More newie DVC questions

If you cook in your villa, what types of meals do you make? Do you eat all 3 meals in your villa or do you just mainly eat breakfast/lunch/dinner?

We are staying at SSR in a one bedroom, so I would like to make some meals while we are there. OUr stay at the AKV will be in a studio, so we won't have the access to the kitchen. DH wants us to get the dining plan for our stay at the AKV, so we are working on numebr crunching to see if it is worthwhile.

Any tips for meals? Or is there any good takeout from nearby the SSR or the AKV?

Where do you get your groceries from? Do you go to a store (if so which one) or do you use a grocery service? We will be driving from IL, so we will have our car with us if it necessary.

Breakfast is really the only meal we "cooked". We did make some light snacks during down-time or on nights the parks closed early.

We ordered groceries from WeGoShop.com, and it was the best!

We eat breakfast in the room and keep deli meats, cheeses, and bread in the room for light meals.

We shop mostly at Publix, but have also shopped at a Super Target.

We also made breakfast in our room, cereal, frozen waffles, oatmeal, scrambled eggs. Easy stuff. We also picked up deli stuff, bottled water, snack stuff at the Walmart Supercenter down the road in Kissimmee. We packed a sandwich type lunch most days, and some ice packs to keep them cool.

Saved some $$ and some time (it takes a long time for us to eat at WDW)

If you have the room in your car, you can pack some things from your pantry at home like ziplocs, syrup, coffee, tea, oatmeal and order the rest to be delivered, or pick it up at the store at SSR. DVC will also deliver groceries, but the selection is pretty limited, and seems to have a big markup

Most days we planned one sit down meal, and ate our packed meal for the other.

Some of it will also depend when you go, we were there in Oct and the weather was great, so we weren't dying to sit in the air-conditioning.

We stayed at an AKV studio and drove to the PUblix nearby and spent about $100 on water, breakfast food and lunch items like deli meats, canned soup, fruit and snacks. It was great, although it was just a studio kitchenette! We save so much money eating breakfast and lunch in our room and then we went out to dinner in the parks. We tend to get tired of park food after awhile and a nice simple sandwhich, a bag of chips and fruit tastes really yummy!

We ordered lots of food for our trip from gardengrocer.com, but only ate quick breakfasts in the room. We wanted to spend our time at the parks and at the pool!

We generally have breakfast in the room. If we are going during the busy season (have waited in line for burgers nearly 30 minutes and then had a hard time finding a place to sit)it is often better to return to the room around 1:00 for lunch and then relax by the pool or just cool off in the room. I do very simple lunches. Sandwiches or something left in the crock pot while we were in the park. Prepared meatball (Publix) with our favorite spag. sauce can work for spag. one day and meatball sandwiches the next. Things like that save quite a bit of money. It's also nice to return to the room somedays. It really depends on what works for your family.

We do not really cook...just breakfast but last year we were there 2 weeks in a one bedroom and we did do fast stuff like sanwiches, mac n cheese etc. We oredered all our groceries (and always do each trip) from www.gardengrocer.com we like the convenience of the delivery since we do not always have a car.

Same as the others... we make breakfast in the room. We also buy drinks (water, soda, beer), snacks, cold cuts and rolls and things like that.

We are not big fans of cooking on vacation to be honest as this is a chore we do at home that we like to get away from while on vacation. If I were squeezing in a trip and trying to keep the budget to a bare minimum I would probably buy meals at the grocer and cook meals at the villa, but in general the cooking is left to the chef's while at wdw.
