As a follow up to my previous post, we are considering taking the $1600 savings and switching to a standard view room at the Poly. Can someone explain to us how far we will be from the monorail? It seems like the Poly is much more spread out and some people mentioned getting on at TTC? Are there two different monorail stops from Poly? I'm confused.

Also, how long can we expect the monorail ride to take (including waiting for it and then riding)? We were expecting a 10 minute walk to MK from Contemporary. If we switch to standard room at Poly, how long would it take to get from our hotel room to MK entrance?

Your proximity to the GCH, where the Poly monorail station is located, depends on which longhouse you are assigned. There is only ONE monorail station for the Poly. HOWEVER, if you are booked into one of the eastern most longhouses (like Tahiti), it may be easier just to take the footpath to the TTC station. From anywhere in the Poly, it's about 10-15 minutes to the MK.

The Poly is not as spread out as it appears on the map. It's like maybe 7 minutes from end to end. The GCH is where you catch the monorail at the Poly, and the GCH is pretty much centrally located in the resort, so you may have a maybe 2-3 minute walk??

The monorail at the GCH is the MK monorail, so it goes to the other monorail resorts and MK. Barring any delays, etc...it would take about 5-10 minutes to MK.

The monorail at TTC is the Epcot monorail, so some people prefer to take the 5 minute walk over there to go to Epcot, as opposed to taking the resort monorail and transferring over at the TTC.

Hope that clears things up! :goodvibes

Some longhouses are closer to certain things than others, but the resort isn't as spread out as it seems. MK is the 2nd stop on the monorail (stopping first at the GF) and doesn't take more than maybe 10 minutes, depending on how busy it is and how many people get on/off at the GF. When going to Epcot, it takes about 5 minutes to walk to the TTC to catch the Epcot monorail. We stayed in a GV room in Samoa, which we thought was very conveniently located to everything and was just steps from the GCH where the monorail is located.

The TTC has the EP monorail AND the MK monorail. In addition, the TTC has the ferry to the MK (a hidden gem, IMHO), so no monorail crush getting to and from MK. The furthest Poly building is only 7-10 minutes away from the TTC. You can go to the Great Ceremonial House for the monorail. Again, just me, but it's not as convenient as the TTC. Also, if you are going to EP you are better off taking the direct monorail from the TTC. Also, it is often easier to get a seat if you get on the MK monorail at the TTC. Similarly, it is often easier to find a space for your stroller--if you have one--getting on the MK monorail at the TTC. Not always, but often. And the big ferry from TTC can be a lovely, relaxing and cool trip.
