We are planning on a September trip to disney(last week of sept). How are the mosquitos that time of year? I just thought of this because here in Tx it is MISERABLE. They are everywhere and we can barely walk out the house anytime of day without getting bit bad. It would not be worth it to me if they are like that down there. I know mosquito season is from June-Nov. So, how is it in FL this time of year???

Here in TX, it is much worse than years past....ugh....I HATE mosquitoes!

I believe it's bad all over due to the warmer winter and the wet spring. There will be mosquitos there in September, how bad no one will know until September comes. I suggest you bring and use some type of repellent. You could also try fabric softener sheets tied on your belt loop....people say that works to keep them away....I'm going to try it this year in my own backyard(Long Island, NY) and see if it works, if not, the repellent comes with me in october!

yeah, I Guess....phooey. Looks like I may just go ahead and wait until April/May of next year anyway. We are totally miserable here with them, but have been able to somewhat avoid them at night. I'd hate to get there and not be out when I wanted to. It wouldn't be as big a deal if I wouldn't have an 11mo old at the time. Not too keen on insecticide on him yet, or not every night. Thanks!

I have visited WDW several times during the last week of September and we never had a problem with them. I didn't need any insecticide at all. I'm told that Disney sprays resorts after midnight each night.

Me, too....We always go in Sept./Oct. during the Yom Kippur and/or Columbus Day breaks and Not Once have I even noticed a mosquito in the parks. I've never brought repellant with me, either. I thought AK was the only park that May have a problem and they close at 5:00 or 6:00 daily. But we always do AK in the morning/early afternoon.

I'm up on the Island, too, and last year we got one of those mosquito machines that emit the CO 2 from the propane tank. It works really well, Wendy!

Kimberly, the only prevalent insect I see during the fall are the famous Kissing Bugs, and they hurt no one :goodvibes I think they were even "invented" to eat mosquitos, but that didn't work. They're harmless - they're just like lightening bugs.

Whatever you decide, have a great time

I've been hundreds of times during the typical mosquito season and I've never been bit on Disney property...I don't know what their secret is, and I'm usually a big target for mosquitos, but I've never had a problem.

Like a previous poster said, the most annoying bug you are likely to encounter are our wonderful Love Bugs, but the most they will do is fly around your head, or gum up the front of your car if you are driving around property....but they are harmless.

We've been there twice in Sept and never had a problem with mosquitos either. We love it because the parks are empty and there is almost no waits for any of the rides.

You are not making this easier...lol I was waiting for you to say "OH, it's HORRIBLE, you can't come" and my decision would've been made for me...lol Looks like we'll be going....YIPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and we have bad lovebugs in TX too.....hate those too, but at least they don't bite.....

We had some problems with mosquitos in June, we packed some deep woods off in little individual packets (wipes) and used them in the evenings.
Hope those darn lovebugs are not around, we had experienced with them one September and ickkkk- if your wearing white they will be all over you. Just annoying!

I know that the mosquitos aren't as bad as in other places as Disney does make efforts to eliminate them, however I have had bites in September and other times of the year. I always put on something when I will be out in shorts around dusk, especially if near water, e.g. World Showcase. I guess I am one of the juicy ones that the skeeters like.

We've never had a problem with mosquitoes on any Disney property. I don't know if it is because they do something to eridicate them, or because there are many more people around for them to choose from than us.

Agreed, the ones here in Texas are horrible. We've had a wet year, and that has made them worse. Looking forward to our Sept. trip to escape from them a little while!

We went last September and never remember having any problems with mosquitos. However, we stayed at the FW cabins and the boat rides at night were horrible!!! We had reservations one night at Chef Mickey's and took a boat ride to Contemporary, and when we came out to go back to our cabin there were just swarms of summertime bugs on the boat docks and all over the ceiling and seats in the boat. We had to wait for the Light parade on the water and I thought I was going to die having to stand out there with all these bugs on everything!! When we docked, it was horrible too because of the swarms around the lights and I ran from the boat to off the pier because I couldn't stand all the bugs-but I'm not an outside type of person either, though.

We have decided never to go again in September not only because of the bugs but because it is so hot and humid.

Hope this helps!

I've been several times and I have never noticed any mosquitos. Believe me, they like me so if they are there I would notice!:rotfl2:

As in all things, WDW goes out of their way to ensure the comfort of their guests.

We have been in September and not had a problem. Never a problem Jan/Feb. So it never crossed my mind when we went in May to take repellant!! I got eaten alive at Magic Kingdom!!!

I actually saw one feeding on my leg and took several swipes to knock it off. When it finally went, I was bleeding!

A couple of days later I had 8 bites on my legs!!! I will definately be taking repellant next time!

It is not 'common' to be bitten by mosquitoes in WDW, however, it does happen - after 30 some years of trips, last October we were swarmed in MK while waiting for MNSSHP to start! Fortunately we take protecting ourselves from mosquito bites very seriously as we lost a very healthy 52 yo family member to West Nile Virus at the end of summer 2003. There have been over 14,000 documented US cases of WNV in the last 3 years. Here's some info for anyone interested in checking their local stats (so much info we wish we'd known): http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/westnile/surv&control.htm
:thumbsup2 The little OFF! individual packets (wipies) are soooo easy to carry - please place a few in your bag - better safe than sorry!! :smooth:

You know, when you don't see something plastered in huge letters in the newspaper or on TV news shows, it's easy to forget.
We have one of those Mosquito Magnets in our backyard and last year we had a disgusting basket full of dead mosquitos. You never know if one of them is a carrier. Sorry about your family member. You're right - it's better to be safe than sorry
