Moscow Mules

That's kind of my point. The drink has been around since the 40s. The sudden popularity (as evidenced by this thread) and the copper mugs in every bar, that's the fad part. Hey it's a good drink. I prefer a Dark and Stormy myself. I'm just not going to rush out and buy copper mugs!

I have pilsner glasses, hefeweizen glasses, pint glasses, stout glasses, and a few others mixed in (home brewer with multiple kegs). I like my bar well stocked with both booze (including Goslings dark rum) and drink ware!!

I gave my DH a homemade Moscow Mule set for Christmas a couple of years ago. I included 4 copper mugs, limes, bottles of ginger beer, and a bottle of vodka. We had had them on the El Tovar porch at the Grand Canyon that summer, and they were so good. We mixed up a batch and both hated them! They were waaaay too spicy! Maybe we used too much ginger beer or the wrong brand of ginger beer (Goya brand).
I had to revisit this thread because we FINALLY got the Moscow Mule recipe right and boy are they delicious!

Over Ice:
1.5 oz vodka
.5 oz lime juice
4 oz Gosling's Ginger Beer
lime wedge

Using enough lime juice and the right ginger beer (Gosling's - good verses Goya - not good) made all the difference!

I've had a couple 'Moscow Mules" over the years.

Nice girls, just a little rough around the edges. . .

;)

My DW loves them, and got "us" a set of copper mugs last summer. She says the ones at Bonefish Grill are very good, but the best she's had were at the 19th Hole at the Biltmore in Coral Gables. She tried one at the El Tovar last summer and was unimpressed.

So we're on a cruise and they're mixing Moscow Mules and I don't like Vodka. What to do. Substitute spiced rum for the vodka, orange slices instead of limes fresh shaving of ginger and of course the ginger beer. Sublime.
