Okay, so my husband is a TOTAL radio geek. He's also one of those guys who goes chasing after storms for the National Weather Service.

Here's the question. Anyone have any idea if he can bring his potable gear onboard with him to keep an eye on the weather and if I know him, easdrop on the bridge traffic? He's fully liscensed and all that stuff.

I can just see him sending DCL postcards to any radio contacts he makes onboard.

Are there any other HAM Operators on the DISboard?

I don't think that'll be allowed based on the amount of radio interference one of those radios generates. The entire crew operates on hand-helds.

Interference? How?

See, just goes to show how little I know about the whole radio thing.

DH's unit is hand held also.

We are planning a Jan 2005 cruise. My dh is very active in amateur radio but did not bring anything along on our first dcl honeymoon cruise. I am not into the radio stuff either but can ask dh tonight what he thinks. He is also fully licensed etc and sends/receives various postcards from contests but only pays attention to weather during things like a potential blizzard.
