My mother just bought into DVC (AK) and my wife and I are in the process of buying resale (SSR). Will DVC send me a package once we close? What are the add on specifics? can you add on 50pts. or so, say at Wilderness lodge? and if you can, can I use the 50pts. from WL and pts. from SSR to book at 11 months at WL? In other words, can I mix pts. and make ressies at 11 months out? I have lots of questions and, from what I've been reading here, everyone seems to be pretty helpful.

at 11 months you can only make reservations at the resort you own


at 7 months you can put together all your points and use them at any place that still has availablity.

right now the least amount of points you can add on is 25. with financing it is 50.

for the blt it is about to be 100 points on Jan 15.

still not sure about the other dvc resorts. some people are reporting it is for all the dvc resorts - so you must add on 100 points.

other are just saying it is only for AKV and BLt.

for a fact it is for BLT - that is what the postcards and emails have say.

You can only use home resort points at 11 months out. You can't mix resorts at 11 months out to make a reservation. You can only mix points at 7 months out.

you can add-on 25 pts or more if paying cash and 50 pts or more if financing. there are no closing costs for add-ons.

no, you can't mix pts. (that would seriously annoy the WL owners). you can bank/borrow to use up to 150 pts at WL every third year, but your SSR pts are still only good for booking SSR until you hit the 7 month window.

What do you mean by "package"? Disney will eventually send you the annual planner and your Member ID cards will come in about 8 or 9 weeks after you close but you won't get the same packet of legal paperwork, totebag, etc. that your mother got by buying directly from Disney.

ETA: On the subject of combining points, in the home resort booking window (from 11 months from check in until 7 months plus one day from check in) only home resort points can be used to book your stay (VWL points at VWL, SSR points at SSR, etc.) Owning points at additional resorts is irrelevant. At 7 months from check in, all points are interchangeable. You can book VWL with SSR points at 7 months or less from check in, subject to availability.

In fact, you don't even need to own the resort you want to book. You can have points for that resort transferred into your account from another member's account (who does own at that resort) and use those in the home resort booking window.
