Does a home resort really make that much diff? Right now they are selling AKV and BLT and I saw the units on my tour and neither really spoke to me. Now, I LOVE BCV, BWV and WLV. I would only be able to get a contract for those via resale, right? I just don't see myself staying at either BLT or AKV that much.

You can purchase the sold out resorts through DVC also. They may have to put you on a waiting list, though. The incentives may not be available for those, however. You would have to check with them. We added on some BWV points and did not have a very long wait at all.

If you have your heart set on staying at a particular resort(s) then I would recommend definitely buying at one of them.

:)Yes, your home resort does matter. I would say "Buy Where You Want To Stay" -- it gives you the 11 mo. booking advantage! I am not sure but I think resale would be your only option at this point. I know that if you are already a member you can request to buy points at a different resort other than your own that may be sold out, but I think that is only for members. I may be wrong and I am sure someone else will know for sure.

We have purchased both from WDW and also on the resale market (TSS) and both transactions went very smoothly.

thanks for the quick replies!

From what I've read so far, it would seem that it is harder to get a reservation at both the BWV and the BCV, too, so I'm guessing an earlier window to book at either resort would be a good thing!

I believe that home resort is really important if you have a preference where you want to stay.

I only want to be at BLT and that is where I will end up owning all my points. Not that I think it will be impossible to get the resort at 7 months as I think, for the most part, except maybe December or MK view, getting rooms there by non resort owners will happen.

But, I want to know that I can stay there every trip and be able to book my whole stay 11 months out. I am a teacher so for the next 11 years until I retire, our trips to Disney will be primarily in the summer. By owning where we love, we will always be somewhere that makes us happy. We will still be able to try the other resorts if we want--and we are, we are staying AKV in August.

If you know that you LOVE BWV, BCV, and VWL, then that is where I would buy. While you can go directly through Disney, it is more economical to buy in through resale at those resorts. While it does take a little longer and you are limited to the contracts that are out there, but you can let the different resale brokers know what you want and what you are interested in, and they will keep an eye out for you.

Good luck on your decision!!

Yes, absolutely your home resort makes a huge difference in that you can book a stay at your home resort at 11 months versus 7 months with non-home resorts. During *most* times you will probably be able to get something at the 7 month window of a non-home resort, but if you want a particular view or if you are traveling during a time of year with a special draw (i.e., food and wine festival, etc.) you will want that 3 month advantage. And, like others have said, resale or waitlisting are going to be your only options in terms of the sold out resort. Given the economy and how it's a buyer's market, you will probably be better served going the resale route. Best of luck!! :goodvibes

Buying a resale contract for BCV, BWV or VWL may very likely save you $ over directly purchasing one of these resorts through Disney and if you would like to start out in DVC by purchasing less then minimum number of points required by Disney (iirc presently 160pts minimum) then you'd definitely have to purchase resale (btw your membership is not treated any differently if you purchase a smaller contract through resale). Once you're a member you can add-on more points when and if you'd like either at resort you initially bought into or at different resort(s) as well; presently add-on points may be purchased through Disney with no closing costs/fees at minimum of 25pts paying cash or 50pt minimum with their financing.

BCV, BWV & VWL are great resorts, can't go wrong with any. Best wishes deciding :goodvibes

Several years ago, we bought at BWV through Disney. They had points available and I did not have to waitlist. Getting into BWV is not nearly as hard as BCV because there is much more availability in terms of number of rooms. Owning at your home resort does not guarantee you will get that resort at your 11 month window either. It is highly likely you will, but at busy times or year - you never know...especially at resort as small as BCV.

Call a guide and find out your options.

Ok, so now I noticed that other than OKW, SSR, AKV, and BLT that all the other resorts have about 30 years left of their contract.

sigh.

Do I still try to buy into my one of my favs (BCV, BWV, WLV) and take the 20 year hit, or buy into the others that go on for the full 50, but that I don't really like?

Buy at a location that you will be happy with. 30 years of loving where you stay vs. 30 years of not loving where you stay PLUS another 20 years of not loving where you stay.

Last year, the offered OKW owners the chance to extend contracts. I would assume that at some point they will do the same for all the other resorts that expire in 2042.

If you know that BCV, BWV, and VWL will make you happy, go that route. I started out buying my 2nd choice resort, VWl, so that I could add on at BLT with less points. After only a few months, I realized that I really didn't want two home resorts. I only wanted BLT so I could book my whole trip at one place at 11 months, instead of having to book some nights at BLT and some at VWL and then hoping I could switch at 7 months.

I ended up putting up the contract for sale and will be re-buying the points back at BLT.

Go with what makes you happy and don't worry about what will happen in 30 years!!!

Good luck!!!
