Morning EMH at HS, and effect on ability to get a boarding pass

We haven't been to Disney since before FP+ and magic bands were a thing (think, harkening back to the days of having a fast pass runner!), so I'm faced with a bit of a learning curve for our Summer July 2020 trip. I know that you need a Boarding Pass for Rise of the Resistance, and that they tend to go quickly, from what I"m understanding. I have a few questions about hitting HS on an AM EMH day...

If we show up for early entry, theoretically, is it easier to get a boarding pass for RotR? Do they open up the Boarding Passes at EMH opening, or regular park opening?

Also, how quickly are the boarding passes typically snapped up?

Lastly, just to make sure I'm understanding the process, just because you get a boarding pass doesn't necessarily GUARANTEE that your pass # will get called (e.g. in the event of crowds/negatively impacting wait times, ride issues, etc.)

Thanks for your help!

Currently, only PM EMH at DHS.

Boarding groups full up VERY fast and getting a boarding group does not guarantee you will be able to ride Rise of the Resistance.

They have changed the boarding pass rules but Im not sure how it effects EMH days. On non EMH days, while they may let crowds in at 615, they will not start allowing boarding pass reservations until official park opening at currently 7AM. The boarding passes will be gone within 5-10 minutes and there is no guarantee you will get on. Some days they get through parties 125, other days 75. Just depends on breakdown time.

DHS has been opening early, but not with EMH, just regular hours in the morning.

As others have said, all EMH at DHS have been changed to evening for the next few months. I’d expect that trend to continue for as long as boarding groups are in effect.

And it is crazy how much difference a few seconds can make on boarding parties. We didnt follow the cast advice and have the app open before we got into the park so it had to reset. We scanned in then opened and we were there. But the people behind us followed instructions. We got boarding party 23 while they got 127. And this was when you had to be there by 530 AM or you werent getting a party.

Thanks, I haven't checked the park calendar for upcoming months, only in June-ish to Early July to get an idea of what parks have EMH and when. As of this morning, Disney is showing AM EMH as HS, which prompted my question. But it looks like it's a moot point for now at least, as Boarding Passes aren't able to be booked before park opening. I didn't realize/didn't look to see that there weren't AM EMH at HS for the current months. No worries.

*shakes magic 8 ball*
It says “ask again later”.

We’ll know a lot more in a couple months.

I am curious what happens if March 4th rolls around, MMRR opens with a virtual queue system, but RotR is still so busy it demands one, too. I will be there mid May. Has HS studios gone from a 1/2 park to at least a 2 day RD park? In less than a year from SWGE opening?

If you like shows, yes. If you just want to do rides you should be able to do them all in a long day.

My personal opinion is that MMRR will open with a standby line, like MFSR. Although it will be popular, I don’t think it will draw anywhere close to the ROTR crowds that warrant a virtual queue. But it will be very interesting to see how it all plays out!

Let's hope Disney's marketing research gets close and they get a somewhat optimal system put in place.

I also wonder if MMRR will take pressure off SSD or add to it. TSL finally gave a lot families with smaller children a reason to make HS an essential park on their Disney vacation. I wonder if MMRR will split that crowd or if even more small children families will start showing up at HS that were still passing it up.

I don't know what their research will show, but I bet HS changes over the past year have stretched the average family's vacation by almost a whole day. That has to translate to an incredible amount of revenue going forward.

Hasn’t changed our trip length, just how we allocate days. We’re at the max we feel we can afford to take off work/school and pay. It just means 1 day for Epcot and 2 for HS.

None of it affects my trip at all. I don't go to Disney to ride one ride. I love Disney and thrill rides, I like Star Wars. On my DHS day I'm going as early as the buses will get me there (7 for a 9am opening) and I hope I'll get a BG. I'll still have a fabulous trip either way. Now, Tron, that will be a different story-LOL. This may be my last trip since I am now retired. Still won't ruin my trip if I don't get to ride RotR. I'll be a little sad, nothing a trip on the RnR won't fix.

I will likely spend an additional day or two at WDW over the next 2-3 years as a result, sure.
But beyond the rides, Hollywood Studios now logistically has the capacity for more guests which will make it feel way less crowded with the same number of guests, which ultimately will attract more guests from other parks. Until Epcot has its overhaul complete I do think you will mostly see people spend less time there and more at DHS. After that’s done I think you’ll see real meaningful attendance increases.

Thanks, much appreciated

Also know that for now RotR is not open to ride during EMH. Just keep an eye out for any park hour changes. Who knows what Dianey will do with HS hours over the next few months !
