More Parking Insanity...

I've parked at the monorail resorts, epcot resorts and wilderness lodge for years, each time for everyday of my two weeks at wdw as it's so much quicker than using the buses. I have asked the guards numerous times and they always say the same, it's fine to park there and go to the parks.

Only when conventions or very busy days have they either told us no parking or 3 hour limit.

If it's such a problem just introduce high parking fees at resorts.

Technically you can. But Disney has made it hard to do so. The buses do not run from DTD to the parks anymore. You have to go to a resort, and then to a park. Plus the resort buses don't run from DTD to the resorts with any regularity until 9 or 10 am.

Not sure what this has to do with the parking issue :confused3 . . . I was stopping at the restaurant on my way home from work, which I used to do a couple times a week when the Concourse Steakhouse was open. I was simply giving an example of a time I was turned away even though I had a legitimate ADR, since many people assume that will always get you into a resort parking lot. Since they ask that you show up about 15 minutes before your ADR to check in, I would have been right on time IF I was allowed to park at the resort. I could have parked at MK parking and gone to the resort, and I might have made it before 5pm, maybe not. But it wasn't a big deal for me to call and cancel the ADR and just go home for dinner. My post didn't have anything to do with seating in the restaurant . . . .

And what if people start using the CR parking lots to avoid the parking fee at the TTC??? Or use BW or BC in order to avoid parking fees at either Epcot or DHS?? How is that okay???
I really do wish they would start charging for resort parking if you don't have a resort parking pass, for that resort. Sure would cut down on the abuse.

Sure you can...and Disney doesn't much care that you do. BUT...you aren't going to be there for any park openings. The buses from the resorts, to DTD, don't start running regularly until around 9:30ish. Yes, there are earlier buses but they just aren't nearly as frequent. And even then, if you get to DTD at 8:30am, so as to get to a park opening, you are going to be hard pressed to find buses running back to specific resorts. Why? There just isn't any need. And if you do finally get on a bus to say, CR, to get to MK??? It's going to take you about 90 mins total. And you won't be there for park opening.
Silly way to avoid spending $15 for parking fees. If you can't afford to park, you probably should be rethinking your budget.

I am just skimming a lot of these posts - cause....there's a lot of them.

I never said I didn't pay to park.

Again - I was staying at a Disney Resort so I am allowed to park at the parks for FREE....park of the perks.
So I wasn't trying to NOT paying for parking.
Resorts are a different animal. but either way you never have to pay to park at a resort.

oh well -

Would it be fair if auto clubs like AAA and other hotel rating agencies responded to guest comments in the form of pointing out parking problems in later editions of guide books and hotel listings?

In some cases the price of valet parking might be made to look like the norm.

They provide a parking lot for these activities. It is behind the Hess.

They must only use it at certain times of the year as overflow because I have been there many times and told the guard I was going to the ESPN club and he directed me right to the self-parking. :confused3 I've never tried to go during a busy holiday season though.

And yes, I was ACTUALLY going to the EPSN club or zone or whatever it's called. There are several things to do at the Boardwalk that would take more than three hours, too.

I am so confused why you wrote your original post. You know the policy. Just because one guard didn't enforce it doesnt mean another wouldn't. It doesnt matter what responses you get because you 'got away with it' despite policy. I just can't imagine what you hoped to gain by posting your experience. Take it in stride. Next time if you try it again, be upfront. Say "I'm going to eat at the resort and then go to the park for a few hours". If they turn you away you'll know the last time was due to misinformation. If not then at least you were upfront and the guard knew and can bend policy from time to time. Never hurts to ask, but no surprises or complaints when the answer is no.

I guess the reason for my post was of the responses I got a few months ago when I asked (what I thought was a ) harmless question on here.

I was jumped on and was told that if going to another resort with a car the gaurd would call in the ADR and then issue me a parking pass for 3 hours and that I was horrible for even thinking this.

So yes, when I got there I asked (maybe I did leave out some key info, but either way) and I was told by the gaurd (who never called to check on the ADR by the way) to park there as long as I liked.

Maybe I should just stick to responding to questions like "Where to meet Rapunzel."

Doesn't seem like I'm making a lot of friends on here.
So to sum it up - I was just posting my experience vs. what I was adamantly told on here.

non carborundum posterii

(don't let the posters grind you down)

Non carborundum posterii indeed!!! That may have to become my official mantra!!!
In any case...again....can you park in a resort lot and go off and do anything you want to do? Most likely. It all depends on who you're asking, and when.
Ask at BW during Food and Wine, and there's no way you're getting remotely close to the self parking lot. They actually put up barriers!!! Same thing with the MK resorts around July 4, as well as other resorts.
There is a simply reason that no one is running around asking if they can park at POR for the day without getting in trouble. There is no direct park access there, so very few people do this.
But, at the CR??? Huge issue. Especially when you add in the fact that if you drive to the MK, you have to park at the TTC and then boat or monorail over to the MK. It's much quicker to just park at the CR and walk over....under 10 mins.

