I am not nearly as experienced as most people are around here but here is my opinion.

I think that Travelocity or Expedia might have Disney rooms available. They are in a package type deal. I havent looked for room only rates.

But I would still have to pick going through Disney direct or AAA because Disney does come out with special rates that you can apply to your reservation. I have heard of people on here saving hundreds of dollars when a new deal comes out from Disney. If you pick one of the "wholesalers" I dont know if they honor any new deals. I think you get what you get.

thank you for your reply...

i will be there on 8/23 - is it likely that Disney would put out discounted rates during this time... i know summer is very busy there....

research your prices (packages & "a la carte") You may find that booking everything on your own seperately is lot cheaper. Alot of the time your pay for things in packages that you'll never need or use. travelocity and expedia do offer decent prices sometimes but you could probably do better calling hotel/air/car yourself.

Read these boards! Tons of info!!

Expedia does offer just the Disney hotels without the park passes. Their discounts are usually similar to the price you would pay with a code. If no codes are out for your time, chances are that Expedia doesn't have any nargains either.

The disadvantage to using the Expedia route is that they charge the full price to your credit card for Expedia Special Rates (and all the good deals are going to be Expedia Special Rates). They will also charge you a penalty if you have to cancel or change your ressie. If you find a better rate later, you cannot get them to lower theirs without paying the penalty fee to cancel and then rebook you ressie.

CheapTicket.com and Travelocity.com also feature Disney Properties. Their booking and cancellation policies are similar to Expedia's.

My best advise would be to steer clear of packages unless they are similar to the FairyTale Package offered last summer. Know what the rack rate is for the time of year you are going. Book your room seperately but with a code thru Disney if possible. Disney will allow you to modify your ressie without penalty and full payment on room-only ressies is not due until checkin.

For historical data on discount codes, when they were first avaliable and for what dates and to whom, go to

www.mousesavers.com

The site also has lots of ticket info, it is a must read.

Another must read is the tour book, "The Unofficial Guide to WDW" which also has lots of information on rooms both on and off site.
