MORE MUMMY INFO PLEASE! Dueling Dragons, too!

We're getting ready for our IOA/US & WDW next week, but on our last trip to IOA/US, I completely chickened out of the Mummy, (also Jurassic Park and Dueling Dragons!) I'm promising myself that I will try them, but I'd just like any specifics or links anyone can provide on the actual ride.
Let me just add, I'm not a total chicken, but I hate that "dropping" feeling. I rode Tower of Terror last year, (NEVER AGAIN!), and I like RocknRoller Coaster (HATE the launch!), but the Mountains at WDW are all fine. But I hear so much about the drops and launch in the Mummy that I always back out.
Also, how bad are the drops on Dueling Dragons? It doesn't seem like they'd be bad due to the hanging seats...there used to be a ride at AstroWorld in Houston (XLR-8) with the same set up, and it was cheese, so I'm wondering if the sensation is the same or if it has that horrible "pin-you-to-your-seat/like-a-bug-on-a-windshield" launch of RocknRollerCoaster...?

I won't do looping roller coasters so I can't comment on Duelling dragons but the Mummy is great. It's VERY fast at times with several very sudden sharp turns but no big drops as such. There is one point when you drop backwards but that didn't affect my stomach at all! If you can cope with the drop on Splash Mountain, you'll do The Mummy from that point of view, no problem.

Jurassic Park is a VERY big drop - my DD LOVES splash mountan - probably her favourite ride - but the drop on JP really upset her!

Note though, there IS a launch like on Rock n Roller Coaster, so if you hated that, you might not like the Mummy

no big drops on the mummy, its just all fun. dueling dragons has a drop but its kindof a "slipping turn" so you dont get that big droppping feeling. jurassic park has a big straight down drop tho, but i have learned that if you go against nature... and look straight down at the bottom the whole time(dont shut your eyes), you dont get too bad. Screaming really loud helps too.

I am going to let my son (age 10) tell you about The Mummy and Dueling Dragons from his perspective. (These are two of his favorite rides ever!)

I love Dueling Dragons! You start out by walking through Merlin's castle where he tells you the story behind the ride. Then you emerge in a room where he says,"Choose your fate! Fire or Ice?" Then, you choose your dragon, and it is off! You began these see-it-to-believe it coasters by a twisting drop.Fire to left,Ice to right. Fire performs an immelman while Ice whips into a helix. After that it is a camelhill for Fire and zero g roll for Ice. Fire does another immelman while Ice does a cobra roll, an element that became popular in the nineties.Just before you catch your breath, the coasters do a near hit vertical loop. The dragons take 180 degree turns before preforming a corkscrew wrapping around one another. Both coasters are sent on a straightway and fire does another corkscrew.Then, Fire and Ice take a sharp turn before hitting the brakes. Note:this is inverted, meaning the trains have seats
below the track that allow riders feet to dangle, in case you didn't know.

The Mummy starts out as a dark ride, and ends as a coaster. Yes, it does have 3 LIM launches, but it doesn't have inversions and none of the 3 launches are as fast as the one on Rock N Roller Coaster. But this ride knows how to play with fire. So if you don't like flames up close to you, I would skip this ride. Also it is very dark.But if you can handle MK's Space Mountain, you'll handle this.As an added credit, it's a smooth ride.

Oh, I almost forgot, but Dueling Dragons is very smooth also.

Actually the Mummy only has 1 fast launch, the other 2 times it stops and starts at normal speed.

The Mummy doesn't have any drops. It has one part where you get shot backwards when you aren't really expecting it, but that's it. We loved the Mummy. It was my 8 & 10 y/o's favorite ride....we must have rode it a dozen times. Now...dueling dragons, ugh, I HATED this ride. My kids loved it but it totally freaked me out beyond belief! Never, ever again will I go on that ride. I went on Ice, never tried Fire after that but some people said Fire would have been a better one to go on for a first timer.

i always say if i could put dr doom in my back pocket i would take it home with me. but then, i love tower of terror !!!!


dueling dragons, ice, is one of my faves.....the ride is smooth, not jerky or clunky. you can watch it from the side as you walk up and check it out before you ride it. the great thing is once you have finished your ride, you do not have to exit to the bottom to repeat the other side. there is a walk way once you exit off the ride to cut thru to do the other side...fire/ red or blue/ice

mummy.........it is a must !
fast moving at parts with a story line. just like one of the previous posters stated, slow moving for the story in the beginning, then it turns into a roller coaster ride. it is inside the old kong building, it can't have that high of a drop. the ride is not outside but housed inside, looking at it from the outside standing in front you can visualize it is not that much on height, similiar to rock n roll coaster's height.

it is less of a drop than splash mountain is. be sure to duck when it drops and you will not get wet, maybe a few sprinkles, but not soaked like you do on splash mt as that ride travels around the bottom of the mountain.

i used to be a ride weenie on coasters and anything that dropped. my kids changed me from that ......they wanted to do those kewl rides and wouldn't go with out me. i went , was a little shakey at first but got hooked.

now i go solo and do all the rides by myself.

go ahead and try the rides at universal, you will like it.

To be honest with you, The Mummy does have a few drops. There is one right after the "fake" ending where you are in a room, the Mummy breaks the glass on the top left, and then there is fire on the ceiling. So immediately after this room, there is a fairly big drop (not that big) where they take your picture. Overall, it's really a great ride, one of my favorite rollercoasters. ;]

On Dueling Dragons, you don't really feel the "dropping-stomach-feeling" at all. If you don't like that feeling, I suggest you go on the Ice Dragon. I think that Fire has more drops than Ice. Ice is more of a 'twisty-turny-upside-down' ride. XD I personally like Fire better because I love the stomach-dropping sensation.

Can you describe rides that you do like, so I can compare our tastes? For example, are you a fan of Tower of Terror? Spiderman? Any info is appreciated...thanks!!!

Is Mummy any different than Mummy at US Hollywood? The one in Hollywood was such a let down that I can't imagine ever standing in line for that thing again. All of us who rode said "ok, this is where it must start getting good" when we got back to the start (and got off saying "that's it?").

Having never been on Hollywood's version I can only go by what most people I've heard and they've mostly said the Orlando version is much better than the Hollywood version.

The Orlando version is better than Hollywood. Why? Orlando is longer during the coaster part. For USH, you have to ride a few times to enjoy it. If the line is 30 minutes, it's a bummer having to wait so long, for such a short ride.

One quick note on Dueling Dragons, if you want any view at all make sure you get a front seat. The seat configuration makes it difficult to see anything if your seated in rows 2 and back.

Actually i think Jurassic Park has an 85-foot drop to Splash Mountains 52-foot. Both are great rides.

but i really loved the jurassic park water ride...i really did.....
