The Orlando Sentinel has an article about the Disney/Tiger Woods deal, including info that Nike may have curtailed the original deal. Their analysis is that the deal is still a smart move for Disney.

I started this thread earlier, but no one seemed interested (may have seen it posted by me and thought "NO! Please - No more!!) But since it was started again I'll re-post and hope for a better response.

There are two pieces at MousePlanet I thought might interest the group. They are together (one right below the other). There is also a link to the original article from the Orlando Sentinel. Both make interesting reading.

For both articles (Tiger says no thanks and Free tickets? and When will they pay you to go?) Click here

For those of you who defended this move by reason of ESPN and ABC consider the following:

Originally Disney wanted him to endorse just about everything they had under the sun, including the parks, and in particular the troubled California Adventure [DCA]

You see the way Ei$ner can't stay focused (if anyone needs a mission statement, he does!!!). The way his business plan is rather… pedestrian. And how he hasn't got a clue regarding Walt's philosophy. The plan was for Woods to endorse everything!!! Parks included!!! And as I recall, I think that nearly everyone on this board, both pro and con, were in agreement that it was just a plain stupid thing to do! Everyone except Ei$ner of course!!

What a guy!! :(

There are stockholders to please. It's the way we do things in the U.S.

Just because decisions are made for business reasons doesn't automatically make them good business decisions.

From what I read, it sounds like Tiger *can't* do what thedscoop recommends, even if he wanted to . Nike has (I'm sure) paid a very large amount of cash to Mr. Woods to have their name associated with his at every turn, and they're concerned that if he endorses Disney in the way suggested that Disney would overshadow the Nike brand.

Actually, Nike wouldn't mind Tiger doing Disney appearances at all. His contract with Nike requires him to wear The Swoosh on his clothes in all media. I'm sure the they wouldn't mind for Disney to pay for even more Nike ads.

They aren't, but what if Disney has or wanted in the future to have a contract with Say addidas. As in all footware for costumes is manufactured by addidas. Having the Swoosh visible in ads could be a bad thing for that kind of deal.
