes in other states!" Instead I tend to be muttering under my breath, "What is up with these [bleep][bleep] mosquitoes and why won't they leave me alone?!":rotfl2::rotfl2:

I am very glad that in SoCal we don't appear to have the giant, flying palmetto bugs that prowl the southern states. I think those would freak me out.

I believe what you are saying but after living in Manhatten Beach, Culver City and other socal places I have never had the mosquito experience. I think the smag was useful at keeping them at bay.Where I live now in SE Wa they are out every night. I have just never seen a mosquito at DLR.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, supposed to be 100+ today.

Jack

Guess you're there enjoying a great time, now. Anyway, never experienced mosquito problems while visiting DLR. Can't recall even one bite.

I'll see your mosquito and raise you 876 642. WE have mosquitos. I love my city...but you know when tourist places have postcards that say "The Mosquito: the bird of Winnipeg" that you have a problem. Sigh.

Sherry...I will be thinking of you and laughing as the one and only mosquito in SoCal finds me. The city can have fogged for mosquitos the night before, and the next day everyone will be commenting on how it's so nice not to have any, and 3 minutes later I'll have 7 bites. No doubt one of them will be between my fingers and 2 more on the bottom of my feet.

;)

:rotfl2:You'll probably be lucky in that you most likely will not have any mosquito encounters in DLR. They are not 100% bug free, but they do a pretty good job of keeping most pests out or away from public view.

As for your other stops while in SoCal, you might run into some hungry mosquitoes. If you have sweet blood like I do (and it sounds like you do), they might seek you out and chomp on you unless take the usual precautions like wearing long pants and shirts with sleeves, or spraying yourself down with Off or something.

I have had those pesky bites between my fingers too. I have also had bites between my toes and on my toes and fingers (below my knuckles). I have even had bites on the very tips of my toes. Mostly, the mosquitoes chomp on my legs, and I could go from having no bites to suddenly having lots of bites in a couple of hours - and I never even knew I was getting bitten!

What's worse is that some of these mosquitoes carry encephalitis (there was a heightened encephalitis warning/scare a few years ago here in SoCal), so you never know if you're just getting a regular annoying bite or getting a horrible illness.

DL's in freaking California. I don't think there's been a Mosquito there in a hundred years.

Sorry - wrong! I have lived in "freaking California" for 43 years, and I am living, breathing proof that there are mosquitoes here. I have no reason to make things up. I'm glad for all of you who have not had encounters with them, but I have. Your experience is different than mine. We don't all have the same exact experiences in life, you know.

I believe you Sherry!

Sherry, I think all the bugs must live near your house. I am sorry for you but happy for everyone else. :rolleyes1
