Our last night at POP last month we didn't have a dining reservation until 10:30 so I put the sign in the door (we declined housekeeping for the trip prior to that.) A little after 8 housekeeping started knocking loudly on the door. I answered it and then she looked down at the ground where the door tag was. I think she took it off; we had hung the tag up if we took an afternoon rest in case they came to 'check' at that time and it hadn't fallen off.

Has anyone else had this experience? I don't get annoyed easily but this bothered me.

No, not assuming someone did something like you assume
It is frequently reported that Housekeeping begins knocking early on check out day.

A couple of years ago (main building gf) we were booked on an early flight and were supposed to take magical express at 5am or something. The night before we changed our flight and decided to take a cab to the airport around 11 or 12.

Housekeeping came knocking at 7 which was understandable. They had our departure noted on their info. I let them know we'd had a change of plans and they didn't return before we left. Other then that no. I wouldn't be happy with housekeeping knocking early if that weren't the case.

No, we decline housekeeping everywhere we stay. I have read where the new door tags have been falling off so I doubt if they took it off.

A couple of things.

We used our tag every day during our last 10 day stay. It didn't fall off once. Not saying that it never falls off, but it stayed in place for us.

Our housekeeper, on check out day, stood right outside of our door for 45 minutes. She didn't knock, so she didn't wake us up. But she just stood there.

It seems that there is certainly something missing with housekeeping training.

And something wrong with the housekeepers that they would just stand there. Or with their management to allow that.

The new door hangers fall off frequently. Especially if you let the door close on its own. The whoosh from the door blows it off the doorknob, so don't assume she took it off. We saw more of them on the ground in front of doors than hanging on knobs.

We had an early knock from housekeeping on our last stay at POFQ in January. I answered the door in my sleep clothes (shorts and shirtless) and just told her we were checking out at 11 for a 7pm flight home. Why she'd be there at 8am when we weren't scheduled to get the tragical express until 4pm... who knows. Maybe they figure if you've got a late flight that you're going early to the park?

I haven't had this happen to me because typically we fly out early in the morning so that we have plenty of time at home to unpack, do laundry, and get groceries since we are typically back to work the next day. I can say though, when we leave our room at 6:30 or 7 in the morning, we tend to see housekeeping out preparing to clean the rooms. I'm also assuming if the hotels are at capacity and the rooms are booked for later that day, they are inclined to move you out quickly.

Agreed. I am sure there were other rooms she could have been cleaning.
I would have thought so.

But there she stood. For 45 minutes.

Maybe our housekeeper was only assigned a couple of rooms. That would explain why she came to our room so early, every day. Well, everyday until we first went to the front desk, only to be told to call housekeeping. I guess the front desk doesn't have a way to get in touch with housekeeping.

We checked out of POP yesterday. Went across to AOA for breakfast and put the occupied sign on our door. When we returned, we noticed a lot of housekeeping activity around our building, even on our floor (lots of people must have checked out) but no one bothered us. We left our room for good a little after 10:30am.

We were at ASSp last weekend, and I saw many Room Occupied signs on the ground. I think it was because it was pretty windy.

We got a knock around 8-9 am of our checkout day (we didn't have the Room Occupied sign up). I told them we would leave at 11 am.They didn't bother us after that.

They should send her over to the resorts where they seem to have a housekeeping shortage! Seriously, Disney needs a better housekeeping plan. We've had stays where we didn't receive any housekeeping until after 3 PM.

It is odd they would stand around waiting, I wouldn’t like that either. I wonder if the reports of housekeepers waiting for guests to check-out is due to a VIP or “deep” clean requested by the next occupant. That housekeeper may have only been assigned a few rooms that day due to the time involved for the extra cleaning. It would be polite if the housekeeper waited down the hall, though.

It would not surprise me at all that the signs are blowing/falling off. I have even had Tragical Express envelopes fall/blow off my doors before.

This may be off topic, but I went to Disney for my first ever non DVC trip this past nov/dec, And I was looking forward to the cute little towel animals and stuffed Mickey displays and poses Ive heard mousekeeping does, since i haven’t had much interaction with them due to always staying DVC. Not once did Mousekeeping do anything cute in my room. During a two week stay. I know they don’t have to, and I wasn’t expecting it, but it would’ve been nice.

Ive read that there has been a BIG decline in the towel animals, something about it being a TIME thing, like it was hurting efficiency.. Which I am in the mind of, they know it was a thing guests loved, why not hire just a few more housekeeping CMs

I originally posted this last year, but feel the need to repost every once in a while to clarify some things.

My aunt was a housekeeper at WDW for 14 years and recently retired. The towel animals were always meant for guests to take home if they wanted. Therefore, the towels that the housekeepers used to make the animals were towels that were going to be taken out of "service" due to fraying, looking ragged etc. That's why they were not always left for guests because there had to be some that were going to be "retired". Not only did there need to be towels available to be made into animals, the housekeeper had to have the time to make them up. They were always meant to be something special, not expected. And as guests started complaining (and there were a TON) that they "are paying $$$ for the room" or "tipping $$$ and not getting towels animals every day", they have decided to stop the practice. Though there still are some housekeepers that enjoy doing it so much that they will still do it. But as a whole, they are not encouraged to any longer. So if you do get some, enjoy. But don't expect them.
