Well, things were looking a bit dicey for this trip actually occurring, but now things are looking up a little. Let me explain...
DH is a college instructor, currently on sabbatical to take classes towards a PhD. This means that A) he is getting paid less this year, and B) we are paying grad school tuition. I am self-employed, and the economy has finally caught up with me, meaning that it has been very slow, and I have had little work.
So, a couple of weeks ago, DH and I talked, and this trip really looked like it was not going to happen.
I tried to look on the bright side: Maybe it would be better to visit after Carsland had been open a while. I can get my CE (the San Diego part of the trip) through some local meetings. Our DVC points would still need to be used this year, but we could go to Vero Beach later in the year when DH was back to his full salary. We warned the kids that DLR may not happen, but NYE at Vero could happen instead. The kids were OK with that.
Then, a couple of nights ago, DH came home from class with an idea. What if we scrapped the San Diego part, but kept the DLR part? We could easily cut our trip costs in half. I am working a bit more, and DH has a chance to teach an extra classthis summer. Now, mind you, this is the man who was not raised on Disney like I was. He didn't visit WDW until he was in his late 20's. He does not exhaustively plan our trips (that is my job!)
He is the one suggesting we try to go to DLR this summer.
I love my DH!
So, we have decided that we must decide by May what we will do. If we need to cancel VGC and book VB, we can do so without penalty. If we need to cancel our San Diego hotel, we can. If lots of money falls from the sky, and we can do everything we originally planned, I can book the conference at the cheaper rate.
So, I am still here, cautiously planning, but still planning. I refuse to change my tickers until/unless I have to.
