The Global Lifeguard site has been reformatted so that it is much more difficult to find Peggy Fisher's excellent reports. I did come across this. I'm not sure of the date for this report but I think it is from December. However, I haven't seen it before so maybe it's actually newer than that. Anyway, here's the "news".

Beach restoration everywhere this week: Wabasso Public Beach and the access stairs are closed for the week while Disney is importing sand again this year for beach re-nourishment. Of the tons of sand brought in last year, about 20 percent remains. The project manager predicts they will finish the job on time, as scheduled by Friday PM.

Disney is doing their usual awesomely professional job with their signage leading guests to the temporary new beach access at Coralstone. Would that DOT and the county could make our road signs as clear and comprehensible!

An estimated 17,000 tons of sand are being used to shore up 2000 feet of dunes between Marbrisa and Bay Tree. You can see the big trucks working 7 AM to 5 PM, six days a week. They hope to be done in two weeks and must be gone before turtle season, March 1 to avoid affecting nesting. At a cost of $206,772, the project will extend the dunes 14 feet farther east and restore its natural sloop. The Sea Grape Beach public access will be closed as long as the project takes.

Beachwear suggestions: For visitors from colder climes and “natives” alike, bathing suits and shorts are fine; no cover-ups needed. Wherever your origin, always remember your 30 SPF sunscreen, even when it’s overcast. See article on Indian River page detailing Winter Season safety tips.

We were there last weekend and saw the equipment working south of the resort. Lots of sand being moved. The beach looked a lot better by the resort and the access ramp appears to be fixed much better than in the past.

We are making the drive to VB again today since our DS wants a newly released DVC pin. Will be interesting to see how the beach work progressed this past week.

Sounds like there was a typo in the date. It said 12/6 but maybe it's 2/6.

Thanks, Pam.

I always appreciate your updates on "Vero News."

It's been TOO long since we've been down there. We're finally heading back over Labor Day weekend... can't wait!

When we at VB last week, the access ramp down had been fixed (compared to November) but did not see any equipment or work going on at least at the DVC section - this was Jan 29/30/31

Thanks for the post PamOKW

Thanx for the update, Pam. When we were there last October, the Disney beach was obviously better maintained. You could actually tell where the property line was, just by walking the beach.

We'll be back in April!

We visited the resort today and Disney moved in LOTS of sand since the 1st of this month. The old berm had been eroded significantly. They placed sand to the top of the old berm and then sloped it at about 1:1 to the east. The beach improvements near the berm were only adjacent to Disney property. There is now so much sand under the boardwalk that the vendor can probably no longer use that area for storage. I was impressed at the work they did.

I also saw a new aluminum gate on the boardwalk going to the beach and several improvements to the campfire area.

thegoods, that is a huge change - thanks for the update

This also gives me another pointer as to where our VB dues need to go

thanks
