WOW

Let's see...a critically acclaimed rapper, actor, and broadway performer is washed up? His song was so dope, Jumpan (nike) wanted to use a song he wrote for his mother in their commercial (albeit 2 years later than when it came out). He is one of the dopest out. A man who raps about society's problems (check out "mathematics" and "water") is 100 times better than 50 Cent and it's a shame that 50 and his wack lyrics are considered some of the illest today when the whole Rawkus label (mos def, talib kweli, pharoahe monch, cocoa brovaz, skillz, hi-tek) takes a huge sh1t on 50, D-12, and Obie Trice (all of whom white america has embraced because of the great white hype eminem).

im not denying the fact that there are talented heads out there who aren't popluar (copywrite, cage, demigodz, camu tao, eon, etc..), but theres a reason theyre not popular.

you can argue it a million times over- fact of the matter is that mos def didnt sell almost a million albums in week like my man 50. as simple as 50's lyrics are, he's catchy, he's an icon, and obviously he's giving the majority of the people what they wanna hear.

but you have to realize that a majority of the people who bought his records only buy them because Eminem is riding around with him. Where were they 4 years ago around the time of the In Too Deep Sdtk./Power of the Dollar and after that when he was just puttin' out mixtapes and released "Guess Who's Back" last May. Nowhere. 50 knows that by gettin' in bed w/ Em, he made himself a surefire success. If he had signed with ANYBODY else (columbia..again, bad boy, def jam, etc.) he would not be as big as he was today. He is putting out another CD at the end of this year and it's because he knows in 1-2 years nobody will remember him. he wants to cash in on his success while he still has it.

...whats the problem? this IS a business.

and people DID like 50 years back, but he wasnt as popular. i mean, u make it sound like no one listened to the guy. i first heard him on this track 'how to rob.' mad funny track. the reason why he wasnt popular years ago is because he wasnt as nice as he is today. he's definitely elevated his style and expanded his repetoire. get rich or die trying has a more professional sound than sporadic mix tape tracks. also consider the drastic change in beat making. when you've got guys as talented as em and dre in the studio making your beats, you've got it made.

it seemed as if you're discrediting 50 simply because he rolls with em. i dont think tahts fair. obviously, em thought 50 was talented and had potential. i doubt he woudl sign anyone that he didnt feel would be able to withstand the test of time.

mos def should rethink is marketing and his content if he wants to become more popular. that goes for every other crappy emcee out there. not saying that mos def is crappy, but his beats are incomparable to any track on get rich or die trying. maybe he should switch his style up. stop talking politics, perhaps. why do u think the beasie boys song isnt getting constant radio air time? because at a time of war, people turn to music/movies to get away the harsh reality. when i've had a day filled with war images on CNN, i turn to music to offer something a little more further from reality. at times, politics is the last thing i wanna hear about.

I disagree. 50 was nicer BACK THEN. You can barely understand his mumblin' *** today. I am not discrediting him because he rolls with em...I think em is one of the best ever to do it...I am simply saying his joints now are wack. GRODT was good for about 2 listens...if that.

first off...crappy beat making?! I would really like to know if you have heard the Black Star CD, Lyricist Lounge, or Black on Both Sides. How can you say such producers as Hi-Tek, Ayatollah, Rocwilder, Kanye West, Scott Storch (who is responsible for helping Dre on many beats), Psycho Les (of the beatnuts), and DJ Premier (who is on par if not greater than dre) are not in the same arena as dre or any other producers on GRODT. they are ALL better than eminem's producing. Not everything Mos Def does is political (See: brown sugar sdtk, "joy", and others) but they all have one thing in common in that the man rarely comes wack on the mic. His singles that he has released are not political ("Ms. Fat Booty", "Umi Says", "Respiration", "Brown Sugar", "Oh No" and many more). That is why he went GOLD, and he is one of the only underground rappers to acheive such success.
