"Morning Sickness" HELP!!!

I also had hyperemesis gravidarum with my pregnancy, so the only thing that worked for me was IVs, drugs, and surgery to put a port in so I could get nutrition- I wouldn't reccommend it. BUT- I do reccommend the hyperemesis website www.helpher.org LOTS of good info and suggestions that will be helpful for morning (noon and night) sickness.

And they DO reccommend the unisom/B6 thing!

I got nothing but this.

It was so bad with DD that all I ate was cereal because it was easier on the way up. I loved Cherry 7up, and cherry limeaid from Sonic.

Hang in there.

I forgot to put salty potato chips and toast in the list...I've tried those.

It's just....well, imagine the worst case of a stomach virus...that moment right before you throw up...it's here all day. Every day for a week now. And it's killing me because I get the dry heaves and those are worse than throwing up. My stomach muscles hurt like crazy!!

I just took a shower and almost stood in there and cried because I've never experienced anything like this and I don't know when it's going to end. At least with a stomach virus you know within a few days it will be gone. Each morning I wake up and I have no idea when it's going to end :(

I also want to mention that my first OB was NOT proactive enough when I had HG!!! She kept telling me, "well, you're going to throw up" (duh)- but what I had was waaaaay worse than just throwing up now and again- it was constant. I lost close to 30 lbs. SO- I switched doctors, and he was very aggressive in my treatment and I felt SO much better. There are lots of prescriptions you can try: reglan, compazine, zofran (my fav), or phenergan.

If you feel unheard, speak louder!

I think you need to call the dr. again and tell them what you wrote right here.

AND, this is going to sound gross, but there are some things that if you HAVE to throw up, aren't so bad TO throw up:

rice krispie treats and hot chocolate weren't as bad as, say, cheese and crackers. And I could handle the smell of hot chocolate.

ETA: I just had to add a  because I know how awful that feeling is. It will get better! I know you're thinking "yea, right... when?" because I thought that too! But it will.

AMEN!!!!

My DD from my first HG pregnancy is about to turn 11. HG was not even mentioned. Fortunately, one of the docs in the practice had just read that the FDA had recently approved Zofran for use in pregnant women. At that point I was down over 25 pounds, so what could it hurt. Thankfully it worked well enough to get me to delivery and a healthy baby. That said, be pushy and obnoxious with your doctor and his/her staff. To you, you are the most important person, but to them, you are one of many.

My 1st pregnancy I was so sick for the whole thing, and DD came out fine and healthy. I remember the feelings you have described and being there.

My 2nd pregnancy I was going to WDW 8 weeks pregnant (planned before the pregnancy) and when I mentioned my fear of vomiting around WDW he took pity on me and gave me Zofran. Treated those pills like gold (and they are about the same price $30 for one pill. Thank goodness my insurance would cover 15 a month. I think I only took 30 or so, only when I really needed them. Just knowing I had them if necessary helped me cope a lot better.

This baby also came out healthy and happy.

Best of luck. I so remember being there.

Oh, kiddy vitamins taste a lot better coming back up then prenates so that is what I took for a long time.

Red Hot hard candy balls. This worked for me, but I was so worried about getting sick on our drive to disney, my Dr. gave me a prescription for Zofran as well. The meds did work better then the candy. BUT the candy was cheaper!

I had morning sickness this time around. I realized I had it on the days after I forgot to take my vitamin (I took mine before going to bed). Some say one of the B vitamins helps morning sickness.

Sour Patch Kids!!!!!!! Sweet and Sour! They work great for me, this time around the only time I feel sick is when I dont eat, I'm gonna pack on some pounds at this rate!

I was sick pretty much the whole 9 months with my pregnancy and what I found worked for me was drinking caffeine free coke at room temperature. I wasn't sure why it was helping me but my husband pointed out that cola syrup is used as a natural remedy for upset stomachs. Whatever the reason, it always worked and after drinking a can of it, I was able to eat a good meal and everything stayed down. I also found that drinking any cold beverages upset my stomach, so even when I drank water, I drank it at room temperature, and this is why I drank the coke at room temperature. Hope this helps - good luck and best wishes for a healthy pregnancy!

This is exactly how it was for me with this pregnancy (I didn't have any m/s at all with my first). I had dry heaves, tons of gagging, and horrible nausea all day long but never actually vomited. Nothing completely worked for me but there were a few things that helped a little. My OB had me take a B6 vitamin once in the morning and once in the evening. It didn't make the m/s go away but I did notice that it helped a bit. I also kept saltines in my glove compartment in my car and in my purse and in my backpack just in case. I was not a fan of food for quite a while but could stomach those since they were bland and they helped a little. The thing that helped the most though was laying down with a wet washcloth on my forehead. I noticed when I began to feel queasy that I also would feel flushed and feel hot. The wet washcloth helped with that and the cooler I felt, the better I felt.

As far as how long it will last...that could vary. For me it lasted from 5.5 weeks till 13.5 weeks and I sure don't miss it! Oh, and I actually did have the stomach virus last month for 48 hours. That was so much fun as well.

I hope you feel better soon!

I'm so sorry. :guilty:

What worked for me was having some crackers or something light to eat before I got out of bed, then eating whenever I started to feel sick (which was darn near all the time!) So I ate a lot of snacks, not really meals.

Don't know if that will help you, but I hope something does. :flower3:

This is what my OB/Gyn suggested. But you have to eat the crackers before you sit up in bed. I also found Sprite, or a clear carbonated soda, helped a little.

As sick as you are, I would talk to you doctor again.

The good news is for most people, it passes at about 12 weeks.

None of the "remedies" worked for me AT ALL. I had to go to my doctor for help.

Like the OP, I had to work full-time and there was no way out of it as I'm not independently wealthy.;) So, he gave me Phenergan suppositories and told me to use one per day. I cut them in half and used half. I found that 1/2 of th suppository was enough to take the edge of the nausea but didn't make me to sleepy (Phenergan has that effect). It got me through 5 months of "all day" sickness.

well, hope you feel better soon! I had very bad morning sickness for 9 months! Every single day, all day and night. And not one of any remedy worked for me, either did the meds the doctor gave me...I have to admit it was pretty bad! ..BUT I had a very easy and quick delivery! Now that was kool!

With my first ds I had terrible morning sickness. Then it went away and came back in my 7th month. PLEASE take care to stay on top of being hydrated as much as possible. I know how easy it is to not want to put anything in your stomach for the fear of throwing up.

I had ds way back in the old days. They didn't want to give you anything, just wanted you to trudge through it. I had a very nice nurse who told me to eat peanut butter and to chew peppermint/spearmint gum. It worked like a charm for me. I felt so much better in 2 days. Then after I was feeling better, to add banana's or other potassium rich foods to my diet. Evidently when you are not eating, throwing up you have a low potassium problem which in turn causes throwing up. Now, I am not a dr so not sure how true it is, but it was told to me by a nurse, and her advice did help me alot. By my 3rd month I had lost 12 lbs. I gained it back in months 4,5,6 and then lost 14more in my 7th month alone. I weighed 107 prepregnancy and delivered at 118 a 6lb 11 oz healthy little boy.

I hope that you are feeling well soon. That b vitamin thing is good to know!

Kelly