It's really not worth arguing about. People will do what they want to do. And that's okay if Disney is letting it happen. But, it would be nice if those who are leaving their cars at these resorts, for the day in the park, would choose distant spots so as to leave the closer up spots for those who are actually paying for the right to park there. That would just be considerate. Not too much to ask I guess.

NOt really. Yes, it has Jellyrolls, but other than that, it is really no different. Yes, it has roaming entertainers, but other resorts have some form of entertainment as well...it's just inside the resort. Same thing with the boardwalk shops....other resorts have similar shops but they are located within the resort.
I have heard way too many people come here and complain that they spent all this time and effort to get to BW since it was billed as a mini-DTD, only to find sporadic entertainment.
But that being said, there is parking provided....behind the Hess Station. But most people don't want to walk that far.

.

well, beg to differ. not JUST Jelly rolls. also Big river brewery, espn club, altlantic city dance hall, and (although it si technically not the boardwalk, but a short walk) KARAOKEE!! at the swan.

so it IS a night life destination for us adults visiting without children. and you can plan to spend a whole evening there (with or without the sporadic jugglers, magicians, etc) without ADRS.

that being said, as long as there is a lot provided (the further lot) that is fine. I have stayed at both BWV and BCV, and did not like searching for spots at BWV.

disney should make sure they have enough parking for the guests they will attract with their advertised "nightime venue". esp since they have basically shut down pleasure island.

ps I would never park at either resort with the intention of going to the park from there. but if I am there for a legitimate reason (like spending WAY TOO MUCH!!! money:rotfl: at karaokee and jelly rolls.. $10 a pop. just to get in!) I expect them to have parking for me. and, yes, I realize it will be further away then parking for guests staying at that resort.

The Boardwalk is a great example of those distance spots. I am sure you know about their self parking lot next to the Valet lot and the one across the street by the Hess station, although that's also where the Boardwalk Cast Members also park their cars. Anway given that those lots are also available I agree that guests not staying there should park in them if they choose not to Valet. However if the Cast Members at the guard shack don't enforce those guests to park in those lots, that's why they will park in the main self parking lot across from the Convention Center/WDW Bus station which should only be for BWI/BWV guests.

Thats a good post!:thumbsup2 Having my home resort at BLT I completely agree with if your going to try to beat the system at least park on the fringe so not to take up prime spaces meant for guests of the resort.

Differ all you want, but....I own at BWV and have been staying there at least twice a year since '03, sometimes more often than that. Yes, people go to JR's for more than a few hours. But Atlantic Dance Club??? Seriously?? Very few people are heading in there. In fact, many complain about it and want it made into something better...maybe an Adventurer's Club type venue. And Big River??? Again, seriously?? That's just not the kind of place you see people sitting around at for hours. You may get folks sitting around ESPN, watching a game, but it's not going to all that many people.
People heading over to the Swan should be parking at the Swan. But yeah, they charge you to park there, so of course you are going to park at BW.

In all reality, while some seem to think that the Boardwalk is a mini-DTD, it truly isn't. If Disney intended that to be the case, they would make it easier to get to. I mean, in all reality....do you think that Disney intends it to be a mini-DTD just for those driving??? Or paying to use cabs??? It is difficult to get to and from BW...especially late at night.

The Boardwalk is a great example of those distance spots. Ahhh, but you didn't seem to feel that way when people were parking at the CR and walking over to MK. You were very upset about that. It should be the exact same thing. But, that's the issue, isn't it. Disney 'says' one thing, but CMs (Disney or contracted) says something else.

Gotcha. You were new and your question about rules of parking was an innocent one. In response you were told what the actual rules are and (I'm assuming) why-- bc people who stay at the resorts like to park at their resorts.
Here is an illustration- If I was conducting a class for driver's ed. I would tell the students to obey the speed limit. Those are the rules. The rules are in place for a reason. Just like you were told what the actual parking rules are by those here on disboards. Sure, in real life, I've been stopped for speeding and after some explaining on my part, the officer let me go with a "warning". (he chose not to enforce the rules). But I wouldn't go public and tell this class of new drivers that you CAN get away with speeding sometimes if it just so happens that the person employed to enforce the rules chooses, on certain occasions to let you "slide'.
Do you see what I'm trying to say? There are hundreds, maybe thousands of "new" [WDW] "drivers" who come on these forums to find out about the ins and outs of WDW. We wouldn't want them to think "sure, the rules are there but they're not always enforced so give it a try you may get lucky and have a great parking spot for the MK". Each person doing this thinks "what's ONE more car in the lot?" but multiply that by a couple hundred as word about this "secret" gets out and you've got people who paid to stay in the resort not being able to park in the resort... it happens..as evidenced by the personal accounts some posters have given here.

um um  don't speed through the resort parking lots because you might get a ticket :duck:
